Chapter 6

Zoey sat on her boyfriend's bed as she twirled her hair between her fingertips. Her other hand cupped her cheeks, proportioning her head forward to face Drew who was sitting in front of her on a chair. It was a Saturday afternoon with kids biking down the streets with giggles and smiles from ear to ear. For these two, however, it could be said otherwise.
"What's your game plan?" Drew raised an eyebrow as Zoey pouted her lips.
"Teaching her a lesson, obviously. If she's not going to talk to me then clearly there's something wrong with her." Zoey rolled her eyes, adjusting herself to sit upwards on the bed and look at her boyfriend with an eyebrow twitch.
"You better make sure Henry doesn't find out about this 'plan' of yours. I don't want to deal with his rambling more than I have to." Drew responded firmly, locking his eyes with hers. Zoey shook her head with a slight smug grin on her face, as if she already had everything panned out.
"Don't worry, Drew. Nobody will know."

The past few weeks have been quite indifferent for the music club, and their two new... members? In addition to the club's already-existing five members, Lia and Daisy seem to be spending a lot of their free time at the club, chattering away and conversing like they've been long-time friends. Witnessing this sends shivers down Jake's spine, wondering how they both got close so quickly. He couldn't help but wondered what had happened, and if they also hang outside of club, like he frequently does with the club.
"Jake, is something wrong?" The familiar hoarse, yet alluring voice, stuck his attention back to reality. Hailey had put her guitar back on the stand to make her presence in front of him, a concerned glare plastered against her face. Jake responded with a light chuckle, scratching the back of his neck.
"Heh, yeah, I'm fine, Hailey. Sorry for making you worry. What verse are we on?" Jake asked, referring back to the music sheets Luke had given to him that morning when they met at their lockers.
"We already finished, Jake. A while ago, actually. Are you sure you're okay?" Hailey glared at Daisy, who took note of her worried behavior. She excused herself from talking to Sean and Lia and made her way to the other two, smiling brightly.
"How's it going, guys? Are you liking the new song?" Daisy inquired, slightly brushing against Hailey's shoulder and grinning at impact. "Sean was showing me his plans for mixing, Lia and I are super excited!"
"Thanks Daisy, it means a lot to the club. If you have any ideas, let us know." Said Sean with a positive grin on his face. Daisy giggled in response, looking towards Hailey, who slightly grinned amid making eye contact. Jake took notice of this interaction, and was visibly glad that Daisy and Lia were fitting into the club so well, especially everyone's new blossoming friendship. Given Lia's history of being friends with Zoey, he figured they would be hesitant to accepting her into the group. I guess Daisy really can change a person for the better. He knows how much Hailey has struggled to make friends with people outside of the club, so the two would make great girlfriends for her.
"Well, I'm gonna go grab a sandwich from the cafeteria! Whos' with me?!" Yelled Milly from the other side of the club room as she placed her electric guitar on it's stand. The conversation quickly altered from the club's practice to what everyone brought or planned to buy for lunch. One by one, everyone began to trail out of the room and towards the cafeteria, drooling temptation present. Jake let out a slight sigh of amusement and followed the group, appreciating the club for what it currently was. Hopefully it stays this way forever.

As the group walked to the cafeteria, Daisy stopped in her tracks to open her locker, which Jake took note of, as he was a little behind the rest of the group. He stared at her hands as she stroked the numbers against her the lock, twisting it to perfection to open the chamber of secrets. He noticed her take out her sky blue lunchbox with a swift action, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear before shutting the chamber. As she shut her locker, she glared to the right and noticed Jake standing in his tracks, looking directly her way.
"Hey, Jake. Are you joining everyone for lunch?" Daisy smiled as she held her hand over the crevice of her locker. Jake hasn't even realized he stopped walking and was left staring at her. He laughed awkwardly as he began to walk closer to her stance, fidgeting with his bracelet.
"Yeah, I think so! I just noticed you stopped so I wanted to see if you were okay." He quickly replied with, now standing within grazing distance from her.
"Oh, I'm fine! I just needed to grab my lunch from my locker," Daisy said with a slight grin. "Actually, would you like to go eat lunch together on the rooftop? There's some things I think we should talk about."

Similar to how the Gardening Club once was, the rooftop became Jake and Daisy's occasional meeting spot. Before school, during lunch, after school, Jake always made himself available for the pure angelic girl in front of him.
"Again, I'm sorry to drag you into this," Daisy gave a sincere look at Jake, who was holding the rooftop door open with his heel, "I know how your friends can be a little judgmental."
"Don't worry about it! They don't care! Really!" By now Jake was sweating in nervousness, he wasn't sure what to think of this entire situation.
"I don't want to make you feel awkward or uncomfortable around me or any of your friends..." She trailed on, getting quieter as the words left her mouth. The two of them took a seat on a bench on the rooftop, placing their food on their laps, revealing the goods. Jake has brought his backpack with him, which he placed next to the end of the bench, and took out a turkey sandwich with cheese and a bottle of orange juice. As he unwrapped his sandwich, he noticed Daisy very cautiously opened her lunchbox, feeling the uneasiness from her presense.
"Really, don't worry about it, Daisy. If anything, I think they're more excited to see me talking to a girl for once." Jake chuckled, with Daisy following along.
"Well, that does make me feel a little better. Is it okay if we exchange numbers? To keep in touch and all..." Daisy dug her delicate fingers below her skirt to pull out her phone. She had a more outdated phone, but the clear case with variant vibrates of blue petals spread across caught Jake's eye.
"Of course! I'd love to!" Jake quickly scrambled into his pants pocket to grab his phone, typing in his code and handing the phone towards Daisy, who smiled.
"Great! Thank you so much, Jake! I added my phone number - just text me so I can add you back." Her smile made him smile in return, nodding vigorously and taking his phone back. His actions were interrupted abruptly when the bell rang, calling the students to make their way to their next class.
"Oh, I guess we had less time than I realized! I'll see you later, Jake. Don't forget to text me!" Without a second to process, she took her stance as her hair swept past him and strolled gracefully to her destination.

After his minimal interaction with Daisy, Jake headed to his last period of the day - science. The perpetrator of it all. In all honesty, Jake would rather go home and take the biggest nap of his life. Science was easily his most disinterested subject, and it was very obvious given his attention span in class. He did, however, have the class with his three best friends and the majority of the music club members, which made the class worth it. Never in his life did Jake think that sending a text message would be so difficult. What should he send? A simple greeting, or a meme? Or just say it's him? The could have written an entire paragraph with how many different text variations he's drafted. It would be an understatement to express the importance of this first text. This was the girl he had a crush on, after all. But it was also the girl his entire school thought he was dating... so maybe it didn't matter as much? He sighed and settled on what he concluded was simple yet affirmative: Hi. Daisy's reply was instant: Jake? His skin jumped at the response, but calmed quickly, knowing what to say: That's me. He kept a firm stare at his phone as Daisy's side was typing, awaiting her response:

Daisy: Great! I'm glad we're able to talk outside of school now.
Jake: Same
Daisy: Anyway, I wanted to ask you something.
Jake: Sure
Daisy: Do you want to go on a date with me?
