Special Devotion - Lust and Contentment
Lust and Contentment
“Now when evening came David arose from his bed and walked around on the roof of the king's house, and from the roof he saw a woman bathing; and the woman was very beautiful in appearance.” (2 Samuel 11:2)
The familiar words are as relevant today as they were when they were written about King David over 2500 years ago. The object of season David’s attention is Bathsheba, the wife of Uriah the Hittite. What started innocently in the heart of a king one warm moonlit evening launched a series of choices and decisions ultimately resulting in lies, deception and the destruction of innocent lives.
Unfortunately, many people have, like King David, allowed an innocent thought to set in motion a series of decisions leading to a treacherous road of angst and grief.
“There is nothing new under the sun,” King Solomon says in Ecclesiastes 1:9, and yet, why do we fail to recognize the warnings when they are happening to us?
King David’s story does not end well. Think for a moment about King David that night. What if he had climbed back into bed overwhelmed with gratitude for his family, his position and his sacred relationship with his Heavenly Father?
The next three days we will look at what the Bible says about lust (desire), contentment and a pursuit of high moral standards.
