ACT III | SCENE XIII

SPILT MILK

THE HARDER SEOKJIN tried to fight the amusement that threatened to show itself on his face, the more annoyed yoongi got. "just let it out." he glared at the man. seokjin finally burst into laughter he'd been holding in since they left the living room. "i have to say, she's a bit like you. she knows what she wants and is willing to go after it."

the three men were on the verandah of seokjin's home. yoongi was pacing back and forth whilst seokjin and jeongguk sat at the small round table in the space. it had been five minutes already and yoongi hadn't stopped moving around. "hyung, you should sit down." jeongguk spoke up, worry etched on his features.

"i'm about to lose my mind here." yoongi continued to pace, biting on his bottom lip in thought. "why is this happening to me?" he whined out, suddenly stopping. "did you guys see that? she won't stop following me everywhere. and she's called me dad more times in the last two days than i ever called my own father that. and this stupid video that's out there and all the fucking articles— oh, i'm about to go crazy." he pressed his hands to his forehead.

seokjin got on his feet, placing a calming hand on his friend's shoulder. "take a deep breath, yoongi. you need to calm down so we can think rationally about the next step." he said softly, leading the man to one of the cushioned seats.

as soon as he was seated, yoongi placed his arms on the table to cushion his head. "nothing is going right." he bemoaned. "if only miss lee hadn't fallen sick. if i'd just left the grocery shopping for later or gone to a different store."

"but hyung, you can't change the past." jeongguk pointed out, the frown of concern not leaving his face. "as annoying as it is to say, jeongguk is right. you can't keep crying over spilt milk. think instead of what we can do now." seokjin put in with a nod of his head. the two waited for yoongi to respond but he just kept his head buried in his arms.

jeongguk and seokjin glanced at each other before looking at the man again. there was a silent agreement between them to give him some time to get himself together. silence hung in the air as both men patiently waited, the occasional deep breath and body movement punctuating the stillness. jeongguk used the time to appreciate the clean air around seokjin's secluded home and the view of nature, whilst the homeowner responded to messages from his manager.

unmoving, yoongi tried to clear his mind. his lashes fluttered in the artificial darkness he had created within his arms as he attempted a more positive approach in his head. his friends were right. there was no use lamenting over something he couldn't change.

sometimes, fate had other plans that didn't align with his. and it was up to him to work around that and get himself back on track. he just couldn't quite figure out how to go about it just yet. that was the part that frustrated him the most – not being able to think up a single solution to the exceptional fix he'd found himself in.

slowly, he lifted his head, making the two men turn to him almost immediately. "are you feeling better, hyung?" jeongguk asked before seokjin could speak. yoongi nodded in reply. "yeah, i just need to think of a way to get myself out of this mess." he rested his chin in his palm.

"i think i might have found an answer actually." seokjin chimed in with the hint of a smile on his lips. "what is it?" yoongi looked at him with hope glinting in his eyes. "you might not like it though." he added. "just say it, hyung."

seokjin shrugged before straightening. "so i was talking to my manager and i asked him what the best thing to do when there is a scandal without any direct or good solutions for damage control. and he said nothing." his eyes were serious as he said the last word in a flat tone.

"what do you mean nothing? as in do nothing?" yoongi frowned, head tilting to the side. his best friend nodded in affirmation. "yes, do nothing."

yoongi stared at him with brows scrunched in confusion. "how exactly does that help?" he asked. "i don't know why i didn't think of it earlier actually. right now, the best thing you can probably do is to completely ignore the whole thing. don't make a statement denying or affirming. just go about your daily life as if nothing happened until it eventually dies down. as long as it's not something that grievously damages your reputation." seokjin elaborated.

"and this doesn't?" yoongi blinked, tilting his head to the side. "yoongi, having a child isn't a sin." seokjin answered pointedly. "but i don't even have one!" the young ceo threw his hands up. "who cares? you're the one who said you didn't care what anyone thought as long they were not an important part of your life." seokjin countered.

"fine," he huffed. "but isn't this 'do nothing' tactic something that only works in show business?" he queried. "no, it works for everything." jeongguk suddenly spoke up with a shake of his head. "people are generally fickle. if you don't make a big deal about this or feed the fire, they'll eventually lose interest. and they'll move on because, pretty soon, there will be another hot topic of gossip for them to sink their teeth into." he explained.

"would you look at that? his brain actually works." seokjin remarked with mild amusement. jeongguk's features pulled in a frown at the backhanded compliment. he glanced at yoongi hopefully.

"hyung, stop bullying my secretary." yoongi repeated the words he had said countless times. "tell him to grow up." seokjin responded easily. yoongi just let out a sigh, shaking his head. his gaze moved up.

"so we figured out the media problem. what about the one with the six-year-old in your living room?"
