Chapter Twenty Four.

Ty sat by Zekes bed for seven straight hours, though his brother never stirred he continued to talk to him. He talked of when they were younger, about their parents, Becky, Ty and Zeke being kids and anything else he could think of.

"Remember when we were six and Becky fell from the tree in our yard? I don't know if she was crying more or if I was because I knew Dad would be angry we were in the tree to begin with."

"You were always a softie," Zeke said.

"Zeke...." Ty slid closer to the bed.

"Where am I?" Zeke asked, his voice scratchy and weak.

"You're home, you're safe."

Zeke turned his head to look at Ty, wincing at the slight movement as he tried to re-adjust himself in the massive bed.

"Try not to move," Ty said.

"Are you hurt? Are you okay?" Zeke asked.

"I'm fine, I'm okay."

"Good," Zeke said with a heavy sigh.

"Just stay awake, I'm going to go get Becky. Stay awake."

"No...Ty...wait," Zeke tried to stop him but his brother was already gone.

When Ty returned Becky wasn't far behind him, she was hurrying along until she saw Zeke and she froze in the doorway. Before she could stop herself she let out a small sob.

"Shit, do I look that bad?" He asked.

She shook her head and moved into the room, taking up the seat Ty had just abandoned. Ty sat down on the bed next to Zeke who already looked like he was exhausted from being up the short while.

"How bad is it?" He asked.

"They don't know," Ty said.

"Did we lose any men?"

"We can't find Laurel or Ivan, but that's it. Lacy came back but Wolf is keeping an eye on her."

"Are you in pain?" Becky asked.

"No."

"I can try and find you something," She offered.

"No, thank you."

The truth was he was in agony, every single breath was painful but admitting it would only scare Ty more. Believing that his older brother wasn't in pain seemed to calm him down but one glance at Becky and Zeke knew that she could tell her was lying.

"The nurse that looked at you said if you pull through the next day or so you'll be fine," Ty said.

"I'll try my best," Zeke promised.

"You'll be fine, I just know it." Ty said.

Becky forced herself to nod in agreement with Ty but she was doubtful.

Wolf and Morgan lay together in his bed, Iris had taken to get ice cream when with Jenny and Sky. After overhearing they were going for the frozen treat the small girl had invited herself and the pair had happily agreed to take her pending her mothers permission, with some reluctance Morgan agreed.

Wolf had headed straight to his room and stripped off his jeans and shirt collapsed into bed. Morgan joined him nestling in closely to his side.

"I'm afraid I'm a bit tired my love, wont' be much of a performance." He mumbled.

"I just want to lay with you, that's all I need."

He wrapped her in his arms, resting his head on top of hers.

"What are you going to do about Lacy?" Morgan asked softly.

"I can't make that decision alone, it will be up the to men."

"I know it's not my place but.....I think her intentions whatever they were.....were honest."

"The men might not feel the same way, she'll get a chance to speak but in the end we have to do what's best for the club."

"I think Demon is in love with her, even if he doesn't know it yet."

"I think that Demon has always been in love with her, God only knows why he waited this long to do something about it."

"Sometimes it takes time," She said with a teasing tone.

"Yeah well sometimes you women make it purposely difficult," He teased back.

"I was not making it purposely difficult, I was afraid I had a lot of baggage."

"I know," He said gently.

"Do you think Zeke will make it?"

"I don't know, if anyone can it's him."

Demon watched as Lacy walked out of the bathroom that was connected to his bedroom, wrapped only in a thin white towel. It was a sight that he was terrified to admit he wanted to grow used too.

"Come here," He said, motioning her towards the bed where he lay.

She complied moving over to take up the space she'd vacated beside him. He covered her with the blanket and then stripped off her towel tossing it aside.

"I'm soaked the sheets will get wet, my hair is soaked," She said.

"I don't care."

"I will when I look like a poodle from sleeping on wet hair."

He laughed but pulled her closer, having no intention of letting her go for only the sake of her hair. Deep inside he knew that her fate was still in the balance, Wolf might still order her to be killed and he was powerless to stop it.

"Do you want to know why I did it?" She asked softly.

"No, it doesn't mater now."

"I want to tell you, I want you to know I didn't do it because I'm selfish or stupid or ungrateful....I..."

He leaned down and kissed her, effectively cutting off her sentence. She didn't have much choice but to kiss him back. He didn't stop kissing her until she had given up on even trying to speak, when he at last pulled away he spoke.

"I don't need to know, not right now. You'll get a turn to explain it to the club and I'll hear it then."

"I don't want it to be the last thing you ever hear me say," She said.

"It won't."

"Demon..."

"Don't argue with me."

"But that's what I'm good at," She teased.

He laughed but didn't argue with her, since day one she'd always been the only one who wasn't afraid to push his buttons.

"Did we lose any men?" She asked, sounding afraid of the answer.

"Not yet, but Ivan and Laurel are missing."

"I didn't think it'd come to this."

"I know."

She fell silent and so did he, content just to hold her in his arms and draw comfort knowing that she was there and alive.

The soft beeping sound brought Laurel out of her deep sleep, she opened her eyes and squinted against the bright white lights. It took her a moment to focus on the ugly white ceiling tile, shabby blue curtain and scratch yellow blanket, the antiseptic smell gave it away, a hospital.

She remembered the fight and the warehouse, remembered being trapped with Ivan. Ivan, she bolted upright in the bed letting out an involuntary cry of pain. Her back and under her ribs was nearly unbearable as she sat up. Glancing down she saw the I.V. in her arm and the tubes running to sticky's on her chest.

She pushed the call button twice for a nurse but when none came instantly grew anxious. She looked away and tore the I.V. from her arm, then removed every sticky until her heart monitor was flatl-lining. It took all her strength the crawl from the bed and make it to the door, bracing a hand on the wall she stumbled towards the nurses desk.

She glanced around the hospital and saw it was mostly abandoned and clearly late at night, she wondered how long she'd been unconscious. She saw one nurse sitting at the desk and she all but threw herself against the desk, her legs finally giving out.

"Please......I....need to know if a man was brought in with me," She said, trying to stay conscious as the pain in her back and side grew worse.

"Oh my!" The nurse rocketed from her seat.

"Was a man brought in?" Laurel begged nearly falling to the floor.

"Code Red, I repeat code red!" The nurse yelled into the phone.

Laurel sagged against the desk, too tired and in too much pain to voice the question a third time. Tears stung her eyes as she willed her legs to continue to hold her weight and her breathing became labored.

"Ma'am, you shouldn't be up." The nurse said rounding the desk.

"Please....a man....was with me."

The nurse grabbed a wheel chair and eased Laurel into, she didn't fight it but sank gratefully into the seat. Her vision was blurred and the pain was unbearable, she glanced down and saw her robe was soaked with red liquid. Her hearing was coming and going and everything sounded far away.

"She tore open the stitches," The nurse was saying.

"Call the doctor," another said.

"Please.....Ivan....is he here?" Laurel asked, gripping onto consciousness.

"You're friend was here when you came in, but the police came and got him while you were in surgery. He wasn't hurt," The first nurse said, kneeling so she was at eye level with Laurel.

"He......wasn't hurt?"

"No, he was okay."

Laurel relaxed, fighting the sleep that had been pressing on her since she climbed from the bed. He was okay, he may be in jail and for a long time but he was alive and not hurt.

"Call the doctor now!" The first nurse cried as she stood.

The last thing Laurel was aware of was being pushed rapidly down a hallway.
