Twig Wand
If anyone has kids around three years old, I beg you to watch Bluey. It is one of the most hilarious kids shows out there.
This one-shot is based off the episode 'Feather Wand'.
One thing you need to know is Adrien Agreste will do anything for his children. After having such a sucky childhood himself it became his lives goal to keep the litter happy, even if it got him into certain predicaments.
"But Dad, what am I going to do whilst Emma and Louis are at the party?"
Hugo flopped down on the sofa next to Adrien as Marinette was busy sorting out Emma and Louis. The two older children were off to Bella Couffaine's eighth birthday party, leaving their four year old brother behind at home.
"When you're older you'll be invited to parties too," Adrien explained to his youngest son.
"But Bella is my friend too, it's not fair."
Adrien sighed and lifted the black haired boy onto his lap. This had been a recurring theme since the twins had received the invite a week ago.
"We know, and you'll have play dates with Bella soon, but they're only allowed to invite their classmates to the party as it's for children over the age of eight."
"You tell me I act like I'm eight." Hugo's eyes were huge, looking with hope at his father.
"Sorry Kiddo, they're checking ages when you enter the play zone."
"Ow!"
"Don't worry though, me and you will have a great time while the others are out. The two amigos." Adrien held his fist out to pound it with his son who responded fully heartedly.
"Hugo, come here please." Marinette shouted for their youngest to go see her in the office leaving Adrien to sit alone and think.
He understood his son's desperation, after all if it wasn't for his mother Adrien was sure he'd have missed out on everything until he was eighteen and a fully grown man. Marinette had been the friend and freedom he wanted so much and he swore he would pass on the joy to others, even if it meant his own son.
Adrien wandered around the garden thinking about what he could do whilst the others were out. He was left in charge, he was the key caregiver and he was going to make sure his son had the time of his life. Making his way under the oak tree at the back of the garden he found a twig that looked like a Harry Potter wand, and just like that he had an idea.
"Papa, look!" Hugo came bouncing back with a turtle shell bracelet on his wrist.
Even though akuma's came few and far between these days (they believe the new Papillon also has children) they always left their offspring prepared with the turtle Miraculous. One of the first few words the children learned was 'shell on' and 'shell-ter'. They took zero chances.
"Very cool, dude, but not as cool as this."
Hugo gasped in surprise.
"Is that?"
"Yes, it is my young one. The finest Twing Wand there is."
"But Bingo had a feather wand," Hugo said, hands on his hips and staring his father down.
"That is true," Adrien replied, "but as you know your old pops here is allergic to feathers and doesn't want to cover you in snot for the whole afternoon."
Hugo burst out laughing repeating the word snot in a variety of different voices as he took the twig out of Adrien's hand. Now, the feather wand is a very popular episode of one of Hugo's favourite shows. Bluey, and as much as Adrien would like to say the show sucked ... well ... he couldn't. He'd go as far as saying it's the most accurate portrayal of parenting he'd seen in a show, bar Modern Family.
"Try it out, Hu." Adrien exclaimed, pointing to the twig in Hugo's hand.
Hugo looked at the 'wand' in awe before pointing it at Adrien and sending out his command.
"Heavy!" The little boy said with confidence.
Adrien sank onto his bottom on the ground with an 'Ooof' sound, sending Hugo into fits of giggles. He pointed the wand again, this time at Adrien's head and commanded ...
"Heavy!"
This time Adrien fell backwards as though his head weighed five tons of bricks. Hugo danced around his papa laughing as Adrien begged for Hugo to 'unheavy' him.
"Ok boys, we'll be back -" Marinette stopped in her tracks and looked at the display in front of her. "What are you doing?"
"M'Lady run! Hugo has a twig wand." Adrien, in his usual overdramatics, called out to his wife.
"A twig wand?" She questioned.
"Heavy," Hugo pointed the wand at a confused Marinette and squealed the magic words.
Marinette looked between her son and Adrien unsure what to do.
"Oh no, Bugaboo, he got your bag."
Marinette looked at Adrien to see him wink, and suddenly she understood what to do.
"Not my bag," Marinette let it fall from her shoulder and slump on the floor, causing Tikki to fly out and wonder what was happening. The small kwami watched as Marinette attempted to pull her bag from the floor with no luck.
"Heavy!" Hugo shouted, this time pointing the wand at Tikki. The small kwami dropped to the floor and lay on her back.
"Plagg, we need your help."
The black kwami of destruction flew out and looked between the adult and kwami laying on the floor, and the other adult trying to pull her bag up and understood straight away.
"I'll go and get help." Plagg flew away into the house only to be joined moments later by the twins.
"Oh no, who let Hugo have a twig wand?" Emma asked as Louis ran out behind her.
"Kids, I need your help or we're going to be late." Marinette responded.
Hugo cackled as he ran around Adrien, who was still laying flat on the floor.
"Unheavy!" Hugo pointed to Marinette's bag and she stumbled backwards after 'pulling' it too hard. The young boy laughed again as he watched his mother grab his older two siblings and run out of the garden.
"Nino's at home with Rueben, I've told Alya for him to contact you if he needs any help. Bye boys." Marinette spoke in rushed words as she exited the house; red kwami and twins in tow.
Hearing the door shut, Adrien turned his head to come face-to-face with Plagg. The latter of the two finding it hard to keep himself composed.
"That kids a menace, you know, and the two of you encourage it."
"He's not a menace, Plagg. He's four years old with an overactive imagination."
"Wayzz, where are you hiding?" Hearing Hugo's voice approaching, Plagg zoomed away to hide. He was not getting dragged into one of the kids' games again.
Hugo walked to his papa and looked at him with a smile on his face, before launching to sit on his stomach.
"Let me have ice cream and I'll unheavy you."
"No chance! I'll just lay here forever and you can cook your lunch for yourself."
Hugo seemed to think about it before choosing the best idea. Point his wand at Adrien's head, he announced the release of the heaviness.
"And my body please, Hu," Adrien asked.
"Ok, unheavy."
Adrien stood up taking the small boy with him and flinging him over his shoulder.
"What do you want? Grand-père's croissants or chicken nuggets?"
"Croissants!" Hugo announced, kicking his legs in excitement and almost hitting Adrien in the face.
"To the dad mobile!" Adrien announced, keeping Hugo over his shoulder, he made his way to the kitchen counter, grabbing his keys and wallet.
Plagg and Wayzz appeared and slotted into Adrien's over shirt as they headed to the garage and into the car.
"Heavy!" Hugo shouted, aiming his twig at the car door. Adrien went to grab it and pretended to pull with all his might.
"It won't open, I need to put you down!"
Sliding the small child from his shoulder, Adrien took his two hands to the door handle and pulled it.
"I can't get in! Plagg, cataclysm the car door!"
Hugo burst out laughing holding his tummy.
"Maman would be so mad, she wouldn't give you kisses for a week!"
"No kisses for a week!" Adrien repeated in mock horror. "Please don't do that to me Hugo, I beg of you, you can have ice cream for breakfast tomorrow."
"Fine, but make it strawberry" Rolling his eyes Hugo sent his 'unheavy' spell to the door and Adrien flung it open, throwing himself to the ground at the same time.
"Wow! Your spells are getting stronger!"
"That's because I'm powerful, papa! I have a Miraculous!"
Adrien laughed at his son, before standing up and opening the door for his child. Giving his child a helping hand, Adrien strapped him in before climbing in the driver's seat.
"Now remember, no spells whilst Papa is driving."
"I know, I know! It's not safe."
Adrien started the engine and they were off to the patisserie. Wand in hand and a need for croissants.
Once Adrien had parked near the patisserie, they made their way to the front door only to find the place empty. Adrien let out a sigh of relief as he knew that Hugo would -
"Heavy!" The little boy shouted, sending Adrien down and onto his backside.
Hugo ran off away from his father and into the back of the patisserie in search of his grandparents. Adrien knew the moment he'd found them as an echo of squeals could be heard and that was just from Tom.
"Why do you play this game with the kid? It's a nightmare." Plagg reappeared around Adrien, surveying the area for the special treat Tom and Sabine would keep for him.
"He enjoys it, plus he's missing out today. I feel for him."
"Well, it's your precious rump you're giving a beating too." Plagg flew off leaving Adrien seated on the floor.
"Where's your papa?"
Adrien heard Sabine's voice before he saw her. The older woman couldn't help laughing as she looked at her son-in-law seated on the floor in the middle of the patisserie.
"Hey Sabine," Adrien let out a little laugh as Hugo approached again.
"Heavy!"
Adrien shrieked out a loud "no", as he slumped backwards onto the floor again, and just to Adrien's luck the door chimed with an incoming customer.
"Don't mind me," Adrien said, as the older woman shuffled around him and towards the counter.
"Good afternoon M. Cheng. Two choux buns please."
As Sabine went to serve the lady, Hugo was quick to it. Pointing his twig again he cast a spell on the bun Sabine was about to reach.
"Heavy!"
Sabine attempted to pull the bun up with no luck.
"Oh dear," she said, "can I choose two different ones please? I can't seem to lift this one up."
Hugo giggled again and covered his mouth. The customer smiled and nodded to Sabine, understanding now why there was a random adult laying on the floor.
"Unheavy!" Hugo released Adrien from his position, and the latter jumped up, grabbing Hugo and throwing him over his shoulder.
"This little one needs a time out," Adrien said, causing his son to howl.
Spinning around Hugo caught someone else coming through the back door.
"Heavy!" He shouted, causing Tom to drop the sack of flour, currently over his shoulder, to the floor.
"Argh!" He cried out, as a poof of flour covered them.
"Oh no!" Adrien placed Hugo down and went to help Tom. The two men stood side to side trying to pull the flour from the floor.
"Heavy!" Adrien collapsed down onto his bottom again, shouting Hugo's name.
The young boy laughed as he unheavied the bag of flour.
"You're such a good papa," the older customer said, turning around and leaving the store.
"How long have you been playing this?" Sabine asked as Hugo was casting spells left, right and center on Tom.
"Since Marinette left with the twins, I've kind of promised him we'll have the best day together." He scratched the back of his neck.
"You're too good, Adrien."
He beamed at the praise, allowing it to fill his heart with joy.
"I try," he said.
"Two croissants?" She asked.
"Please," he responded, reaching out to grab them from his mother-in-law only to be interrupted by a chiming. This had to be a joke.
"Hugo, sweetie, your papa needs you to come and unheavy him."
Sabine ran into the back as Adrien pulled his phone from his pocket. Akuma alert, today of all days. Hugo bounced his way back into the store and 'unheavied' his father before calling his transformation. Adrien mirrored the actions becoming Chat Noir and his son Cara-Vert.
"Don't forget to put your shield up as soon as you see the Akuma."
"Yes, Papa." Cara-vert climbed onto his fathers back giving a quick see you later to his grandparents.
Chat Noir launching them both into the area of the Akuma, lowering Hugo, sorry, Cara-Vert onto the nearby rooftop.
"Shell-ter."
The green dome covered Cara-Vert, protecting him from what was to come. The young child smirked to himself, he still had his wand. This was going to be fun.
In a matter of seconds Hugo noticed his Maman and Auntie land next to his papa, each in their superhero costume and frowns on their faces.
"Nino?" Auntie Alya said, sorry, Auntie Rena said.
"It seems Rueben may have been a little too much for him," Chat replied.
"Did he not call you?" Ladybug looked towards Chat Noir.
"Nope, we were just getting treats and, well, here we are now!"
Suddenly a giant teddy bear landed between them as a squeaky egg bounced around the rooftop. Hugo recognised the toys as ones he used to have as a baby, ones he'd passed onto Rueben.
Sneakily, he dropped the shell-ter from over him and made his way to his mother and father. He could take out this villain himself, he had his twig wand. He watched at Auntie Rena made her way over to the akumatised papa, tip toeing past his parents.
As he heard his mother discuss possible akuma points and a far fetched plan, as usual, Hugo snuck forward and towards his akumatised uncle.
"Cara-Vert, no!" Chat shouted, running towards his son.
The Akuma noticed the quick movements of the cat and began sending many childrens toys at him. Flying snapdragons, building blocks, hoops.
"I've got this Kitty Cat!" Hugo responded, holding up his wand and - "heavy!"
Now, as described in the beginning of this story, Adrien Agreste does anything for his children. So here he was in the middle of a battle, dropping his baton onto the floor and struggling to pick it back up.
Hugo laughed, excited that even in superhero form his wand still worked.
"M'Lady, help! My baton is too heavy, I can't pick it up."
"Chat! Now is not the time for this!" Ladybug jumped in front of her partner and began to spin her yo-yo, deflecting the numerous objects being thrown their way.
Chat Noir continued to try and get his baton from the floor as Hugo walked over towards Nino.
"Heavy!" He shouted at the villain.
Rena burst out laughing before indicating the twig.
"Shouldn't it be a feather wand?"
"Some of us are allergic to feathers!" Chat shouted out loud exasperated.
"Heavy!" Hugo shouted again, this time pointing the wand to his father again. Chat abruptly dropped down onto his bottom, shouting for Cara-Vert to 'unheavy' him.
"Are you playing a game?" The Akuma asked.
"Yes, I have a magic wand." The young boy said, before pointing the wand at his father again, "heavy."
Once again, Chat found himself on his back looking up into the eyes of his angry wife.
"Did I ever tell you how beautiful you look when you're angry?"
"Can I play?" The Akuma moved towards Cara-Vert holding out his hand for the wand.
"Nu-er!" He swiftly turned his attention to his auntie. "Heavy!" The wand was pointed at Rena's flute causing her to drop down and 'struggle' to pick it back up.
"Seriously, guys, it's not time to be playing around." Ladybug shouted, launching herself over towards her son and blocking him from any possible attacks.
"I want to play. Heavy me!" The Akuma bounced up and down again excited to maybe join in with the others.
"M'Lady," Chat announced, still lying on his back. "I think it's time you played too."
She looked between the heroes and into the hopeful eyes of her son.
"Fine," she said, "hit me."
Cara-Vert giggled with joy as he zapped his Maman with his magic twig. Ladybug fell onto her bottom instantly, squealing at the force of hitting the floor.
"My turn, my turn." The Akuma was now buzzing with excitement, causing Cara-vert to turn the twig on him.
"Heavy!" The Akuma dropped to the floor, sitting criss-cross applesauce, only to be graced by a purple outline around his face.
"No, I'm playing!" He demanded.
The other heroes watched as Nino fought the Akuma, eventually breaking away from its grasp. The purple bubbles surrounded him and a worn out and beaten papa was left on the ground. He looked around at the heroes surrounding him, and lastly at his wife.
"How much apologising do I need to do?"
Rena stood up and walked over to him, grabbing him by the ear and making him stand up.
"I'll let you know once we arrive home to our two year old who you've left alone!"
Ladybug covered her son's ears from the colourful language leaving his aunt and uncle's mouths as they left the battle zone.
"Good work little man," Chat was holding a thumb up still lying on his back.
Cara-Vert made his way over, jumping on his papa once again.
"Do I get an extra croissant for saving the day?"
"You can have as many as you like, little man."
"I don't think so," both males groaned as their leader and queen made her way over. "Don't start that. You know too much bread makes him constipated."
The guys looked at each other and laughed. Constipated was a funny word.
"I need to get back to the twins, and I will be texting Maman to make sure he doesn't stuff himself with pastries."
Waiting for Ladybug to disappear into the distance, Hugo finally 'unheavied' his father.
"Will grand-mère really stop me from eating too many pastries, Papa?" He asked innocently.
"Probably," Adrien sighed, taking his son on his back and jumping back to the bakery before detransforming. "But your grand-père won't."
The two headed back into the bakery laughing, and Hugo couldn't wait to tell his brother and sister about the best day ever. After all, he'd defeated an akuma and eaten three croissants, four macaroons and a choux bun, the fact he had to drink prune juice for the next week was a mere inconvenience.
