◗ when he first started to transition, there were a couple of family members and friends who had a hard time dealing with all of the changes that quickly started happening, specifically when it came to his name and pronouns. so, in an attempt to make the whole process easier for them he came up with a compromise that they could instead call him by a shortened version of his name in hopes that would make it easier; which it kinda did. but, after getting over his need to have people accept him and joining a company where someone else had the same nickname, he eventually asked that people stop using the nickname all together.

    ◗ despite trying his best to come across as this super intense and serious guy, the majority of the time no one looks at him that way. from how easy it is to make him blush to how willing he is to comply to almost any fan request that comes his way, he's much more of a softie than he's willing to admit. so, his fans admit it for him. whenever he does something cute or wholesome they start calling him won won which always makes him turn as red as an apple.

    ◗ since he and jay met in the rebel entertainment hallways they have been as close to each other as two people can be without dating. daewon has always made it a point to make fun of jay's name because of how 'simple' and 'boring' it is; and after learning of daewon's english name he shortened it and started making fun of him for the same reason. so, the two are known for yelling out each other's name with a straight face before breaking into laughter.

defined as a continuous, long-term form of depression; it's something that daewon has struggled with for many years. it began just after he moved to south korea and started training, so he attributed his low mood to being homesick but when it persisted after he'd gotten used to the scenery change he decided to see a therapist because his mood and thoughts were worrying him. and after many sessions he ended up being diagnosed with the disorder. he's worked hard on his coping skills and communication skills over the years, which has made it easier to deal with the low places his mind goes, but it's still hard for him at times.

∞ ♛ II personality: daewon has always been confident and self-assured, and those qualities have only strengthened as he grew older. he's always known who he was, what he believed in, and what he wanted to do -- even if those feelings ended up changing. he's loud, open, and bold about everything happening around him and is known for making all of his opinions known to the people around him whenever he feels it to be necessary, and doesn't care about whether or not other people agree with him. his stubbornness makes changing his mind almost impossible, which he agrees is just as good as it is bad. there have been many times when his unwillingness or inability to change his mind has gotten him into trouble that could've been avoided, but he tries not to dwell on those situations and instead likes to look at them as learning opportunities.

though he can come across as someone who is stuck in his ways, he considers himself to be very open-minded and accepting. he credits coming out to his family at a young age and having their support to be a big factor in the way he approaches people who have different views from him; and the negative reaction he got from some of his classmates for his strong sense of justice. the bullying he faced when he was younger made him very sensitive to the mistreatment of others so he can't keep silent when he sees something happening that he perceives as unfair. he's an incredibly outspoken person who doesn't back down from any situation. and even though he doesn't expect his words to change the minds of everyone around him, he always finds himself feeling incredibly impatient and frustrated when he comes across someone who is close-minded, which can lead to him being angry for the rest of the day.

his patience with the people close to him far outweighs that of everyone else though. when it comes to people around him he is very forgiving and, at times, can come across as a pushover. no matter how cool or intense he tries to come across the majority of the time, he can be very sensitive and ultimately strives to be and feel loved. so, he'll go to the ends of the earth to do what he can for everyone around him. even if that means sacrificing pieces of himself to do so.

when he does get hurt or burned by someone he cares about he doesn't confront them most of the time, instead opting to internalize it and try to deal with it himself. he's very aware of how people view him and worries that the people close to him will turn on him, so he does all he can to avoid having to face that possible reality. he knows that he can be hard to deal with at times and one of his biggest fears is that he's too much. which at times makes him go quiet and retreat into himself.

daewon's parents, ryeom hyunki and pan eun-hee, were high school sweethearts who had him not long after graduating from university. he was born in seattle, washington but when he was still a toddler they moved down to portland, oregon after both of his parents got better job opportunities there. though his parents were often busy with work, they always made time to do things as a family. and even after his younger brother was born in 2009, they worked hard to make sure daewon didn't feel left out,  which made it easy for him and his younger brother jungwoo to grow lose.

from a young age, daewon has always proclaimed himself to be a boy despite that not being the gender he was assigned at birth, and though his parents didn't really understand what was going on they did their best to support him in any way they could. and by the time he became a teenager, everyone in his life only knew him as the person he was as opposed to the one that was originally assigned to him, though not everyone accepted him. some of his extended family members didn't (and still don't) accept him, and a decent number of his classmates bullied him. but, it never bothered him too much.

he'd always been interested in music, and while in high school he put a lot of time into teaching himself how to play various instruments, but mostly the guitar. he found that he had a talent for learning instruments and through that, he also developed a passion for it. he liked being able to create something all on his own and appreciated how easy it made it to express and understand his own feelings. so, he decided that's what he wanted to do for the rest of his life.

that's when he discovered kpop,  and decided that would be the best way for him to go after his dreams. so, he convinced his parents to let him move to seoul so he could audition for various agencies. he was originally accepted into iceberg media where he trained for 2 years, and eventually debuted in the boy group phantom, but about a year after debuting he ended up left the group and agency for a few different reasons. he stayed company-less for a bit while he finished filming some projects in the us, before eventually joining rebel entertainment, where he's been causing controversies and making amazing music ever since.

∞ ♛ II trivia:

♚ he taught himself how to play most of the instruments that he knows. his parents spent a lot of time and money on his transition, which made him feel bad. even though they were always well off. so, when he decided he wanted to learn how to play the guitar he decided to teach himself instead of asking them to pay for lessons. and after learning that it was an easy thing for him to pick up, he continued to teach himself any other instrument that he wanted to learn.

♚ a lot of his neighbors and friends while growing up spoke spanish, which is how he initially started learning how to speak the language, but it wasn't until meeting his partner that he decided to take learning it more seriously. he struggled a lot with it initially but it's gotten easier to pick up over time, and he's determined to eventually master the language.

♚ when he was little, he tried his best to convince his parents to get him a pet cat but, because his younger brother was allergic he never succeeded. so, he promised himself that he'd get one the first chance he got; which didn't happen until 2022. he got a sphynx cat named otto from a close friend of his mom's and they go everywhere together.

♚ he used to hate dancing. even though he loves doing it, it was what people used to criticize him for the most while in phantom so he became very insecure about his skills and refused to do it at all for a long time after debuting as a soloist. but, he started dancing for fun again in 2023, and danced for a comeback in november of 2024.

♚ along with the rock and punk adjacent music he listened to as a teenager, he grew up listening to a lot of classical music. his parents were big fans of the 'classics', so it was constantly on in the background while he was growing up. he's stated that listening to it now always makes him feel very nostalgic and brings back a lot of warm feelings, and it's had a big influence on both the music he makes and the way that he makes it.

♚ when he was younger, his mom would make him clean whenever he got overwhelmed or extremely angry about something to help him calm down and divert his attention to something else. it annoyed him at the time but now he sees how much it helped him learn how to manage his emotions, and he still cleans when he can't figure out another way to deal with his brain.

♚ he's sensitive to strong scents, especially floral ones. he isn't allergic to them, but they have always bothered him and caused him to have strong reactions. so, he tries to interact with those scents as little as possible.

♚ one of his favorite things to do when he and his friends have time off is to host movie nights at his place, where he usually makes them watch marathons of either disney movies or movies that are so bad that they end up being good.

♚ the first acting role he got happened accidentally. with approval from the company he was under at the time, he sent in some audition tapes to some roles that caught his eye, in both south korea and the us, with no expectation of hearing back from anyone. but, surprisingly he did, and he couldn't say no to the chance to fulfill another childhood dream of his. though music will always be his biggest passion, he's come to love acting just as much and hopes that he can continue to act for a long time.

♚ he is the worst person to be around when he's sick. he turns into an incredibly needy, angry, whiney, and all-around horrible person to deal with. which he is aware of, so he tries his best to keep to himself and self isolate whenever he does get sick (which isn't often). but, he is the complete opposite when it comes to getting injured and always tries to downplay any pain or uncomfortableness he feels.
