| Car Ride |
I was shaking while putting on my heels, I was beyond nervous to see Shawn today again. I'm hoping he won't be there today, maybe off running errands? I have to find out and see, reaching the top floor, the elevator doors open. I scan the room quickly, no sign of Mendes, I sigh in relief. Walking casually to my desk, taking a seat, and getting to work.
"Yes, if you'd like I can book you an appointment later today,"
I wait for the person to respond, nodding, I book their appointment to meet with Ryan.
"Thank you for choosing, R.C Jones Enterprise!"
I fake happily say, hanging up, I see someone standing in front of my desk. I was so busy with work, glancing up, goosebumps arise.
"Back so soon?"
He nods, smiling wide. Fuck, stop doing that!
"Stop doing what?"
He scrunches his even bushy brows, way to be slick. Turning back around, he stares at me in curiosity. This isn't some highschool crush, Edwina. Get a hold of yourself! My subconscious scolds, I try responding, but my stomach is in my mouth. When I begin to admire his face thoroughly, my mouth ajar.
"I don't have all day, Miss Rodriguez."
Oh, right. Snapping out of my love struck trance, I shake my head, ignoring him.
"How's Isabella doing?"
I stop typing an email on my computer, staring at my nails.
"She's doing well,"
I turn my head to the side.
"She's really happy about you working with me, and for this weekend."
Shawn chuckles behind me, his beautiful voice stabs at my dusty heart strings. Years have I waited for this, and within those years I haven't stopped loving him.
Two Days In Advance
I pace back and forth in my closet, my hands sweaty. Checking my watch for the millionth time, 5:50pm. I run downstairs to our set up dining table, everything was organized and pristine. Isabella was in my living room on her phone, relax Edwina. Deep breaths, my chest rising up and down, I stare at my outfit.
"Honey!"
Isabella comes running.
"You called?"
I frown, looking at my outfit.
"Should I change?"
She has a strained face, I sigh.
"Be honest."
"For Shawn? You could be in a trash bag and he'd still find you perfect. But for now, just throw on your usual outfits. Like a black t-shirt, some skinny jeans, and some slip ons."
Shawn would say that, I nod, kissing her forehead before changing up in my bedroom. Before I know it, my doorbell rings, I was mid-way through putting on my shirt. Quickly, I shove my shirt down, and run to the stairs. I stop, seeing Isabella at the door.
Shawn's POV
After greeting Isabella, I see Edwina begin to slip on the stairs. My eyes widen.
"EDWINA!"
I run to her, before she could fall all the way off, I catch her. Holding her body close to mine, bridal style. She has fear on her face, quickly replaced with embarrassment. She coughs awkwardly, as I set her down on her floor. Isabella runs to us both.
"Mom! Are you okay?"
She raises her eyebrows, widening her eyes, while staring at the ground.
"I'm okay honey, no thanks to your dad here."
She throws me a warm smile, I smile back politely. To think of what might have happened if I didn't make it in time. My heart clenches. She was wearing a basic black t-shirt with jeans, and some slip ons. Her curves showing appropriately, I couldn't help but stare.
I can't believe she married me, this goddess.. married me.
"You can come to the dining room whenever you're ready."
Edwina softly says, my eyes find hers, a slight blush rises on her cheeks. Isabella walks side by side with her, I follow, Isabella has grown so much since the last time I've seen her. Looking at her place, it was spacious, but enough for a family of three. Wait, not three, I mean two... Or did I? Taking a seat across from Isabella, she had a huge smile on her face that I couldn't help but smile.
My beautiful daughter.
"I'll go get the mashed potatoes."
Edwina stands up, walking into the kitchen. There was a large plate full of a rotisserie chicken, and corn. It smelled delicious, grabbing my fork, I begin cutting into it. I was starving.
"You still love mom, don't you?"
I stop cutting, looking at her in a serious gaze. She reciprocates, confident now? I stay silent, getting back to my piece of sliced chicken.
"You're going to get her back, right?"
That's the plan, Isabella. But will I be able too? Knowing how much hurt I caused her, I don't know if she'd forgive. I lick my lips, finally answering her.
"Yes, I do love your mother. Very much. Haven't stopped, and don't plan on too."
I close my eyes, what's taking her so long?
"And I do intend to receive her forgiveness once and for all."
I murmur, biting into my chicken, I moan in satisfaction. I missed her mouth watering meals. Devouring the rest of my plate, Isabella observing me as I did so. Finally, Edwina comes back, setting down a medium sized plate.
"Sorry it took so long, had to clean a few things up."
I shake my head if it was nothing. She smiles at how much of the food she made that I've eaten. I flush of embarrassment.
"You're cooking has always been amazing."
"Thank you, Shawn."
We eat in silence, a comforting feeling. A long missed feeling. I decide to break it.
"So sixth grade now?"
Isabella's head perks up, surprised to my memory. Everyday I've thought about you two.
"Yeah!"
She says happily, Edwina seems to be extremely anxious. I couldn't say I wasn't either.
Edwina's POV
Shawn was asking Isabella a few questions on middle school. I was surprised he remembered what grade she was in now, I'm surprised he's here at all. I rub my temples in anxiousness, Shawn seems to notice.
"You okay?"
I nod, his piercing gaze at my complexion makes me squirm.
"Just worried about work, that's all."
Dinner was finally over, and I was opening my car door. Isabella stayed by Shawn's side, I notice his outfit. He was twinning with me, you've got to be kidding.
"Can Shawn ride with us?"
Isabella asks, I raise my eyebrows, looking up at Shawn. She was practically dragging him to my car, he scratched the back of his head chuckling. Oh, his laugh.
"Sure honey."
To my surprise, he sat in the passenger seat, my body tenses. Isabella gets into the back, I grip the steering wheel. Jeez, he was really close to me. It was an awkward silence, I click on my radio, to ease up the tension.
"And now playing Mercy by Shawn Mendes!"
I widen my eyes, seeing at the corner or my eye, Shawn struggling to not smile.
"What a coincidence."
I mutter, I reach to turn my heater, the same time Shawn reaches for my radio. Shock runs through my arm and to my heart as our hands touched. Shawn felt it too, seeing him slightly flinch. We both stop what we're doing, getting back to driving. And his stare at the road ahead of us.
"Hey, that's you Daddy!"
He smiles wide, turning around.
"I drive through the night just to be near you, baby."
He sings along, his voice matching perfectly to the audio. I glance at Isabella through the mirror, she was so happy. We were all together again, as a family. And it might not have been the most comfortable situation, but we were all together again. And that's all that mattered.
"Heart old and testified, tell me that I'm not crazy."
I respond, Shawn accepts my invitation, his eyes flashing with excitement.
"Please have mercy on me, take it easy on my heart!"
We all sing together, I felt joy. I didn't think this would ever be possible. Yet, here we are. As I stare at Shawn, pausing from our so called singing, he was singing with a passion. His brown hair tousled slightly, a light scruff above his lip. Brown, doe eyes, and structured jawline.
He was just as beautiful as I'd seen him three years ago, this man was the man I married... The happy, and carefree Shawn that loved me and Isabella with all his heart.
