Behind Dama de Noche
There were three things that inspired me to write this short boy's love story: Taylor Swift's latest album, The Tortured Poets Department; The Cornflower, written by Jom Gamerland; and the Dama de Noche itself.
It was the night of April 17, 2024, I sat outside at our veranda. I was scrolling through my FB timeline when I caught the scent of the Dama de Noche. As far as I could remember, my father would say, "maamoton ang dama de noche," and I would agree. He said that the flowers are used in funerals.
You might notice that I wrote it differently in the story. I decided to put it a twist into it, thus decided to connect it instead to a belief that everytime the flowers bloom, it signifies that a loved one is watching over you.
Although I started writing this story last April 17, 2024, 3 days later than the release, Taylor's lastest album is what inspired me to continue writing the story.
Dama de Noche was inspired by another short story entitled The Cornflower, written by Jom Gamerland. This is what pushed me to write a tragic story connected to a flower.
Dama de Noche is somewhat personal for me. I poured all the pain I frustrations I felt in these past days. Through writing this story, I was able to finally release that burden.
