Mending A Broken Heart
It was 5 in the morning. Raven stood in front of her mirror and stared at her red nose and tear-stained face.
She noticed she had bags under her eyes, but at least they weren't too noticeable. She was tired and she felt like she would pass out soon, but she didn't really care. She was heart broken. He had told her that he loved her. He lied. She knew no one would ever love her. She wasn't worth loving. She couldn't love back.
She tried to hold back a sob as the memories of the dragon, whom she had thought to be Malchior, flooded her mind. She hated knowing that no one loved her. She didn't having a nurturing and caring father that would always be there for her like most young girls did. And her mother? Well, Arella was dead. She was killed by her father. He had killed everyone she loved. She remembered that day like it was yesterday. She despised her father for it. All he could do now is lie beneath this gem and mentally torture her. He threatened her none stop. His constant rambling even gave her headaches sometimes.
If she could, she wouldn't even hesitate to take that dumb gem off of her forehead and smash it to peaces.
Raven let out a shaky breath and walked over towards her bed. She picked up her necklace that her mother gave to her before she was killed. She stared at it. A tear rolled off of her cheek and onto the necklace. She plopped down onto her bed as more tears ran down her pale face. She couldn't take anymore heartbreak. This was all too much for her to handle.
Damian sat up on his bed. He felt strange emotions coming from the empath. Mostly sadness. He decided to go to her room and check on her. He knocked on her door gently.
"Raven, it's me," he said quietly. He didn't want to wake the others.
Raven quickly wiped her face and pulled her hood up. She used her powers to slide the door open.
Damian walked in and rubbed his tired eyes. "Hey, are you ok?" he asked and sat down next to her.
"Yeah, I'm fine" she mumbled.
"Are you sure? It seems as if your upset," Damian said.
"N-Nothing's wrong, Damian" she stammered.
Damian sighed. "Is this about Malchior?" he asked.
Raven flinched at hearing his name.
"No," she said quietly.
Damian placed a hand on her shoulder. "Raven, if you want to talk about it I'm here for you," Damian said gently.
Raven shook her head. "I don't want to talk about it," Raven said.
"Raven, it's clearly bothering you," Damian continued to press on.
Tears started to roll down raven cheeks. Just hearing his name brought her to tears. Raven sat there quietly. Damian didn't notice she was crying until he heard her sniffling. Damian hesitantly pulled her into a hug.
"Don't worry, Raven. It's ok. He's gone now. He can't hurt you." he spoke uncharacteristically soft.
"T-That's the p-problem Damian. He already hurt me." she started sobbing and pressed her head into his chest.
Damian wiped away her tears with his thumb. "What do you mean?" he asked.
"He didn't just hurt me physically, Damian. He hurt me emotionally too." Raven admitted. Damian sighed and held her tightly.
"H-He said that he loved me. He lied!" she continued to sob loudly. She really didn't want Damian to see her like this. She was an emotional wreck.
"It will be ok, Raven. Just breathe." he said while rubbing circles on her back.
"N-No it won't. I thought he meant it Damian. I actually thought he loved me. I was an idiot. No one would ever love me." Raven said between sobs.
"That's not true. We all love you, Raven" he said softly.
"I love you," he whispered.
Raven heard him and her head snapped up almost immediately.
"W-What?" she asked. Her eyes were filled with disbelief.
"I said I love you, Raven" he repeated.
"No, you don't." Raven shook her head dismissively.
"Yes, I do." Damian said.
"No one could ever love me, Damian. My own father doesn't even love me. You think I would believe that you do?" she asked.
Her voice was full of doubt.
"You should," he said bringing his hands to her face.
Raven stared into his green eyes. She didn't understand why he would ever have interest in someone like her.
"Why?" was all she could say.
"Because you're you. You're a great person, Raven, whether you believe it or not. I've never expressed my emotions to anyone, and believe me, it's going to take a bit of getting used to, but I really do love you Raven. I know for a fact that I do." he said smiling.
Raven couldn't do anything but stare. She tried to say something but all she could do was gape at his words.
"You still don't believe me?"he challenged.
Raven shook her head.
A smirk appeared on his face and leaned towards her and planted a kiss on her lips. Raven was shocked and was hesitant to kiss him back at first, but she eventually gave in. He saw Raven's wide eyes as he pulled away.
"Why did you-" she started, but he cut her off.
"I told you. It's because I love you, witch girl." Damian stated.
Raven smiled to herself. Someone does love her after all. "Thank you, Damian."
