Bats in Black

Mercury Faith watched Damian drive away with his brothers. He was so nice, and kind of cute. The way he'd helped her all the day and followed her around like a cute puppy regardless of her scars, had made her want to smile all day. If only she'd been able to show those bullies just how strong ' Scar Face ' was.
" And now to get to work," Mercury sighed.
She walked out the school gates, knowing full well that her parents were mist likely lecturing some poor soul at the observatory. She walked to her family's new house and let herself in. With a smile she pointed a finger at the fireplace, instantly, fire blazed to life in the previously cold fireplace. She hummed happily as she laid out her work uniform on the bed. Walking in to the bathroom she snapped the fingers, causing the shower to turn on at the right heat for her preference as she brushed her long brown hair.
Soon she was clean and changed in to her work uniform, and was now standing in front of her wardrobe's mirror.
Looking at her reflection she grinned in her dark blue body suit that faded in to black for the pants. Her silver belt with her symbol on it flashed in the dying afternoon light. Her long black medieval cloak with its hood hid most of her face from others. She smirked as she took out her contact lense, causing her brown eye to be revealed as being actually a bright glowing golden yellow colour. She put on her silver domino mask and admired her reflection.
" Damn I look good," She whistled.
After clambering out the window in to the now dark street of Gotham she breathed in the night air. Grinning broadly she floated in to the air.
" Let's go test out this country's villains," She chuckled deeply.

Batman waited casually on the roof of an apartment building, looking out over Gotham and scanning for crime on his scanners. It had been an uneventful start to the night, and Robin and Red Hood had gone to help Nightwing patrol his area of Gotham. Red Robin had stayed at home tonight.
Out of the corner of his eye he saw a flash of silver and turned to see a small figure flying through the air in the direction of Gotham Cemetery. Batman didn't want anyone he didn't know flying through his city, maybe they were a meta like Flash dealt with.
He grappled across buildings, following the fast flying figure like a shadow. He tailed them to a cemetery, where he saw them standing in the shadows. Two men were exchanging money in the middle of the graves.
" Yo man, you got the stuff?" The first asked.
The other nodded and handed over a small package of white powder. Drugs. Batman watched in interest as he saw the flying figure step in to the light.
" You gentlemen lost something?" Asked the figure in a sickly sweet voice.
Batman recoiled, it was a woman, and she was sporting a hero outfit, her symbol however, was not one he recognised and looked like a wave.
" It's not the bat!" One of the man cackled in relief as the girl stood in front of them, arms crossed.
" No, I'm not Batman, that's pretty clear, however, I'm worse," The girl snarled.
Instantly the two men were thrown backward without her even touching them and she levitated off the ground, her black cloak billowing around her. She was gazing at them with a sarcastic smile.
With a click of her fingers the earth cracked around them and the two men were consumed up to their shoulders in the dirt. They struggled and spat curses at her but she just smirked and walked away.
" Let's just hope the police bring shovels," She cackled as she faded in to the shadows again.
Batman growled, this was his city! Slowly he followed her until he saw her turn in to a dark alleyway and stop still. Turning to face him and pinpointing his exact hidden location she spoke.
" Nice night for a walk, ain't it batsy?" She laughed.
Batman felt his blood boil in anger and keeping his voice deep and intimidating he spoke.
" Who are you? What are you? And what are you doing here?" Batman growled.
The girl smirked and studied her nails.
" I'm a very special girl who just happens to be holding back on you, I'm here doing your job while you stalk strangers, and as for my name, I go by Ortus Tempestas," The girl said with a shrug.
Batman growled.
" Your name is Latin for Rising Storm, but that doesn't explain your powers. Start talking," He snapped, shooting her the infamous batglare.
" I'm impressed you know Latin, honey, but last I heard, you were the world's best detective, so why don't you go and figure out how I am for yourself," Ortus Tempestas said sweetly.
Batman was disliking her more by the minute and took a threatening step closer.
" Fine, if you won't answer anything but your name, at last tell me one thing, hero or villain?" Batman asked deeply.
" Considering I just busted a drug swap for you, I'd say it was pretty obvious that I'm a hero," She answered seriously, before saluting sarcastically and leaping in to the air, zooming away from him with one last laugh.
Batman glared after her and started to make his way back to the batmobile, determined that when he returned home, he'd find out anything he could about a hero called Ortus Tempestas.
