Chapter 6
At 12:00, I decided I should get ready. I hopped in the shower and was out in about 10 minutes. My hair hung in wet strands down my back as I dried my off my body. I had a lot of hair, but it was fairly fine so it dried quickly. I braided it into three braids while it was still damp. Then blow dried my braids resulting in beach waves. I slipped on my blue knee length dress and the only nice pair of shoes I owned. The story behind these shoes was my favorite.
"Happy Birthday Ellie!" My older sister Alex yelled while handing me a box. I was 15 at the time, and my sister was 19. I opened the box and reveled beautiful silver high heels.
"Alex! These are beautiful!" I cried out in shock. "How did you afford these?" I questioned concerned. My parents were still poor at the time, however they weren't the evil creatures they are now.
"I saved up, plus I have a friend that's a soc and she helped me out." She whispered her secret and made me laugh. "Happy birthday Ella." She said this time more serious. I hugged her.
"I love you Alexandra."
"And I love you more lil sis." She smiled at me. That was the last day I ever saw my sister.
After I slipped on my shoes I looked in the mirror at the finished product. I wished in this moment I owned makeup or jewelry. I was so plain and ordinary and that terrified me. Soda always dated such beautiful girls, I was not one of those girls.
At exactly 2:00, the doorbell rang, causing me to laugh at his perfect timing. I opened the door to reveal Sodapop in a blue and red flannel and jeans. His usual attire, however he had his flannel tucked in. His black converse were cleaner than usual and he wore a stunning smile.
"Wow." He said interrupting my admiration of his natural beauty. "You look hot." I laughed at his substitute word for beautiful and pretty, which is what he normally called me.
"I can say the same about you." I returned the compliment and he grinned crookedly at me.
"I'm serious though. You look like a princess."
"Well then I guess it's appropriate you call me Cinderella tonight." I said grinning.
He chuckled and grabbed my hand, leading me to his truck.
"Where are we going?" I asked curiously.
"Place downtown, I think you'll like it."
We arrived to a small loud building and parked in the back.
"Soda, What is this?" I asked slightly concerned.
"This did the dance club Steve and I come to. Trust me, you'll love it."
"Soda wait." I grabbed his arm and stopped him. "I told you this isn't the kind of dancing I do."
"Not yet, it's not." He stopped and must have seen the concern on my face because his smile fell and his eyes softened. "Do you trust me?" He asked.
"What?"
"Do you trust me?" He repeated.
I nodded and his smile slowly formed again. "Then come inside." He held my hand as we walked in. The place was bright and loud and chaotic. I didn't know what to do but Soda seemed right at home. He led me to the middle of the dance floor and I stood shaking in my silver heels.
"Dance."
"I can't." I protested nervously. I had never moved to the beat of music like this before. My body physically didn't know how to.
Soda pulled me close to him, his arms holding securely around my waist. My arms wrapped carelessly around his neck and he started moving us to the beat. I grinned as we started dancing recklessly. I had never danced this way, so fearlessly and free. There was something oddly beautiful about it.
I got the hang of it and was soon noticing the way the girls around me moved. I turned around so my back was against his front and swayed and grinded to the the beat of the music. I turned a full circle and then another half so I was facing him. His arms never leaving my waist. He pulled me close every time distance crept between our bodies.
"I like this side of you." He yelled over the music.
"What side is that?" I yelled back.
He leaned close until his mouth was next to my ear. He set his left hand on the other side of my face. "Fearless." He whispered just loud enough I could hear him. I clinched my jaw. I wanted so badly to kiss him in this moment. But I just continued to dance.
We danced until midnight rolled around. "It's midnight," I said as we sat at the bar. "Don't you think it's time for Cinderella to go home, Prince Charming?" I asked slightly seductively. The shots of whiskey must have given me a new sense of confidence.
Soda stood up and grabbed my hand and walked me outside. "So what did you think?" He asked referring to the dancing.
"I actually can't think of a time I had so much fun." I answered honestly while carrying my heels in my hands. We drove back home casually talking about the club.
"You want to go for a walk?" He asked as soon as we got out of the car.
"Sure." I responded. We walked down the darkened street in silence. Yet, it wasn't awkward. Just peaceful.
"What do you think of me?" I asked breaking the peace.
"What do you mean?"
"What do you think of me?" I repeated.
"I think your interesting. You're different. But in a good way." He stuck his hands in his jean pockets and kept walking. I thought that was all but right when I was about to speak he continued. "I think you're beautiful. And I think your kind. And I think you make people a better person just by being around them." He stopped and looked at me. Neither of us were smiling, it was all seriousness. He tucked my hair behind my ear and laid his hand softly on the side of my face. The space between us slowly decreased.
"Elle!" I heard my father's venomous voice yell. "What the hell are you doing!" He continued yelling and walked quickly to where Soda and I stood. Soda moved me behind him and we backed up, however when we saw the blade in my father's hand, we took off.
