Special Devotion - Day 3

Day 3: Character

Philippians 4:13says: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” While the Apostle Paul’s words are quoted often and applied to a plethora of situations and feats, they actually address his narrative about contentment, high moral standards, and right thinking.

Paul has just been talking about being content in every circumstance. Lust and jealousy often occur when we are not satisfied with people or things we have in our lives. We want more. We want different. Like King David, what we think about in our minds affects our actions.

Paul suggests we think about whatever things are true, noble, lovely or virtuous. He says he has learnedto be content in every circumstance whether good or bad. This is good news for us because, like Paul, we too can learn. How? Paul attributes his ability to do this to Christ who strengthens him.

What’s Next?

How about you? Good character and integrity begin in the mind. What is your thought-life like? How do you redirect lustful thoughts? Confess ungodly thoughts and ask the Holy Spirit to help you. He can strengthen you. You have an advocate, and He is ready to make things right. Can you relate to Paul? Are you content in all circumstances? Share your thoughts.
