Chapter 02||Settlement
The next day, early in the morning, Dallas and his dad went shopping for his apartment. Dallas bought a lot of stuff, from the kitchen to the bedroom, and for the bathroom to the study room, all in small or medium size. Because his apartment was small, he was not supposed to buy big size stuffs. After finishing the shopping, he went back to the hotel to put those things away before going to have lunch. They were in a hurry because they wanted to explore the office and his internship place too, so they went nearby restaurant to have quick lunch.
After having a great lunch in the restaurant, they decided to rest a bit before heading to the residency and internship buildings. They needed to have at least an hour of nap time because the food at that restaurant was really awesome. Well, that restaurant name was one of the names of siblings of Dallas. Maybe that attracted them more, but in reality, it was one of the best restaurants in town. After having a beautiful nap, Dallas was so ready to head to the residency and internship building. But his dad was taking a shower, so Dallas used that opportunity to update his girlfriend, Curvy. Because out of the hotel, there was no wi-fi, and still that day, Dallas hadn't bought the new local sim card, so his phone was data-less out of the hotel. Curvy was waiting for the updates from Dallas, so as soon as possible she replied to his updates and confirmed to him that she was okay there. The updates between them were too short because his dad was there ready to go after the shower. Dallas, in short, said good bye to Curvy, and they both kissed each other via text, which was so romantic.
By walking for 10 minutes, Dallas reached the internship building. Wow, it was a huge building. Old local architecture was used to maintained its beauty. That area was huge with many connected buildings to each other. Some were named after unions and some were after great historical figures. Some were modern, like a sci-fi movie set, but some were very cultural with old design. There was a building named Diamond, and another building was based on the famous economist John Hicks. A modern 'art tower' was the center of attraction for that landmark because it was a 22-story building, the tallest among others, which was visible from every corner of that landmark. There was lots of greenery around each building. Even there was a building which was covered with green grass and plants. It looked awesome. The perfect blend of green on a red brick wall, it was soothing to the eyes. Dallas and his father were eager to explore every inch of that famous landmark known as the TYO (Tokyo Stock Exchange). Dallas was happy to see the places where his internship will start from next week after the end of welcome week. His dad was feeling secure because the environment of that landmark was making him feel secure for his son.
After finishing the landmark trip, both father and son headed towards the apartment of Dallas, which was sanctioned by the company for him. They went there to see if they were permitted to visit in or not, because an appointment for shifting was scheduled for the next day. But surprisingly, the apartment reception allowed them to visit their apartment and even offered Dallas if he wanted to check in that day, it was okay. The office said that there were no more appointments for that day, so if they wished, they could easily shift to their apartment. Dallas wanted to enjoy his freedom; his new life as soon as possible, so he was super excited. That's why he grabbed their offer without any second thought. He convinces his dad to check in early. His dad happily accepted his offer. Maybe he too wanted his alone time at the hotel. Maybe he wanted to spend "me time" alone there, as Dallas wanted same.
Dallas and his dad went back to the hotel to grab his all-apartment stuff, he updated Curvy about the preparation of his shift from the hotel. His stuff was minimal as much as possible, so it easily fitted in the taxi. He loaded everything and then reached to the apartment. Before adjusting the gear, he had to go through the final check-in process again. That time he got his room keys, one as magnetic and another as physical, for emergencies or failure of the magnetic one. It was a cool bracelet with a magnetic stripe built into it. He just needed to wave his bracelet above the key panel to unlocked or locked the door. While he was completing his remaining final paperwork, his dad adjusted his mattress over the bed. He placed some utensils in the kitchen. The kitchen of the apartment was quite good; it was neither tiny nor big. It was average. That apartment was a combo of four separate single rooms with a common living room and a single kitchen for all. It was designed for four people to use the storage, bin, oven, and stove. The dining table was perfect for four people. It was a medium-sized table. The couch was large and placed in the common room so that anyone was able to use it. There was a TV section for entertainment. The overall apartment was not bad, but the problem was the bathroom. It was small and combo, with a shower and washbasin. Even the toilet commode was attached near to the shower section, which meant during every shower it was guaranteed that the floor of the whole bathroom was expected to be wet. But apart from that, the apartment was good for a single person to use.
After the finish of shifting, it was already evening. Dallas and his father were both tired, and they needed a great cup of coffee to wake them up from their tiring phase. So, Dallas walked with his dad towards downtown to the café. It was a beautiful coffee shop where relaxed background music was playing. They had a garden sitting area with some special private tables. Dallas asked his dad to choose on of that private corner seat so that they could both talk, preserving their privacy. Because, during lunch time, Dallas's dad had informed him that he wanted to talk with him. So, Dallas thought, why not during coffee? They ordered a latte with cream on top. Dallas asked his dad what he wanted to talk about. Was there any important talk pending from his side? His dad denied it.
Dallas: Then what, dad? Go ahead.
Dad: Well, there is nothing important, just about health.
Dallas: Eh. Health?
Dad: Health is the most important thing we need to be concerned about when you live apart alone.
Dallas: Okay, so what about health?
Dad: Look, son, you are going to be independent, which means lots of parties, girls, and guys will attract you.
Dallas: Oh Jeez, Guy? Are you kidding me? No guy is going to entice me.
Dad: That means you accept parties and girls will attract you, right?
Dallas: Maybe. Well, to be honest, they sure will.
Dad: Yeah, so when it comes to parties, you have to be careful; no drugs or weed, okay?
Dallas: Okay, I promise no drugs or weed, just some alcohol.
Dad: And what about girls?
Dallas: I don't know.
Dad: Don't be overly smart XD. Of course, chicks will attract you, and it's fine, but keep in mind about protection.
Dallas: Daaaad, eww, will you stop, please?
Dad: Look, son, I don't want to be grandparents right now, and neither you are capable to be the father.
Dallas: Whaaat? What do you mean, I can't? Dad I am well built under my belt, so don't say that again.
Dad: Oh! I swear to God, you will be the father of a child only if you find the perfect mother for your future children. And it's just a new stage in your life, where girls and guys are more concerned with flesh than with soul. So, you can't be a father right now with any random chick. Got my point?
Dallas: Okay, I will take care of it.
Dad: And yeah, what about monthly expenses? Because your internship company will pay you quarterly. So, till the first quarter, how are you going to manage expenses?
Dallas: Well, I have some money. I guess it will be enough.
Dad: Well, your mom and I were thinking of funding you at $400 per month until you get your first quarter pay.
Dallas: Thanks, I can't deny, I accepted it. I am sure I will manage every month with just those 400.
Both dad and son hugged each other with the promise of seeing off the next day, because Dallas's dad had a flight the next day to return to his home. Dallas's dad cried a bit but tried to hide it. Well, guys will be guys, and they sure will try to hide their tears in front of others. Dallas was sad a bit. He too hid his emotions from his dad. But his excitement was making him happy. After many years, he was ready to start his life alone. He was ready to touch the sky of happiness on his own. He was self-sufficient; no rules; no time limit; nothing stood in his way. After the coffee, his dad went to the hotel and Dallas went to his apartment because no parents were allowed to stay at apartment with interns. And on his way back to the apartment, he bought the local SIM card, which needed 24 hours to activate its full services. After reaching the apartment, he talked with his mom and updated Curvy too. He was able to use the apartment's wi-fi at no cost. He was exploring his new life... Because now he knew happiness is a journey how we reach 'In Search Of LIFE-UNDERCOVER'.
