Chapter 15

Ajit's party was in full swing. It was being held at one of New York City's most exclusive nightclubs. When Sheila and Rohit arrived, the place was already crowded.

"I didn't know Ajit had so many friends." Sheila said, as she and Rohit pushed past some people.

"I don't think they're all his friends." Rohit said, eyeing some blondes he's never seen before. "I bet he invited a bunch of pretty girls just because he wanted to look at them all night."

"Classic Ajit." Sheila commented.

They got drinks before walking around a little more. They talked with several of their friends. Sheila was even in the mood to dance even though Rohit wouldn't cooperate. He glanced around the club, looking for Radhika but he hadn't spotted her yet.

"Hey! Rohit! Sheila! Good to see you!" Ajit greeted Sheila and Rohit.

"Hey man long time no see. I can't believe you're back in New York!" Rohit said, hugging his friend.

"Yeah Cali just wasn't doing it for me. I can't give all this up." Ajit said, pointing to the wild party going on around them.

"There are parties everywhere, Ajit." Sheila said.

"Yeah but there's no place like New York." Ajit replied with a smile. "Rohit, I just saw Radhika. Oh man, she looks just as hot as ever! Don't worry, I'm not making a move or anything."

"Feel free to make a move." Rohit replied.

"What do you mean?" Ajit asked.

"We're not together anymore." Rohit said.

"What? What happened?" Ajit said, shocked.

"She cheated on me." Rohit said.

"What the hell?" Ajit exclaimed. "But you're you! She can't do better than you."

Rohit smiled. "I never said that jerk was better than me."

"You should meet his wife." Sheila interjected.

"What? You got married? You didn't invite me? Do I mean nothing to you?" Ajit exclaimed dramatically.

"It happened so fast. You were all the way in California." Rohit explained.

"Don't give me those excuses. Where is she?" Ajit said.

"She's at home with my step-mother." Rohit said.

"Hold up. You came to a party without your wife? A party where your ex-girlfriend is present, looking like she looks...and you leave your wife at home?" Ajit knew what he was talking about.

Rohit didn't know what to say.

"Incoming." Sheila whispered just as a very drunk Radhika appeared.

"Ajit! Come dance!" Radhika slurred. She was dressed in a very tight and very short red dress with way too high heels.

She moved towards Ajit but lost her balance along the way. Rohit reached out to steady her, and she wrapped her arms around his neck.

"Wow, you....you are very handsome." She said to Rohit.

"Radhika," Sheila interrupted. "I think you need to sit down."

"No. No I'm fine." Radhika shrugged Sheila off and turned back to Rohit. "Who is this handsome man? You look familiar. Did we hook up?"

Rohit sighed, holding her tighter so she'd stay standing up and not topple over.

"Yes. We did." He said, bemused.

"I knew it!" squealed Radhika. "Wow, how did I ever let you go?"

"Well you did." Rohit said almost angrily.

"Here, drink some water." Sheila handed Radhika a glass of water. Radhika gulped the water down like her life depended on it. Rohit lowered her onto a chair.

"Ajit, let's dance. It's your party." Radhika said, looking at Ajit.

"No can do, sweetheart. You're in no shape to dance." Ajit said. "Rohit, I can take over. I know this is weird."

"It's okay man. It's your party. I'll probably just take her home." Rohit said.

"No really. Sheila and I can handle that." Ajit said.

"Radhika is staying at my place right now." Rohit admitted.

"Whoa whoa whoa. Your ex-girlfriend is staying at your place with you and your wife?" Ajit said incredulously. "What the hell is your life?"

"Exactly what I said." Sheila added.

"Rohit..." Radhika said, nearly falling out of her chair. She seemed to finally remember who Rohit was. Rohit moved closer to her to balance her.

"I think I'm going to take her home. She's too drunk." Rohit said.

"Are you sure?" Ajit said.

"Yeah, go and enjoy your party." Rohit replied.

"We'll catch up soon?" Ajit said.

"Of course!" Rohit stood up and said his goodbyes to Ajit and Sheila before turning back to Radhika who was practically slumped over in the chair.

"Okay come on, we're going home." Rohit said, lifting Radhika up off the chair. "Come on, try to walk."

Rohit slowly led Radhika through the crowd.

"Rohit, I wanna go home." Radhika slurred.

"I know. I'm taking you home right now." Rohit replied.

He led her to his car and sat her down in the passenger seat.

"Rohit," Radhika grabbed his arm as he closed the door. "Thank you. You're always taking care of me."

Rohit paused. Radhika let go of his arm and he closed the door, walking to the driver's side. The car ride was silent. Radhika slept peacefully until they got home.

"Radhika," Rohit whispered. "Wake up." He touched her arm.

Radhika groggily woke up. "I can't...I'm so comfy."

"I'll help you get to bed." Rohit said, putting his arm around Radhika to help her stand up.

"Bed sounds good." Radhika said.

She stood up and tried to keep her balance, clutching onto Rohit. They made it into his condo. Radhika sat down on the couch and flung her shoes off.

"I'm sleeping here." She announced.

"No you aren't." Rohit countered.

"Rohit, I can't. Gita...I'm so drunk. She can't see me like this." Radhika looked like she was on the verge of tears.

"Alright. I'll get you a blanket." Rohit said, walking into his bedroom.

Rohit silently entered his room, careful not wake Sanjana. He looked over at the bed to find it empty. Where was Sanjana?

"Sanjana?" Rohit called out.

No answer.

He went back out to the couch, where Radhika was.

"Come on," Rohit said reaching out to help her get up. "You can sleep in my room."

"How sweet," Radhika drunkenly smiled.

Rohit laid Radhika down on his bed and pulled the covers over her. She started fidgeting.

"What are you doing?" Rohit said, holding back a laugh.

"Trying to get this dress off." Radhika replied, still struggling.

Rohit let out a chuckle. He took one of his biggest, most comfortable t-shirts out of one of his drawers and walked over to Radhika. He sat on the bed opposite Radhika and motioned for her to lean forward. She leaned forward onto Rohit's chest. He unzipped her dressed and peeled it off her shoulders replacing it with the t-shirt. He moved back, letting Radhika pull her dress off and pull the shirt on underneath the covers.

"You're always taking care of me." she whispered to Rohit, smiling.

"You should get some rest." Rohit said.

Radhika laid back down and snuggled into the pillow. Rohit stood up and moved away from the bed. He slipped off his suit jacket and untucked his button down shirt. He turned to the door and found Sanjana standing there looking furious.

"Sanjana, where were you?" Rohit asked.

Sanjana looked at him and walked away.

"Sanjana, wait." Rohit followed her. "What's the matter?"

Sanjana stopped. She turned around but said nothing.

"I'm sorry, I gave Radhika our room. She's really drunk and she didn't want Gita to see her like that. I wasn't thinking. I saw you weren't there and I just tho--" Rohit stopped short.

He paused and looked at Sanjana's furious expression.

"Sanjana, nothing happened. I don't know how long you were standing there, but I was just helping her get to bed. She was so drunk, she couldn't stand straight. And I wasn't going to get into bed with her. I hope you weren't thinking that I would." Rohit said quickly.

He was going to sleep on the couch. He didn't want to admit to Sanjana that he didn't think to wonder where she was or where she'd sleep after he gave their bed to Radhika.

The truth was Sanjana had seen everything. She saw Rohit lay Radhika down in bed and help her take off her dress. She saw them share a moment. She saw him caring about a woman who had broken his heart. She saw everything. She couldn't explain why she was furious. She didn't love Rohit. She was his wife essentially by name only. But she was angry. She was angry at the thought of Rohit caring about Radhika.

"Where are we going to sleep?" Sanjana asked Rohit, masking her anger. She didn't want to talk about anything that did or did not happen with Radhika. She just wanted to sleep beside Rohit tonight. She wanted to be near him so he'd stay away from Radhika.

"I didn't really think this through." Rohit said. "Let's go to a hotel, a nice one. We'll be all alone together."

Sanjana furrowed her brows. Their first time staying in a hotel had been such a bad experience. On their wedding night, Sanjana went into a panic attack because Rohit kissed her.

"Don't worry Sanjana, I won't kiss you again like last time...unless you want me to." Rohit smirked.

Sanjana felt herself blush. They were both thinking about the same night.

"I'm sorry." Rohit said, catching her off guard. "I'm sorry about giving our room away and for making you go to a hotel with me." His face revealed that he wasn't so sorry about the last part.

They grabbed some essentials and quietly left the house. Rohit felt exhilarated like they were stealing away in the middle of the night to go off somewhere quiet and secluded together. He called a nearby hotel and inquired whether there were any rooms available. He reserved a suite and rushed Sanjana to his car.

"It's like a second honeymoon." Rohit said as they pulled up to the hotel, immediately regretting his words.

Sanjana looked at him sadly.

"Well, hopefully it won't be like our first one." He tried to cover.

It didn't help.

Rohit and Sanjana checked in and went straight up to their suite. Rohit opened the door and marveled at the size of the room. They were pretty much only going to sleep in the room for a few hours but he still wanted to treat Sanjana to a nice, fancy suite.

"I'm ready to pass out." Rohit announced. "But first, I need to take a long, hot shower. Make yourself comfortable." Rohit said before heading into the bathroom.

Sanjana started to change into something more comfortable as soon as she heard the shower turn on. She ran her fingers over the clothes covering her body...so covered. She thought about how Radhika dressed. Did Rohit prefer that? Was he attracted to that? Sanjana couldn't show off more of her body even if she wanted to. She had scars, deep scars that covered her midriff, from when Arjun had tortured her.

Sanjana sat down on the bed, thinking back to their so-called honeymoon night. She hadn't known Rohit at all that night. Now, she was sure she wouldn't mind if he kissed her. She wouldn't mind getting closer to him, letting him wrap his arms around her, and....Sanjana's thoughts trailed off as Rohit emerged from the bathroom. He had changed his clothes and his hair was still damp from the shower. He didn't have a shirt on, and Sanjana couldn't stop staring. She felt her face flush but she still didn't look away.

"I don't think I packed a t-shirt." Rohit looked annoyed. He turned to Sanjana with a grin on his face. "I guess I'm just going to have to sleep without one. You might have to cuddle with me to keep me warm."

Sanjana blushed. It's like he'd read her mind. She, of course, wouldn't mind if she needed to sleep close to him tonight.

Rohit pulled back the covers and got into bed. He looked at Sanjana, waiting for her to join him. Once, she laid down, he turn off the lights and then hesitated. He watched Sanjana's silhouette in the dark. She began to sit up when she noticed he hadn't laid down yet. She reached over him, which surprised him, and turned the light on.

"What's wrong?" She asked.

Rohit was surprised by the question. "N-nothing." He blurted. "I just..." He paused.

Sanjana waited for him to finish speaking.

"I just want to get close to you...but I don't want to scare you." Rohit admitted.

Sanjana smiled. She reached over and turn off the light. Her arm brushed against Rohit's chest. Sanjana paused, leaning closer into Rohit. She felt his heartbeat quicken. She was sure hers was beating just as fast. He leaned forward and kissed her on the lips. Sanjana let the kiss deepen. Rohit was unsure what to do next. He pulled away briefly and looked at Sanjana for a moment before connecting his lips to hers again this time more hungrily. He wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her body closer to his. He laid her down and hovered over her for a moment before kissing her again. His lips moved down her neck. Rohit heard a small gasp but he could tell Sanjana was enjoying his affection. His gently sucked on her neck before moving down to her collarbone. He kissed her again. He was losing control. His body wanted to do more, but he wasn't sure Sanjana wanted more.

"Ro-Rohit," Sanjana said, sounding breathless.

Rohit immediately paused. He pulled away from Sanjana but made no move to turn on the light.

"Too much?" He asked already knowing that answer.

Sanjana sat up and hugged Rohit. Rohit was taken aback by her gesture. He hesitated for a moment before wrapping his arms around her, returning her hug. Once he released her, she settled back down into bed and waited for him to lie down beside her.

Rohit's mind was racing. What just happened? Why had Sanjana suddenly let him get so close to her? He liked it, loved it in fact but he was confused. He was sure it had something to do with Radhika. Having Radhika around seemed to make Sanjana feel threatened like she was afraid Rohit would develop feelings for Radhika again. He turned to Sanjana, moving closer to her until his body was up against hers. He wrapped an arm over her waist. He felt her adjust her body to get more comfortable, but she didn't move away from him or increase the distance between them.

The next morning, Rohit felt like he needed to talk about what happened last night, but he didn't want to ruin a good thing. He desperately wanted to convince Sanjana that she doesn't have anything to worry about with Radhika.

"Sanjana," Rohit said.

Sanjana stopped packing her duffle bag and looked at Rohit.

"About last night..." Rohit trailed off. "I'm glad we got closer...but all of sudden..I just don't want you to feel like you have to do anything with me. If you're worried about Radhika having any sort of affect on me, you have absolutely nothing to worry about. I'm all yours." Rohit said with a grin.

Sanjana was glad Rohit told her all of this. She did feel threatened by Radhika's entrance into their lives but she honestly wanted to get closer to her husband and open up to him more. That more time she spent with Rohit, the more she realized what a good person he was.

"And I'm yours." Sanjana said.

Rohit smiled. He never expects her to say anything, but when she does, it makes him feel like he's breaking down the barriers she's built up. He rushed towards her. Sanjana looked at him. He pulled her close and kissed her. She blushed, looking down.

"Oh come on Sanjana, one kiss made you blush...We definitely did more than that last night and you weren't blushing then." Rohit teased.

Sanjana turned away from him and resumed packing.

Back at him, everything was a mess.

"Where were you two?" Gita yelled when Rohit and Sanjana returned.

"Radhika didn't sleep in our room last night. You two have been missing. What's going on here?" Gita said.

Radhika emerged from Rohit's room. She looked like she'd been up for a while. She was still wearing Rohit's clothes but she'd washed all the makeup off her face and was holding a cup of coffee.

"Mom...I...we..."Rohit tried to explain. His eyes met Radhika's. He knew she didn't want Gita to know she'd gotten so drunk last night.

"Radhika wasn't feeling so I brought her home from the party." Rohit began.

"She's wearing your clothes...she was sleeping in your room...What's going on here, Rohit?" Gita inquired.

"She wasn't feeling well so I thought it'd be better for you if she stayed in my room, so she wouldn't disturb you. Sanjana and I spent the night at a hotel." Rohit said.

"What? Why go to a hotel? There's plenty of room here. You could have just stayed in your room, especially when Radhika was sick. You're a doctor, Rohit. She probably needed you." Gita chastised.

The whole room fell silent. Radhika looked shocked. She looked at Rohit, who looked furious. Sanjana watched Radhika sadly. Gita just suggested that Rohit should have spent the night in his room alone with Radhika.

Rohit stomped away, passing Radhika and walking into his room. He slammed the door closed. He just wanted to be left alone. He couldn't believe what he just heard. It seems like the whole world wanted him to be with Radhika. Circumstances had pushed them together at the party last night. Now, Gita was doing that same thing.

Sanjana wasn't sure whether she should follow Rohit or give him space. She thought what Gita had said was offensive too but she didn't expect Rohit to take it so hard.

"I think I've overstayed my welcome." said Radhika.

"What? No. Where will you go?" Gita said.

"I'll stay with other friends. I can't depend on Rohit forever." Radhika said.

"Radhika, you've been through so much. I don't want you going off all alone." Gita said.

"It's okay. I'll be okay. I'm going to go pack." Radhika said, walking into the room she shared with Gita.

Sanjana walked to hers and Rohit's room and slowly opened the door. Rohit was sitting on the bed, looking like he was deep in thought. Sanjana closed the door behind her and sat down on the bed beside Rohit.

"I'm so tired of this. I just want to be with you...but there's always Radhika." Rohit said.

"She's leaving." Sanjana said.

Rohit paused for a moment. He wasn't sure how he felt. He wanted Radhika gone, but he worried about her. What if her boyfriend found her and abused her again? Where would she go? He stood up and went to find Radhika.

"Radhika," Rohit said. "You're leaving?"

"Rohit, I don't want to cause any trouble. You've been so sweet. I know you're a married man now, and I feel like any minute now I'm going to ruin your marriage. Please just let me go." Radhika pleaded.

"Call me if anything is wrong. Anything at all. I mean it Radhika." Rohit said.

She knew what he meant. If her boyfriend ever found her, Rohit should be the first person she calls.

"I promise." Radhika said. She hugged Rohit briefly. He hesitated and briefly returned her hug before exiting the room.

Gita kept trying to convince him to get Radhika to stay but Rohit didn't say anything. Radhika would leave today. Gita would be gone in three days. Then finally, Rohit and Sanjana would have time alone together.

Aren't you guys glad to be rid of Radhika? She might be back hahaha you'll have to wait and see! Also Gita is gonna be gone pretty soon too. So finally, Rohit and Sanjana can be a normal married couple free to enjoy some alone time together.
