Dear reader,
I'm passionate about erotica which champions the legacy of the genre; stories that transgress and challenge the mainstream view of sex. I enjoy writing erotic literature that blurs the lines between eroticism and horror. The synthesis of these two genres sounds bizarre until you consider the vulgar psychological truth lurking in that fusion: There is an aspect of our erotic drive not tempered by civilizing parameters. Daevil's Tears explores sexual violence, obsession, and self-destruction as well as many of my real-world terrors: The use of drugs like Devil's Breath (Scopolamine) to subdue a person's will, human trafficking facilitated by technologies like Bitcoin/Dark Web, and the siren call of the sex trade for impoverished women.
The demons I've scripted are part of me; they do my erotic imagination's bidding, but I wouldn't ever wish them to manifest in my personal life. Authors who write thrillers about serial killer aren't maniacs any more than the readers who read them. This should seem obvious, but you have no idea how many times I've heard that women who write fictionalized rape not only condone the act, but also promote it. This is simply not true. Literature is a sandbox which allows us to safely explore the human condition—a space which should remain uncensored. Fictional crimes, after all, are not real.
That being said, I do feel a warning is needed. Daevil's Tears is a work of transgressive erotic fiction and contains themes of non-consensual sex, drug use, incest, and slavery. The characters in this story will suffer, and you will play the role of voyeur. This book may turn you on, offend you, and make you feel uncomfortable—perhaps all three at once. Its appeal is not universal; it was never meant to be.
My darkness tends to bleed on the page, but don't let me scare you too much. This book also contains love and levity, beauty and grace. In its pages, you will find homages to Nathaniel Hawthorne whose writing I cherish and the mythical cult of Pan. You will roam through a country estate filled with magical frescoes; encounter Gothic-Horror-inspired villains and experience sex that will make you blush. Epic fantasy, erotic thriller? Perhaps.
Lastly, for those of you familiar with The Tendrils of Fate Duology, Daevil's Tears is the origin story of Lyssandra, the madam of the notorious brothel The Grinding Wheel. Daevil's Tears significantly expands the fantasy world of Laremlis, specifically the area around Mencello in the nation of Calantia.
Sincerely,
Narcisse Navarre
