Chapter Twenty One.

Ivan and Laurel stepped into a large room, it was full of crates and boxes that were piled higher than their heads. Ivan walked ahead of Laurel, keeping her behind him as they walked around the boxes.
"You shouldn't have came here," He said.
"This war is partly my fault."
"I don't care, you shouldn't be here. You should have gotten out of this business years ago."
"Like you?" She shot back.
He didn't have a chance to reply, a second before he could formulate a response a bullet ricocheted between them getting lodged in a box. He reacted first, shoving her with him behind a box.
"Where did it come from?" She asked.
"I don't know."
Another shot went into the wall behind her and she ducked to the side, pressing herself into the stack of wooden crates. Ivan moved closer to her.
"I'll draw them out," He said.
"What?"
"I'll run for it and you head back the way we came."
"No, I'm not leaving you."
"You're too damn stubborn this is why we're divorced!" He yelled.
She was going to say something back when another bullet implanted itself in the wood just above her head. She winced this time. Ivan shoved her back into a corner, pushing her down until she was kneeling on the floor.
"Stay here and stay down."
"Let me help."
He shook his head, taking the time to reload his gun. A bullet ricocheted near them and had Laurel not shoved him to the ground would have hit him for sure.
"You need me," She said.
"Fine, keep your head down and stay close."
She took a second to reload her gun as well before giving him a nod that she was ready. He turned and took a deep breath before slipping around a corner, Laurel right behind him.
Wolf didn't realize right away that he'd lost Demon, but by the time he did was too far into the building to turn back. He saw a door and stepped outside into a small back yard, there was a picnic table to his left and no sign of any people.
The sun was beating down and he could hear the sirens from the fire department approaching. They'd be here soon and he had to be sure that his men were gone, if Zeke was alive they couldn't leave him but if he was not their only choice would be to strip his jacket from the body and make a run for it.
He turned to go in and flinched when he heard a single gunshot echoing through the air, he turned and saw a man laying dead a few inches away. He glanced up and saw Raphael and Sky on top of the neighboring building, Raphael gave him a single wave.
He turned and moved back into the building, he couldn't hear anymore gun shots and he wasn't sure if that was because his men had cleaned out the building or because he was the only one left alive. There was only one way to find out, he had to find his men and get out of there.
Raphael slid another shell into his sniper rifle and took aim at the still empty yard, if anything moved he'd see it. Sky shifted his own rifle and then took aim as well.
"Nice shot," Sky said.
"It was an easy pick."
Sky glanced at him and hesitated a minute, he wanted to ask about Raphael and Jenny but wasn't sure how to bring it up.
"You going to stare at me all day?" Raphael asked.
"Can I ask you something?"
"Doesn't mean I'll answer."
"Are you.....what's going on between you and my sister?"
"Remind me again which one's your sister?" Raphael said.
Sky ground his teeth, he was tempted to shoot the other man and blame it on the Aces but knew he probably wouldn't get a his gun aimed before Raphael would drop him.
"Jenny," He said.
"Oh Jennifer, she's a nice girl."
"She is a nice girl, and she doesn't need to get tangled up with some random drifter."
"Look, she's not tangled up. I like talking to her, she's a nice person and that's it. I'll be gone soon and she won't even remember I existed."
"So, you're not having sex with her?" Sky asked.
"Hardly, she's not my type."
"Why? What's wrong with her?" Sky asked, instantly defensive again.
"Okay, I'm confused. Do you want me to screw her or not?" Raphael asked, setting his gun aside to look at Sky.
"No, absolutely not."
"Okay then."
Raphael lifted his gun while shaking his head and Sky copied his action. He felt a little more at ease knowing that Raphael wasn't sleeping with Jenny. Just the thought of the mans hands on her made him livid. It was his job to protect her and that is exactly what he would do until he couldn't anymore.
Demon stood in the dark room, his chest tight and his breath coming in shallow gasps. Lacy let out a small sob of defeat and dropped the gun she'd just fired to the floor. She sank to her knees and Demon turned, behind him on the floor lay King.
Her aim had been deadly and it was a good thing, in his right hand was a gun that Demon had no doubt was pointed at his head while he was watching Lacy.
"Lacy...."He turned back to her.
"Not you...I could stand anyone but....I won't lose you."
"You saved my life."
She looked up at him with tears in her eyes, another tear rolling down her cheek. She picked up the gun she'd just used and handed it to him. He took it, tucking it in the back of his pants and then picking up his own.
"I told him, I told him over and over that he wouldn't like the result if I had to choose."
He knelt down and tipped her chin up with his right hand, brushing a tear with his thumb. He wasn't sure what happened to make her change his mind but he knew he owed her his life and he couldn't repay her by taking hers.
"Do it Demon, if you're going to kill me do it now." She said.
"No, I can't."
"I deserve it, I lied to you."
"You saved my life, I can repay you by doing the same."
He stood and helped her to her feet, she looked behind him at where King lay dead. Then she took a deep breath and turned to him.
"You better get out of here," She said.
"Come with me, come back to the club."
"You know I can't do that," She said.
"Lacy....."
"Demon, you know I'm right. I can't, not now."
He was about to protest again when Wolf burst through the door, seeing Lacy so close to Demon raised the alarm. He pulled out his gun pointing it directly at Lacy.
"Get back!" Wolf shouted.
"No, it's okay. She saved my life!" Demon cried, stepping between Wolf and Lacy.
"She betrayed us all."
"She killed King, he would have shot me if it hadn't been for her."
Wolf glanced between Demon who looked ready to fight and Lacy who stood behind him, she was crying but didn't protest or beg for her life.
"Fine," Wolf put his gun away.
"What's going on?" Demon asked.
"I hear sirens, we have to get out of here."
"Okay."
Wolf turned and exited the room, Demon followed but Lacy did not. Demon stopped at the doorway and turned back to her.
"Lacy, come with me. Don't you want to come home?"
"Yes, I do."
"Then come on, we'll sort the rest out later."
She bit her lip and hesitated a minute, maybe two then rushed after him. The trio hurried back to where the club had originally entered and where Zeke still lay. He was bleeding profousely from a head wound, his body burned and he was wheezing when he breathed.
"We have to move him, we have no choice." Wolf ordered.
Together Demon and Wolf were able to support Zekes large body and drag him to the street. Two of the lower ranking members had brought a large panel van for this reason and they carefully loaded Zeke into the back. One of the member rushing to ride Zekes bike.
Sky and Raphael joined the crew on the street as they each swung onto their bikes and the sirens grew closer.
"Anyone see Laurel or Ivan?" Wolf asked.
"No," the rest replied in unison.
Wolf glanced back at their bikes parked side by side then the building. Reading his thoughts Demon called out to him.
"We can't risk it, we have to go!"
Wolf gave a grim now and started his bike, the rest of the men followed suit and the large crew roared onto the street behind the van, their destination the clubhouse all of them hoping that Laurel, Ivan and Zeke would make it.
