Friday/ Of Mice And Men by John Steinbeck
What is 'Of Mice and Men'?
The compelling story of two outsiders striving to find their place in an unforgiving world. Drifters in search of work, George and his simple-minded friend Lennie have nothing in the world except each other and a dream--a dream that one day they will have some land of their own. Eventually they find work on a ranch in California's Salinas Valley, but their hopes are doomed as Lennie, struggling against extreme cruelty, misunderstanding and feelings of jealousy, becomes a victim of his own strength.
Why I loved it?
Unlike most people, I didn't read this book for school- shock horror I know. When most of my year was reading this book, my class was reading Pride and Prejudice (fun, I know). So I decided to pick up this novella just to see what it was all about and I was pleasantly surprised with how much I actually enjoyed the book.
It's a heartwarming but also tragic tale of friendship, hope, and freedom. If you're looking for a good introduction into classics or modern classics I would recommend reading this book. It's very short, easy to read, and a beautifully crafted story.
