23.Fate Wills it So

The first wedding was humble, to say in words. Of course, after the whole mess with Lorelei, everyone was exhausted. And Loki, well, he had to make up for his part. As burning as they were for each other, they couldn't do the deed till all of Asgard knew of their marriage. Loki took Sigyn for a picnic after he gifted her a horse of her choice. They rode their horses side by side to their picnic spot which was located on a hill under a beautiful golden Gingko tree. They talked about everything big and little from the past, present, and future. Sigyn admonished the fact that Thor was always the one infamous for his libido, where as Loki could be seduced by a simple horse let alone an all powerful witch.

The first wedding was little more than a fancy, family only dinner. There were Odin and Frigga, of course. And Loki and Sigyn. Thor escorted Sif, his fiancée in name, and with her came Heimdall. The goddess Vár had to be present to witness the vows taken by the couple. The evening began with dinner, where various topics were spoken of. Word was, that the tesseract had been activated on Midgard, and Odin had sent spies to keep an eye on it. There was talk of the public wedding, who would be invited into the castle, how the decor would honor both nations, what songs what food and all that.

Dinner wrapped up and anticipation began. Voices hushed and till this moment Thor didn't understand why there were two weddings. Loki and Sigyn snuck glances as everyone waited for Odin to begin.

"Ehem. My dear family, friends. We have gathered this blessed evening, for a special occasion. To celebrate the union between my son, Loki, Prince of Asgard, with the noble Sigyn, Queen Of Vanaheim."

As the couple made their way to the front, Odin took a pause, expecting a scene from his older son, who delivered.

"Queen SIGYN?! Till tonight she was Lady Asta was she not?!" It took a stern admonish from his mother to make him peaceful.

"Yes, Thor. We have hidden Queen Sigyn's identity from the public, which until just now included you." Frigga explained. "Your... personality, makes it impossible for you to keep a secret. And with Her Majesty's safety at risk, we could not risk you knowing."

He was hurt, but not a lot. "A wise decision on your part. But first let me get it out of my system." Thor shook his nerves and turned to his sister in law to be. "Lady As... Sigyn. I'm sure by now you're accustomed to our wedding ways, allow me my vows to you. I've seen you become a blessing for my brother, truly his better half. The better looking half, no less."

That got some laughs, but Thor had more to say. He took Sigyn's hands and took a breath to become serious. "Since your time in our home, I've come to know you as a good friend, and now a sister. I know not what haunts thee, nor what lays ahead for you. But by Odin I vow to thee all the love and protection a brother can grant his sister. And if this one becomes too much for you to bare, then Mjöllnir and I are at your service!"

As Thor laughed and kissed her head to seal his promise, Loki stabbed his brother in protest.

"Ow! Sorry, sorry." Thor cried and offered Sigyn's hand back to Loki before he went to stand by his mother.

Loki didn't say anything for a long moment, only holding her hands tight as if she might slip away.

"Loki..." Odin has to prompt his son further.

"Right." Loki finally said and cleared his throat. "Oaf as he might be, he's not wrong. You have truly been a blessing for me, my Sigyn. I found you just after I lost myself. For reasons yet unknown to me, I started to question my existence, where I belong."

Eyes clouded with tears, neither noticed Frigga and Odin exchange worried glances.

"Then the fates gave me you, the answer to my every question. And suddenly I'm not so alone anymore. Everything that I am, is you. I belong to you, dear Sigyn. If you'll have me."

"When I lost my home, I lost everything. I thought, lucky were they who had passed, and how unlucky I was who stayed."

Moved by her confession, Loki ran a caressing thumb over her cheek, sweeping away a tear.

"And then I was brought into an entirely different world, where I was still the only of me. That does not mean I am ungrateful for everything all of you have done for me. But it was really you, with your tricks and your quirks, who gave me a sense of being. I mourned my world, my throne, my home, but none of that matters not to me. You are my home, Loki. My throne, my world. I take you, Loki, and to thee I give my soul, my life. My heart to keep."

"In witness of the goddess Frigga, the goddess Vár, and all of us present today, I bind you Loki, of Asgard, and Sigyn of Vanaheim, in Holy Matrimony. You may now kiss the bride."

One would've expected the husband and wife to jump at each other, but they did not. For Loki knew the quicker he kissed her, the faster she would be taken away. Still, the two smiled and giggled at each other, and slowly Loki leaned in, gently laying his lips between hers. They didn't kiss messily, only held that one kiss as they breathed deeply and let go slowly. Everyone clapped in applause. The couple turned to face the audience, her one hand held in his as Odin introduced them as husband and wife.

Slowly, Sigyn's hand gracefully slipped from Loki's and he faced her as she distanced herself from him. Sif came upon them and exchanged congratulatory hugs with the new couple then stood off. Frigga too came upon them and hugged and kissed her son's head. Then she did the same to Sigyn before the ladies lead the new bride off, leaving Loki to the men.

Odin congratulated his son first, then Heimdall followed. Thor was saved for last, and he did it with much show.

"As I see it, it's your final night as one of the boys! So what do you say to a one last hurrah as a bachelor, eh brother?!"

"I do not..."

"Oh come on! Would you rather spent the night in agonizing impatience for your bride? Come, I will gather the warriors three and host the most splendid party. You too, Heimdall."

"I could not, my prince. I have duties at the bifrost."

"You best go with them, Heimdall. The queen would sooner murder me, and my party days are well behind me. At least they'll have some supervision, I'm guessing they'll need it. Good night."

"Goodnight!" The boys bid the All father good night and Thor cheered in anticipation of the party.

The boys spent the night at Loki's bachelor party, the girls dreamed of tomorrow and Frigga informed the fearful bride of what to expect on her wedding day and night. And Odin, he spent the night watching over the tesseract. Poor soldier crashed his plane, safe keeping the tesseract from the hands of evil. Sad fate for lovers, Odin thought. The boy had given his life to save the world. He deserved someone beside him when he next awoke, and fate willed it so. And so it would come to be.
