Chapter 2 of my new book 'Orphic' is updated go check it out if haven't already😀
"Afeerah!!" Someone barged in her office startling her. She wasn't expecting any patients during this time neither any sort of loud noise as she enjoyed her quite time reading through some patients reports.
The file shut close upon her jumping in fright. Afeerah glared at her friend. Vashma sat infront of her desk occupying one of the seats.
"What?" She scoffed after recovering from the miniature heart attack her fellow doctor has given her.
"Guess who's joined our hospital?!" Vashma exclaimed like a child making Afeerah roll her eyes. She went back to reading her file.
"Who?" She asked calmly studying the reports. The patient needed surgery but his unstable condition was not suitable for surgery.
"Dr. Burhan sheikh" vashma gushed over the new doctor who joined their hospital. She went on and on about how handsome he is and how he looks like a model straight out of a magazine.
Afeerah's eyes stilled and so did her heart. Momentarily she heard those whispers which taunted her for falling for a man like. She shut her eyes close feeling the buried nightmares come back alive.
"Umhmm" she hummed not being able to comprehend as to how she should react. She knows for sure she doesn't feels for him. Her heart only beats for Shahzar and the thought itself brought a shy smile on her face.
"We all are going to th nearby cafe for coffee with the new doctor would you join us?" Vashma asked but without thinking Afeerah declined.
"Um... Vashma. Yaar I have to go through these reports I don't really have time. Maybe next time" she said with a small smile on her face. Vashma's smile faltered but she nodded reluctantly. She left from there and Afeerah at once called Ashar in her room.
"Everything ok?" He asked barging in the room like a drama king he was.
"Did you know Burhan was joining our hospital?" She asked in a serious voice. The change of expressions on Ashar's face told her he knew very well. His face morphed into hate and disgust but also guilt.
"Why didn't you tell?" She asked calmly joining her hands on the table.
"I didn't want to you even think about that man afee. You have Shahzar Bhai no need to corrupt your mind by even thinking he's around. This may not make but just don't let him get between you and Shahzar Bhai" he said placing his hand on hers. She nodded in affirmation. She doesn't know if he's the same man he was before but whatever he is now she must maintain distance and even warn Shahzar about him.
They discussed the reports and shared their thoughts on it since they both were handling the case. Burhan was an ignored topic as she busied herself in her work. After long tiring hours she was going towards the parking lot when a voice stopped her. She turned around coming face to face with him. Burhan sheikh. The man she had fallen for. The man for whom a night with girls meant everything rather than her heart.
"Afeerah?" He said unsure. Why would he be sure she meant nothing to him.
"Yes?" she raised an eyebrow curiously.
"You remember me right? I'm Burhan. Your Burhan" he said desperately taking her hands in his. She knew who he was, she ignored his your Burhan statement and took her hands out of his. A frown etched her face as she looked around to see if Shahzar was here or not.
"Yes I remember your Minha's cousin if I'm not mistaken" she smiled politely. Burhan frowned hearing her statement.
"I.. uh.. yeah. I didn't know you worked here but then vashma mentioned you and Ashar so I had to meet you" he said scratching the back of his neck.
"Hm.. it was nice meeting you but my husband's here to pick me up" she grinned widely waving at Shahzar who stood leaning on his car.
"You..... You're married?" He stuttered following her gaze.
"Yes. I would've invited you if I had known you were here. Ohh well. Allah Hafiz" she smiled walking towards Shahzar. He stood straight and forwarded his hand for her. She said her Salam and placed her hand in his. He kissed her knuckles replying to her salam.
"For my lady" Afeerah giggled taking the small rose bouquet from him thanking him. He opened the door for her. Afeerah chuckled at his gentleman tactics. He rounded the car and sat down in the driver's seat.
Burhan was left astonished as he stared at the car rolling out of the parking lot. He took out his phone and dialed the number of the person because of whom he was here.
"You didn't tell me she's married" he seethed in the phone.
"Who cares? You can have her like you always wanted and I'll have Shahzar after he leaves that good for nothing Afeerah" Minha scoffed in reply. The cousin duo discussed about how they were going to execute their plan and how they will break the happily married couple.
Meanwhile Shahzar and Afeerah were peacefully driving home, comfortable silence cloaked them as they listened to the song playing on the radio. Shahzar decided to finally ask the question that had been bugging him since he saw the guy hold her hand. He didn't doubt Afeerah he was just curious as to who that man was.
"Jaan" he said softly taking her hand in his. She her attention from the scenery to him. She grinned at him holding his hand tightly.
(Love)
"Jee?" She asked smiling. His heart skipped a beat at her beautiful smile. He kissed the back of her hand making her turn red and look down at the flowers in her lap.
(Yes?)
"Who was with you in the parking lot?" He had tried asking softly but his possessiveness could be felt by his hold tightening around her hand.
"Ohh.. that's.... Dr Burhan" she said looking away. She didn't know how to explain everything to him. Bringing up your ex infront of your husband is not the wisest thing to do.
"Umhm.. was... He your friend? I... I mean do you guys know eachother from before?" He hesitated before asking anything straight m he didn't want to sound intimidating or overly possessive but he couldn't help but feel bothered by someone else holding her hand.
"Uh... He's Minha's cousin" she tightening her hold around his hand feeling anxious. She didn't want to bring her past experiences up right now when she clearly doesn't sees a red flag. He could've coincidentally gotten a job in the hospital she works at, what else could it be?.
"Hmm" he hummed taking an opposite making Afeerah furrow her eyebrows.
"Where are we going?" She asked turning towards him.
"We are going for dinner and then I'm taking you to my house" he said taking yet another turn.
"Your house?" She asked astonished. Her eyes were wide and a smile plastered on her face.
"Yes. I just realized you don't even know how our actual house looks like. After all you should see if you want to do any changes before we shift there." he said focusing on the road. She looked at him in confusion. She didn't realize she'll have to leave her parents and brothers and shift with him in his house.
"What's wrong?" He asked pulling over at the side. He turned towards her and cupped her face. Concern etched his face seeing a frown on her face.
"I.. I didn't realize I'll have to leave my house and family behind and move in with you" she whispered looking down at her hand. Moisture gathered I'm the corner of her eyes as she sniffed. Shahzar was quick to remove his seatbelt and turn completely towards her. He took her face in his hand and made her face him.
"Janan. Udaas mat ho jab aap kahen hi me lekar aajaya karon ga aapko Mamo jaan ke pass" he said softly caressing her cheeks with his thumbs while his fingers settled under her jaw making her look in his eyes.
(Love. Don't be sad. Whenever you'll say I'll bring you back to meet uncle)
"Magar Kia hum waheen Sab ke saath haveli me nahi reh sakte?" She whispered in a small voice. Shahzar's eyes softened seeing her sulken expression.
(But can't we live there with everyone else in the haveli)
"Um... Let's just go check the house out today then the last decision will be yours. Ok? Now show me that cheeky grin." He said caressing her cheek as she grinned happily. A smile spread on his own lips seeing her smile. He pecked her lips catching her off guard making her eyes go wide as cheeks turn crimson, her smile ceased as she turned to look the other way making him chuckle at her. She hid her face in the flowers he gave her hiding the shy smile the decorated her face.
They are their dinner in a lavish restaurant and then they were on their way to Shahzar house. It was a house designed to give it a modern look. It was different and smaller than the grand haveli but it had a cozy feeling to it. There was a huge garden in the front with boundary drawn around it to give some privacy, a long driveway then came the house itself. Large glass windows opened in the garden. Shahzar unbolted the front wooden door as he lead her inside. He turned on the lights making a gasp escape Afeerah's lips. The house was much bigger on the inside than it looked from outside. The small living room that could seen from the glass window was just a sitting corner. It was large hall like loby, to it's right was the small sitting area with a cozy fireplace. Up front the grand hall with a beautiful chandelier hanging from the ceiling. Under it was a glass table which had candles and vases decorating it. To the left was a grand staircase that lead to the upper portion of the house. Afeerah's have was touching the ground basically as she gawked at beautiful house. Shahzar chuckled at her childish expression wide eyes and open mouth; he placed two finger under her chin and closed her mouth making her turn red with embarrassment.
"This is your house?" She asked after recovering from the small shock. Shahzar nodded moving behind her.
"Yes. Our house" he said standing behind her. He snaked his arms around her waist pulling her to himself and placing his chin on her shoulder bending down.
"Come. I'll show you the rest of the house" he said kissing her shoulder making her shudder. He showed her the kitchen which was much like the house luxurious and beautiful, there were about three to four room apart from the master bedroom.
Afeerah gasped as she stepped inside the master bedroom. The double doors opened in to a grand room with a huge door separating a small sitting room with the actual bedroom. In the middle was thr living room, on the left the doors lead to the bedroom and to the right were two for probably closet and bathroom. A large glass wall was right infront of the main entrance door of the room. Afeerah ran into the bedroom and jumped on the bed. It was soft and comforting. She felt herself drowning in the softness of her sheets and the mattress.
"That's it I'm moving in right now" she mumbled hugging one of the pillows. Shahzar laid down beside her and propped himself on his elbow as he gazed at her beautiful face.
"I have no problem" he whispered slowly leaning over her. Her opened her eyes but her breath hitched seeing him on top of her. Her eyes widened as he smirked at her red blushing face. She bit her lip feeling her breathing get ragged. Her eyes were getting hazy as his breath fell on her lips. Her lips parted on their own while he took her hand and rounded them around his neck discarding the pillow from in between them.
"Uh.. Shahzar.." she tried pushing him off of her but hearing his name from her breathy voice was enough for him to crash his lips on hers. Her back arched as he kissed her deeply and passionately making her front flush against his. Her arms tightened around his neck while her hands roamed the lengths of his luscious and soft black hair. His one hand caressed her jaw and neck while the other held his weight off of her.
He pulled away tugging her lower lip between his teeth making her moan softly. Her face was flushed and breathing hard.
"That was out worldly" he whispered in her neck trailing butterfly kisses on her neck and shoulder making her squirm in her place because of her ticklishness.
"Don't" he warned holding her waist in his firm grip. Her movement stopped as his hold tightened, she looked in his eyes to see them darkened. He looked like a sexy devil with his hair all messy and eyes dialated. His breath fanned her neck tickling it making her bite her lip. He let himself fall beside her. They both turned on their sides facing eachother. Shahzar caressed her earn pink cheeks making her lean into his touch. He rubbed her lower lip with his thumb freeing it from the clutches of her teeth.
"Can I ask you something?" He whispered into the silence of the night.
"Hm." Afeerah hummed in response still in a daze.
"Can you... Can you stay away fro that doctor. Minha's cousin. I didn't like him holding your hand this hand is only mine to hold" he said the last part possessively taking her hand in his kissing it.
"You're right I also didn't like it. I promise it won't happen again" she said lowering her lashes. Guilt was somehow taking over her heart.
"No need to promise anything. Just he didn't give me the right impression. I trust you fully" he said pulling her close to his chest as he hugged her. She snuggled close to him and inhaled his masculine scent.
"I love you" she mumbled in his chest closing her eyes wrapping her arms around him. His breathing hitched hearing her confession, a beautiful smile lit up his whole face as he pulled her close kissing the crown of her head.
"I love you too." He said running his fingers in her hair. She sighed in pleasure as he undid her messy bun.
"If you keep going I'll end up falling a sleep" she mumbled lowly. He smiled pulling her face towards him.
"So who cares you're in you husband's house and arms no one can object" he said pulling her up so that he rested his head on the pillow and her on his arm.
She smiled making dimples appear on her cheeks, shrugging her shoulders she snuggled close to him and fell a sleep. He kept on gazing at her sleeping form. His mind roamed around what Minha said about Afeerah. He refused to believe anything she says. He can't let a single doubt in his relationship with his Afeerah. He didn't realize when he fell a sleep but he ended up dozing off. He woke up on the sound of his phone ringing.
"Yeah.. Ashar" he slipped out of bed placing Afeerah's head carefully on thr pillow and went to the attached living room to answer Ashar's call.
"Where are you guys? Baba is asking about Afeerah" Ashar whisper yelled. Shahzar's eyes went to his wrist watch. His eyes widened seeing the time. It was after midnight around two.
"I went to pick her up then we went for dinner and then I brought her over at my place" he told him truthfully. Ashar scrunched his face hearing that.
"Why?" He asked.
"I wanted to show her our house before we shift here. She was really tired and ended up falling a sleep. I didn't find it necessary to wake her up" he said in a matter of factly way.
"Ok but what do I tell Baba?" He asked annoyed. Shahzar thought for a moment as to what they should tell the elder.
"Just tell them what I told you, we'll come home tomorrow morning I'm not waking her up" he said looking at her who was sleeping peacefully in his bed. He felt happy and content at the moment. His once lifeless house was going to become a home......
