18.Taken
Fury gave the reunited father and daughter as much time as he had the luxury to give, but he was running short. So, with the rest of the avengers busy in the lab upstairs, the director marched on in to talk sense with Loki. No one noticed that the guard on duty had switched shifts.
As difficult as it was for her, Kiera found herself siding with Fury. It finally seemed that Loki would give in when suddenly, something seemed to tick in his mind and he turned, sitting down with a royal poltergeist smile on his face.
"Ooh, the daughter! The last Alynian in all the realms."
"The fuck just happened?" Kiera pondered out loud.
"I thought his eyes were gree- SHIT! He's under his own scepter's control!"
"Great! So, he's not inherently evil!"
Both Thor and Steve would have interrupted, but the two were busy with the rest of the gang arguing the morals of S.H.I.E.L.D wanting to use the tesseract as a weapon.
"I wonder what the celestials would do, should they somehow become aware of your existence?"
Instantly, Loki's eyes flickered; an internal wrestle for control. Loki wasn't too happy with his daughter being threatened, but evidently the blue won over again.
"Your father, he is a fighter. But he will subjugate, as will you all. The great one will be supreme in the end." His ghostly evil tone and that smirk sent chills down her body.
"Come on, dad! Fight it! For me!"
"You plan on releasing the hulk on this ship, but you forget that your daughter is currently in the direct line of fire!"
"Pirate! I have just got my daughter back after a time you could not imagine! If it were up to me, I'd steal her away to Asgard. Away from all this chaos!"
"We're a chemical mixture that makes chaos. We're...we're a time-bomb." Banner ranted upstairs in his lab to the others.
"Doctor, do you need a minute?" Hill asked, worried about his mind and proximity to the scepter.
"Why shouldn't the guy let off a little steam?" Tony came to his defense, resting on Cap's shoulder.
"You know damn well why!" Steve challenged, shrugging his hand away, "Back off!"
"Oh, I'm starting to want you to make me." Tony just got on his tippy toes to be in Steve's nose.
Cap smirked. "Yeah, big man in a suit of armor. Take that off, what are you?"
Tony had an answer ready. "Genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist."
Down below, as Fury and Kiera wasted time trying to bring Loki back, neither noticed the new guard toss some gas balls into the prison cell, releasing some in the bay as well. Outside, an unidentified jet requested docking on the helicarrier, bringing aboard spies.
"Enough. I can't believe I'm saying this, dad. But Fury's right. Please *cough* don't do this. I'm with the go-choke-ood guys, they can-" Kiera grabbed at her throat as her hands flickered from blue to skin and back again.
"Daad!" she gaped as her knees gave way, but Nick quickly caught her.
"Captain!" he shouted for her brother, hoping that he was seeing everything on the big screen, but the comms seemed to be disconnected.
"I was good until you dragged me back into this freak show and put everyone here at risk. You wanna know my secret, Agent Romanoff? You wanna know how I stay calm?"
"Dr. Banner," Steve spoke in command, snapping him out of the daze, "put down the scepter."
Bruce noticed what he'd done and put it down. "Sorry, kids. You don't get to see my party trick after all." Just as Banner walked to his station, computers beeped all over.
"Located the Tesseract?" Thor asked.
"I can get there faster." Cap said, ready to go.
Kiera weakly lifted a hand to point to her father, and Fury saw him having a violent reaction as well.
Nick shook his head, making his way to the control panel to free Loki. Mother fu@&er, he whispered, almost there, but was stopped short with a bullet to his arm. The director immediately ducked and turned, his own gun at the ready as he saw his guard holding a smoking gun.
"Agent Crowe, what the hell are you doing?" Fury yelled to hide his confusion.
Agent Crowe responded with putting up his gun again, and with a smirk said,
"Hail Hydra."
"The Tesseract belongs on Asgard, no human is a match for it." Thor spoke to no one in particular as Tony too headed for the door.
"You're not going alone!" Steve stopped him.
"You gonna stop me?" Tony challenged .
"Put on the suit, let's find out."
"I'm not afraid to hit an old man."
"Put on the suit." Cap said for the last time a second before an explosion rocked the boat.
"Oh, my God. Put on the suit!" Cap requested.
"Yep." Tony obliged.
Downstairs, Crowe managed to get Fury away from the panel and knock him out, then turned to the controls and locked the vents in the cell, trapping Loki with the gas. Sounds of shouting and gun fire began up above the prison hold, and Crowe smiled cunningly at Fury, or at least where Fury had been a minute ago. The traitor frowned and just as he spun to look for Nick, he was met with the bottom side of a fire extinguisher flying at his face, knocking him out.
Finally, Fury got around to at least unlock the vents to the glass cell before a whole mini squad of Hydra agents flanked in. Cut off from the rest, Fury managed the best he could to fend off his enemies and cover the girl, wishing with all his might that the Captain would come for his sister any second now. But, as Kiera lay on the floor turning blue from loss of air and her genetics, her big brother was busy working with Ironman to fix the engines.
Luckily though, her uncle happened by just in time. The God of Thunder threw his hammer, knocking out a good number of invaders as he knelt by his niece and looked over to his brother. He couldn't take the chance to touch her, but swung his hammer at Loki's cell, cracking the glass but not enough. Mjolnir came flying back to Thor, who had the full intention of swinging round two, but got distracted by Hydra agents encircling him. As his attention was divided between fighting and saving his brother, another troupe of Hydra agents snuck in and took away the girl.
