Special Devotional - Day 2

Day 2: Giving Up

Temptation to give up – Temptation to give up is real. Even though Christ warned us in this world we will have sorrows and trials, sometimes the sorrows and trials seem too much to bear. We want to give up. We pray. We seek. We wait. When our circumstances don’t appear to change, we might feel overwhelmed and abandoned.

Have you been there? Have you been tempted to give up, to walk away? How do you handle those feelings? Where do you turn? One way is to know you are not alone. Even the disciples faced uncertainty and questioned whether to stay with Jesus or depart. John 6:66 & 67, “At this point many of his disciples turned away and deserted him. Then Jesus turned to the Twelve and asked, ‘Are you also going to leave?’”

There may be times when we are discouraged. We may be tempted to give up or experience anger or frustration. When those times come, think of Peter. When Jesus asked the twelve if they, too, would leave, listen to Peter’s response. John 6: 68 (NLT), “Simon Peter replied, ‘Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words that give eternal life.’”

We must remind ourselves of God’s promise to never leave us. We must trust and believe and remember we are not alone. This is a great time to seek Godly friendships or professionals. We will be tempted to give up, but we must not!
