Getting Back on Track

Jessica called her agent Adam and tells him she's ready to go back to acting.
"Hey Jessica! How are you?" he said.
"I'm doing okay. Listen, I'm ready to get back into acting. But I don't want to do any movies right now. I was thinking of doing theater."
"No problem Jessica. Actually I know a few shows coming up on Broadway, I'll start making calls!"
"Thanks so much Adam."
She hangs up the phone after a few more minutes of conversation. She lets out a sigh, and for the first time she feels happy, she feels the excitement of acting again.

*2 weeks later*
Jessica walks into the Ethel Barrymore Theater. She got the role of Blanche Dubois in the play A Streetcar Named Desire. Opening night was 3 weeks away and rehearsals were underway. At first she wasn't sure about taking on this role but decided to anyway. Blanche Dubois will be her most intense role she has ever done. It reminded her of her role as Frances Farmer when she had done the movie Frances. Jessica was determined to give this role all she had. She goes backstage and is met by the director, Joe Porter.
"Hello Ms. Lange welcome to the show!"
"Thank you Mr. Porter."
"Please, call me Joe."
"Okay, Joe." Jessica laughs.
"Everyone is meeting on stage. We are gonna introduce ourselves, get to know each other and have a quick read through." Joe said.
"Great." Said Jessica.
Jessica turns toward the stage; she's feeling a bit nervous. This will be the first time that she will actually socialize with others. It had been a while since Jessica had to any of her friends back home. Sam made sure to alienate every one she was once close to. She took a deep breath and walked towards the tables that were on stage. The cast was sitting around mingling before getting started.
Everyone turned as she approached. Feeling a bit embarrassed, she hadn't realized she was late. She smiles at everyone and they smiled at her in return. She sat at the only available seat next a young girl with reddish blonde hair.
The girl quickly introduced herself, "Hi, I'm Sarah. Sarah Paulson and I'll be playing Stella, your sister." she said half laughing and extending her hand.
Jessica smiled and shook Sarah's hand. "I'm Jessica, Jessica Lange. Nice to meet you."
Everyone started to introduce themselves and go around in a circle. When introductions were done, they got their scripts out and did a very quick run through and Joe went over what time rehearsals will be. Everyone got the schedule. Rehearsals were everyday until opening night. They said their goodbyes and slowly everyone started to leave.
Jessica was collecting her things when she felt someone standing next to her.
"Hey Jessica, would you like to me and my girlfriend for drinks?" said Sarah.
Jessica was a little taken aback, she had no problem that Sarah had a girlfriend, but she hadn't been out at night since coming to New York. Well, longer because Sam was so controlling. Jessica pushed Sam out of her mind. She hated thinking about him but couldn't help it.
"Sure." she said.
"Great! Don't worry we won't be out too long."
They both walked off stage and soon they were out of the theater. There was a car in front.
"Would you like to ride with us?" asked Sarah. "We can bring you back to pick up your car if you like."
"That'll be great, but I didn't bring my car. My apartment isn't too far from here. I walked here today." said Jessica
"We'll take you home after." said Sarah
Sarah got into the passenger seat and Jessica got into the back seat.
Sarah leaned over and kissed the driver. A girl with blonde hair.
"Hi honey, how was your day?" she asked the blonde hair girl.
"It was great!" said the blonde girl. "How was your day?"
"It's was a good day! We met everyone in the cast and crew. And we got our rehearsal schedule." Sarah said while turning around. "Sorry Jessica! Jessica this is my girlfriend, Lily Rabe. Lily this is Jessica Lange, she will be playing Blanche."
"Hi Jessica! Nice to meet you Jessica." She turned to shake Jessica's hand.
"Nice to meet you Lily." Jessica said, shaking Lilly's hand.
Two hours later Jessica was back at her apartment. She had a nice time with Sarah and Lily, she had three glasses of wine. It felt nice to be out and not having to think about being home on time. But she did feel awkward, she didn't talk too much and she still felt a weight that she couldn't shake off. She really liked hanging with Sarah and her girlfriend Lily and she would like to do that again; Jessica hoped she didn't come off as stuck up to Sarah. She didn't want to push her away.
Jessica changed into pajamas and went to bed.
Things were in full swing; rehearsals, fittings for costumes, getting the stage and props done for opening night.
They were finally rehearsing some of the most intense scenes in the play.
"Thank goodness they saved these scenes for last." Jessica thought to herself.
The scene was of the final confrontation between Blanche and her brother in law Stanley.
Jessica and the actor who played Stanley got into place. They began the scene and the next thing that happens is that everyone stops what they are doing. All the back stage crew, the other actors stopped what they were doing and watched mesmerized by Jessica's performance. Some were in tears, others were too consumed by her performance no one breathed.
After they finished the scene Jessica turned took a breath and wiped her face of tears that were rolling down. She noticed everyone staring at her. She thought to herself, "Oh gosh they hated it!"  Then everyone stood up and clapped for her. Jessica's eyes were wide in shock for their reaction. Her heart gave a small leap.
Everyone came up to her and gave her comments like, "Wow Jessica that chilling." Or "That was amazing."
That night Jessica felt like this is where she needed to be, this is what she should be doing. Acting out that scene, she had took all of her rage and sadness and put it into her character Blanche. This was her release. She laid her head on her pillow; she was ready for opening night. She was excited for it!
