Teen Titans #45 + #46 Discussion Damian Is Gone and Superboy Abandons Him?
Ok So I'm going to briefly just talk about each of these next 2 issues because quite frankly they have both been out for a bit and I just want to hurry up and catch up already.
Teen Titans #45:
Ok let's start with Teen Titans #45. So, this issue picks up dealing with the fallout of the previous annual. Every word mentioning Damian no longer being Robin feels like salt in an open wound. On top of that the remaining Teen Titans members are off cleaning up the mess that the previous run had left. Red Arrow and Kid Flash are following clues as to where Damian could be and the other criminals. Which leads them to go after Gizmo. Also, Crush is living with Roundhouse and the two of them are all good buddies I guess now. The way Roundhouse was son easily forgiven for everything he did was so rushed. I kind of hope that he is secretly been the reason Damian went rogue using some sort of mind control on him. Damian's drastic change in this run came so out of nowhere. It was lame. Also Red Hood shows up. I guess he is looking for Damian too. But it doesn't really go anywhere. Plus, it does kind of contradict what is happening in detective comics 1030. In that issue Batman asked everyone if they knew Damian went rogue and red hood said he didn't know. So, either he was lying in Detective Comics or they're choosing to ignore parts of this book. Or this issue takes place after that issue. I don't know anymore. The point is Red hood shows up says a few lines and leaves. Then the team eventually tracks down Gizmo but are rescued by a pissed off Superboy asking where Damian is. I'll admit I was looking forward to hearing Jon call out the teen titans. But, we never got that conversation because at the start of the next issue the whole team is already working together with Superboy to apprehend the remaining criminals. What a waste. Outside of that not much else happened in this issue. So onto the next one.
Teen Titans #46:
This issue pissed me off. They teased Superboy getting ready to confront the teen titans about Damian, but we never got to see that. In fact, Jon is only in this issue for the first couple of pages and then he leaves. At one-point Damian leaves a letter for him to find. Jon reads it and then he burns it. We never get to see what it says and we probably never will much like that box Damian had that Jason was after earlier in this run. After burning the letter Jon just flies away and abandons the teen titans and his friend.
As if this book couldn't get any worse. They even crap all over the friendship of the super sons. The fact that Jon doesn't even reassure the teen titans that everything will be ok and hold onto some form of hope. Instead he just leaves. What a bunch of bullshit. Afterwards the teen titans I guess agree to be a team again for the 50th time this run despite all the problems they kept going through with everyone being awful to each other throughout this run. Seriously though how is this even a team at this point? They're an awful team. After the stuff with superboy leaving... We see Crush moving in with Roundhouse. Then Emiko and Wallace go out on a would-be Date. But, before he can officially ask her out the villain Joystick shows up and takes over their minds leading in to the final issue of this run where he will pit the teen titans against each other.
Ok That was a lot. But, between both these issues I am ready to be finally rid of this run. It has been a disaster. Damian, Wallace, and Emiko all deserve so much better than this book. The fact that it destroyed Damian's character like this makes me sick. There were no good payoffs in this book. Especially when it came to Damian's character. They tore down everything about him and left him for shit. Emiko was written to be an angst lord without any of the charm or charisma she had while being written by Percy. Wallace... what was the point of him in this run? He did pretty much nothing except flirt with Emiko at the end there. That's it. I just don't understand how he really contributed to anything. If he was the moral compass of everything then why didn't we get to see more of that? We saw almost none of it. Every other character had major arcs surrounding them except for him. So, I'm bummed about that. At least the Percy run gave him stuff to do. Oh well... That's it for this update. I'm just glad this run is finally ending in the next issue. I'm ready to call it quits with this book and move on from it. I think that will be for the benefit of all these characters. Now with that said I'm going to wrap this up. I feel like I have said enough for now. I'll be back next week to talk about the final issue. Thank you all for reading this and I hope that you all have a wonderful day.
