ACT XI | SCENE LI
❝BUSY❞
DISTRACTEDLY FIDDLING WITH the silver ring he had taken off his finger, yoongi waited for the director of daisy to arrive. he looked up at the clock hanging on the wall and slipped the ring back on. only a few minutes before the man was due to arrive. though he wasn't alone, he was distracted enough to feel like he was.
softly pushing his hair out of his eyes, he glanced up at the sound of a knock. "president," jeongguk peeked in, "the director has arrived." he smiled softly. yoongi pushed himself up at that, the rest of his team following suit. "lead him here." he responded.
it was only a minute before jeongguk returned with the man in tow, and he seemed to command the room when he walked in. dressed in a pristine black suit and heeled black dress shoes, he looked every bit like the director of a large company. but the notable silver hoops that sat comfortably in his earlobes and his styled, black hair that had grown way past the standard length indicated some level of eccentricity and nonconformity. it was these parts that yoongi appreciated – particularly the earrings.
the man stretched out a hand when their eyes met, approaching him. "hello, president min." he smiled. it was warm, reaching his eyes in creasing crescents. "hello, director park. glad you could make it." yoongi took his hand in a firm shake, letting an easy smile grace his features.
the director brushed a hand through his dark locks. much like yoongi, his fingers were adorned with rings, though his were significantly more. "i'm glad to be here. i always love the ambience of your office." nodding with a small smile, yoongi gestured for him to take a seat.
park jimin had a certain charisma to him; one that trickled out of him, no matter what he did. be it walking or sitting. yoongi always wondered if it stemmed from his brief stint as a model before taking up the position of director or if it just came naturally to him. if he had to hazard a guess, it would be the latter. after all, jimin came from a family of affluence, though yoongi felt he would have grown with natural grace either way.
they had met a few times before jimin had taken control of daisy, whenever he and seokjin had a shoot together and yoongi went to visit. so they were already acquainted when daisy officially solicited their services in creating an app for the clothing company.
jimin looked at him expectantly and yoongi pressed his lips in a half smile. "we may begin."
•••
yoongi and jimin made their way out of the conference room. "i cannot wait for the official launch of the app. it's amazing." the younger of the two men said, an excited lilt in his voice. "thank you, jimin. i'm glad you liked it."
"you'll be attending the anniversary gala, right hyungnim? you can't miss the official launch." jimin looked at him enthusiastically. yoongi had to smile. now that they were outside of official settings, there was less formality in their conversation. there was certainly a bright energy about jimin that he liked. despite being saddled with such an important and burdensome role, he managed to maintain that youthful vibrance of his personality. much like seokjin. "of course, i wouldn't miss it."
"can you bring jin hyung too?"
"well, i'll certainly try. as long as he isn't engaged with some shoot or still outside the country." he replied. "if he's in the country, he has to be there. if he doesn't show up, i'll personally drag him by the collar." jimin quipped as they approached the elevator. "and you'll get yourself a beating." yoongi chuckled. "will be worth it." jimin's plump lips pushed out in a pout.
"besides, aren't i too cute to be hit?" he rounded his eyes and pushed his lips out even more. the innocent duckling look he had was unmistakable despite his pristine appearance. yoongi let out another chuckle, pushing the button for the elevator. "i guess you are." he softly patted the younger man on the shoulder. "jin has a strong resistance though." he added, thinking of seokjin chasing a doe-eyed jeongguk around with threats.
the elevator doors slid open. "we'll see about that." one corner of jimin's mouth lifted in a small smirk. he stepped into the elevator. "we should have lunch sometime soon, hyungnim." he said as he pushed a button for the lobby. "of course, jimin. call me when you're ready." yoongi answered with a smile. "bye! have a good day." jimin waved as the doors began to close. "you too, jimin." yoongi lifted his hand in a quick wave before the doors shut.
•••
yoongi glanced at his watch just as jeongguk poked his head in. it was near closing time. "ah, gukkie, before i forget." he reached into his pocket as the secretary approached. "tell the team to go have a celebratory dinner. of course, that includes you." he handed over a small rectangle. jeongguk took it, recognising it as the company card.
his eyes moved from the card to the man in front of him. "what about you, hyung?" he asked. "oh, i'm not going." yoongi waved a hand dismissively. "i have something i need to start working on. plus, don't the staff feel more comfortable when the boss isn't at a gathering?" he grinned.
jeongguk looked like he wanted to say something but he only pressed his lips in a thin line. "don't worry. i plan on taking my work home." yoongi said, guessing the boy's concern. he closed the journal he was writing in and flipped his tablet shut. "i'll be clocking off soon."
the relief jeongguk felt was visible. sometimes, he was such an open book and yoongi didn't need to try hard to figure out what he was thinking. "okay, hyung."
"have a good time, kid." yoongi said, beginning to pack up. "get home safe, hyung." jeongguk smiled. "mhm," the older man waved.
just as the door shut behind jeongguk, his phone began to ring. he glanced down at it and picked up as soon as he read the contact name. "hello?"
"good evening, mr min. i hope i'm not calling at a bad time." rian's familiar voice filtered through the phone. "it's fine. i was just getting ready to leave the office. is everything okay?" he answered with ease. "yeah! yes, haneul just wanted to talk to you. she says she has something important to ask. and to be honest, i am kind of curious myself."
he smiled softly and leaned back in his chair. "alright." he said. "i'll give her the phone, then." rian's voice was followed by shuffling and then another voice. "hello, daddy?"
"hi, little one. how are you?" his lips curled up even more. "i'm fine!" haneul answered chirpily. "that's good to hear." he remarked. "what about daddy? how are you?" she asked. "i'm very well. thank you for asking." he chuckled lightly. "good! so?" she quipped. "so?" yoongi echoed, eyebrows drawing together in confusion.
"you said you were showing your fashion friend that thing! did he like it?"
"ah!" yoongi's eyes widened in understanding. it had skipped his mind that he'd mentioned the app to haneul. and the fact that she remembered not only the information but the day was amazing in and of itself. "yes, he really liked it. he was very happy actually."
"yay!" she cheered and he was certain he heard clapping and a gasp from rian; and he guessed the little girl had forgotten she was holding a phone to her ear. he pressed his lips together to keep from laughing. moments like this one, he was reminded that she was still very much a child. "i'm proud of you, daddy." she said after another moment of shuffling. "thank you, little sunflower." he grinned.
"will you have more time now?"
"hm, a little? i still have lots of work but a bit less than before."
"hmm, you're very important, right?"
"why do you ask?"
"important people are always very busy."
yoongi's brows went up in surprised curiosity and then his lips curved softly. a child she was; but a child that made quite fascinating and incredibly intelligent comments. "yes. but they always make time for the people in their life." he responded. "so, you'll make time for me?" she asked delicately, making him wonder if she was nervous. his answer came without a second thought.
"always."
the smile was practically audible in her voice. "okay. me too." she chirped. "um, i have to go do my homework, now. have a good day, daddy!"
"alright. you too, little one. take care of yourself, hm?" he said. "mhm!" she replied and then she was gone. rian was back a second later. "hello?" she said. "i also wanted to say congrats on a successful deal."
he took a deep breath in relief at the thought of the app. "thank you, miss son." he replied. "i think we're close enough for you to call me rian." she remarked almost immediately as though she'd been waiting for a chance just to let him know. he chuckled lightly at the very idea. "very well, miss... rian. you can call me yoongi as well."
"good. nice. well, i'll let you get home, now. have a good evening, mr m—" she stopped and cleared her throat, "...yoongi." she sounded somewhat awkward, stumbling over his name, obviously unaccustomed to calling him by his first name. another amused smile. "you too, rian. get some rest."
it was definitely going to take some getting used to. being on a first-name basis.
