Chapter One: Before Class
"Y/N!!" your best friend Caroline calls, running across the field at an inhumanly fast speed. You turn from your car and raise your eyebrows.
"What's up? You ask, expecting news about Caroline and Klaus' marriage.
Instead, she says: "I can't find the cake! Bonnie's birthday is going to be a wreck without a cake!" You snort, and grab your books from the trunk.
"Use a summoning spell." Caroline rolled her eyes at this, but still felt the need to explain WHY you were wrong.
"You know very well that the only witch in a 100 mile radius is Bonnie. That would ruin the surprise."
You sigh, and start walking towards Biology. The college campus is huge, so you have to start walking there half an hour early to be on time.
Caroline catches up to you, exasperated. "Are you going to help?"
You take a deep breathe to avoid hurting Caroline's gentle feelings while still getting your point across. "Caroline. I have class. Now."
You sigh and remember that she doesn't remember the struggles of college kids. While still stuck at age 17, she was actually 27, which was almost seven years older than you. She was a drama major, and now teaches music and theatre classes at the Mystic Falls Elementary School. She didn't earn much money off of this living, but it wasn't really necessary, as her husband Klaus had more than enough for a couple lifetimes. Which was useful, considering vampires live forever.
You kept walking as she left, for another 15 minutes. You felt the air change behind you. Warmer.
"Where's the cake?" You asked in a bored tone.
Damon came up beside you, accepting defeat. Most of his other victims he snuck up next to gave some element of surprise in on way or another.
He grinned. "Bonnie doesn't strike me as one to admire strawberry. I took it to save her the trouble."
You turned towards him. "Were you going to get her another?" he gave another sheepish grin and said "Nah I'll let Caroline figure that one out."
You cut him off as he was about to change the subject by demanding he give it back. Damon rolled his eyes. "What're your plans for tonight?" he asked, with pure curiosity in his voice.
You responded with sarcasm and irritation in your voice.
"I'm going to a party. I am going to have so much fun. I'm going to ignore the rest of the world while eating my delicious strawberry cake."
He gave another grin at the last part and released another condescending grin. "As you wish. See you there"
And you marched into your building, barely escaping a kiss on the hand from Damon.
You sighed, remembering how many boyfriends you had lost due to you and Damon's close friendship.
Seems like Damon almost wanted more than just a "friendship".
