The Boy In The Window pt.1
(Kokichi's POV)
I had recently moved into a new neighborhood with my mother about two weeks ago. We had been wanting to move for a while, but waited for summer vacation to start because it was more practical and would give us more time for packing and unpacking.
The neighborhood was small, and everyone knew everyone. They seemed very enthusiastic to keep it that way, as it seemed every neighbor came by with their children bearing sweets or a friendly welcome.
There were a few kids my age that I was able to make friends with fairly quickly. Rantaro Amami and Kaito Momota.
There was also another girl, Kaede Akamatsu, but I hadn't gotten a chance to talk to her much.
"Well this is a nice place, isn't it, Kokichi?" My mom asked excitedly, "Everyone here is so nice!"
"Yeah, much nicer than the last place we lived..." I sighed. I didn't miss that place at all.
Mom looked to the ground, "It's a lovely afternoon, why don't you go outside?"
"Alright," I said, turning to the front door and walking outside.
Looking around, I saw Amami and Momota trying to hit each other with a baseball.
(Long ago when I did live in a neighborhood of people, the boys actually did this-)
Is this what they normally do? It looked stupid, but at the same time kinda fun.
When they noticed me walking out of my house, they called me over.
"Ouma-Kun!" Amami called, nailing Momota with the baseball right in his chest.
"Fuck, man!" Momota yelled, "That really hurt!"
"No shit," Amami laughed.
"What're you guys doing?" I asked, still confused on what this game was exactly.
"We're trying to hit each other with this baseball," Momota explained, holding up the ball that just hit him, "first one who says they want to stop playing loses, and is a damn pussy."
"Great! Another game I'll beat you both at!" I cheered, "I have an insane tolerance for pain, you have no idea."
"Bring it on then," Amami challenged.
Because of my small stature, I wasn't an easy target. Not to mention how quick I was.
Amami and Momota, refusing to give up their pride, had let this go on for a while before they both decided to give up.
"What the hell, man," Amami said, taking a deep breath, "you're almost impossible to beat."
"What can I say? I'm good at most games," I said.
The three of us were a little worn out by running around throwing a baseball, so we decided to sit in the grass and talk for a while.
"What was your old school like?" Amami asked.
"It was alright," I said, "nothing special. No one interesting. All around, pretty boring."
"Sounds terrible," Momota sighed.
"Yeah, there wasn't a single rumor, fight, or any ounce of drama," I complained, "So boring..."
Momota laughed, "well if drama is what you're into, you've come to the right place."
"Totally," Amami began, "On the last day before summer break, the hottest girl at school, Miu Iruma, came out to everyone as a lesbian. Everyone thinks she has a thing for her best friend, Akamatsu."
Momota sighed, "which is a total shame because Amami-Kun totally has a crush on Akamatsu-Chan."
Amami blushed, "Do not!" He said, picking up the baseball and hitting Momota in the head.
I chuckled. As the two began to argue I stared to the side. I focused my attention to a warm grey house. In the top left window, a boy about my age with navy hair and olive eyes sadly started down at Amami, Momota, and I.
I turned back to the two, "who's that up there?" I said, careful not to point so the boy wouldn't notice I was talking about him.
Amami and Momota seemed to already know who I was talking about as they groaned and rolled their eyes.
"That's the boy in the window," Amami said, "or what Momota and I like to call him, Peeping Piper."
"He never goes out of the house, not even to go to school," Momota said, "the only time he's ever seen is when he peeps on the neighborhood kids."
Amami turned to face the grey house, "WHAT'CHA LOOKING AT?" He shouted angrily.
The boy in the window jumped and gave a look of nervousness with a childlike innocence before slamming his window shut. He looked almost apologetic. I felt kinda bad.
"Why doesn't he ever come out?" I asked.
"Nobody really knows," Momota said, "he has an uncle who comes out to buy groceries, but that's about it. He won't answer any questions about peeping piper." Momota sighed.
"But that doesn't mean there aren't rumors or theories," Amami smiled. "There are a few, but my favorite is that they're apart of some creepy cult!"
"Oh! What about the one where he stalks everyone because he's planning a mass murder," Momota said. These were some outlandish stories the neighborhood had made up with even knowing the guy's real name... Even I thought it was a little mean, but I let it go.
"It's getting late, I should probably head back home," I said.
"Why? You scared of peeping piper or something?" Amami teased.
"Of course not!" I shouted, "I just need to go home."
"Alright," Momota sighed, "See you tomorrow?"
"Yeah."
I walked home and entered the house, "good evening, Kokichi," My mother smiled. "How was your day?"
"It was good," I said, quietly.
"Well, dinner will be done soon, alright?" She said.
"Ok." I went into the living room and plopped onto the couch. The boy in the window was a strange situation... And I was interested in it.
A/N: HELLOOOOOOOO
I'm going to need to split this up into two parts...
WELL. I hope you have a wonderful day!
