helenium

"You two seem close," Youngjae spoke almost as soon as Hoseok dropped back into his seat, creating an instantly awkward atmosphere. "How long have you known each other?"

"We've been friend for around a few months now! I met him around January time, because I can remember it being-"

"That's nice." Youngjae interrupted, bringing his cup to his lips and taking a long gulp, and making Hoseok even more uncomfortable. He looked down at the ground, playing with his fingers.

This wasn't the first time Youngjae had interrupted his boyfriend, if he talked for too long he would never be able to finish his sentences, there was always some sort of snide comment to be said instead. Hoseok was aware it wasn't healthy, but he wasn't going to question it. What would be the point if it wasn't really Youngjae's fault?

"He seems nice," Youngjae continued, watching a boy sat a few tables away who was sipping at his own drink, taking to Rosé in Korean. "Do you like him?"

"Yeah, he's nice! He takes care of me." Hoseok spoke in a quiet voice, his eyes following the trail where Youngjae was looking. He was frowning deeply now, trying his hardest to keep his cool and prevent himself from crying.

"That's nice." Youngjae repeated, barely even paying attention to his words.

"I have to go, Youngjae-ah. Bye." Hoseok pushed himself up from his seat, refusing to listen to Youngjae's protests and walked out without another word, slamming the café door behind him.

It didn't take long for him to be followed by shouting, but his feet kept walking down the many pavements it would take to reach the one person he wanted to see. No matter how many steps he took the hollering continued behind him, until a hand was wrapped around his wrist and yanked harshly, forcing him to spin around and face the shouter with an unimpressed look on his face.

"What the hell do you think you're doing, embarrassing me like that? What kind of trick are you trying to play?" Youngjae raised his voice, crossing his arms angrily over his chest and giving Hoseok his best unimpressed look, refusing to step any closer to him than he was as of now.

"I saw you looking at that boy, Youngjae. I'm not an idiot! You weren't even listening to what I was saying!" Hoseok shouted in return, ignoring the odd stares he was receiving from multiple people around them, letting them slide around their argument and try and block it out.

"Can you say anything? You literally hugged that boy you saw earlier, and the younger one he was with! What am I supposed to make of that?"

"That I have friends! You can't use me being friendly and compare it to you checking out another guy in front of your boyfriend!" Hoseok snapped, and Youngjae's mouth opened to reply, but the both of them were interrupted by the ringing of a bell.

Yoongi glared at the both of them, taking a deep breath laced with awkwardness and anger into his lungs. "Do you mind, shouting out here? Especially about me?"

"Hyung..." Hoseok muttered, but he was hushed with a finger held up to Yoongi's lips.

"I'm just going to stop your arguing here. C'mon, Hoseok-ah. We'll see you later, Youngjae-ah." Yoongi delicately wrapped his fingers around Hoseok's forearm and led him into the shop, pressing the door closed and locking it before Youngjae could protest, flipping the 'open' sign to 'closed'. There was a stray bouquet of helenium's on the bench, laying abandoned, left to settle from the attack of the secateurs.

"I'm sorry you had to hear that, hyung. I didn't mean for Youngjae to snap like that, especially just outside of your store. I'm sorry for the inconvenience!" Hoseok bowed down slightly but was reassured by two hands gently resting on his shoulders, forcing his body back up and smiling at him, the gentleness in his eyes creating a swoon in his stomach.

His mind was all over the place when Yoongi pulled him forwards, wrapping his arms around the boy's neck and holding him as close as he could, muttering a quiet 'it's okay' into his ear. His hands didn't hesitate to move around the older's waist almost possessively and cling there, letting a muffled and quiet noise escape due to the realisation of the last ten minutes.

"It isn't your fault, it really isn't. Youngjae was just being a bit mean," Yoongi pulled away so they could see each other but were still holding onto each other, watching each other cautiously as if they knew what was expected to happen at this moment. "You deserve better than somebody who checks out other guys."

"I like him, hyung. I-I don't know what to do. He's bad to me but...I like him."

"But do you love him, Hoseok-ah?" Yoongi was struggling to talk at this point, forcing out every single word he spoke and trying his hardest to be supportive, but in a way that didn't sound like he was persuading Hoseok to end it with his boyfriend.

"I-" Hoseok had to take a minute to properly think about it. He had to fully think about Youngjae, to wait until his mind could solve it. His eyes trailed across Yoongi's face, patient and willing to wait, and he believed his heart had finally found its place. "I think I love someone else."

"R-really? Who?" Yoongi raised an eyebrow and began to pull his arms away, but they were grabbed and pulled back up.

"Someone who works in a flower shop," Hoseok muttered, sighing gently. "He has pink hair, too."

"Then why are you still dating Youngjae..." Yoongi whispered. "When you could be dating this boy?"

"I don't know," Hoseok managed to shuffle closer to Yoongi, up until their foreheads were together. "Would I stand a chance?"

"I think so."

Hoseok was about to lean the rest of the way in, when something in Yoongi's head clicked, and he pulled himself away as quick as he could.

"You're still dating Youngjae, Hoseok. You said you like him. You need to pick, love. Me or Youngjae, I don't want you being with both of us at the same time, that's cruel. If you want to stay with Youngjae, that's okay. But I will welcome you with open arms." Yoongi sighed, rubbing his joint fingers off his forehead rather roughly.

"I-I will." Hoseok managed to stumble towards the door, unlocking it and almost tumbling out, being greeted with an unfortunate bout of rain.

It was now or never.
