R&N 3.

So you know it was getting quite confusing for me to differentiate which chapter was being commented or voted on so I'm putting the initials of the characters in the beginning. I don't think it was something important to tell but kia fark parta hai😂😂

Dil chaha aaj kuch likh lia jaye
tu agaye hum ek naye mehfil sajane.

Shair by yours truly😀

The evening shadowed the haveli with its prominent blue and pink hues. The soft plushy white clouds were turning a little pink with the crimson rays of the nearly setting sun. The guest have arrived and were now seated in the grand drawing room filled with antique pieces of home decor. The round Afghani carpet made the room look like a royal darbar of a mughal shahensha.

Nausheen was busy greeting her sister and her husband as they all seated in the drawing room. Atif Shah was as always somewhere in the house. He was not a fan of his wives relatives. Apart from his ego they carried a sense of cheapness around them that had him cringing at every encounter. He kept a strict eye on Narmeen when they were around making sure not to leave her alone in the presence of that idiot nephew that his wife gushes over. He may not be expressive or lenient but he had his fair share of care in his heart that he was just so utterly strict to show or maybe it was the way his wife had moulded him like. From childhood there was something between the father and daughter that kept them reserved and separated.

It was nausheen who had kept the father and daughter away from each other. Atif used to adore his children but it was nausheen's mind set and upbringing that had her thinking that it was necessary to be strict on daughters and that fathers should not speak in the matter of daughters and that they should stay reserved. She made him the self centered man he is today. Not like Atif wasn't egoistic it was just nausheen who never let him interfere in any matter related to his own daughter. Her words being "betion ke mamlaat ka maaon ko zayada ilm hota hai. Aap mat para kijiye in mamlaat me" (mothers know well about daughters. You don't interfere in these matters)

Nausheen never let her daughter mingle with her father. Seeing the other girls of the family she couldn't help but judge their mothers upbringing on how freely and loudly they spoke or how they mingled with their male cousins. Narmeen was told to keep distance which she upto some extent did. She knew her daughter had the admiration for Rameez in her gaze and that's why she wanted to marry her off to her sisters son Hatim, though she would have to go through hell to make Atif understand but she had always been a manipulator.

She attended her guests while Narmeen was ordered to prepare tea and snacks for the guest, as much as Narmeen wanted to add poison in Hatim's tea she refrained only thinking about the punishment she will have to face for murder.

Much to her mothers dismay she had changed into a more simple dress. Hatim was not worth her special singhar Narmeen concluded. Dressed in a similar peach colored kurti with white trouser and peach matching dupatta

"Agar mujhe ek khoon maaf hojaye tu isse Hatim ka gala daba ke maar don isse" Narmeen gritted her teeth as she slouched on the chair besides Merzia. Merzia came to help her out but Narmeen was busy fuming over her cousin who was oh so shamelessly passing her weird looks when she went to greet her Khala. He had tried to hug her but she expertly dodged the bullet and ran off to the kitchen.
(If I was given a chance to kill just one person I would choke that Hatim to death)

"Hosla rakhen, aap jail chali gaye tu Rameez se shaadi kon kare ga" Merzia casually stated resisting the urge to smirk at the sudden blush that covered Narmeen rukhsar.
(Hold your horses if you go to hail who's going to marry Rameez?)

"Haan tu aap rehai dilwa den gi na. Itni mashoor lawyer hain" Narmeen said giving her Chachi a side glance.
(Do you'll bail me out. Afterall you're a famous lawyer)

"Pehle aap ek cockroach maar len phir Hatim ke qatal ke mansoobe banaye ga" Merzia mocked her soft and fragile hearted niece who wouldn't even kill an insect without feeling heaps of guilt.
(First you kill a cockroach then make plans of killing Hatim)

"Aap apne Abu se kion Rameez ke mutaliq baat karti. Woh strict zaroor hain magar ek beti ke maamle me baap kabhi zayada der tak strict nahi rehte" Merzia said. She knows that nausheen is intentionally being oblivious to her daughter's suffering, her dislike for Atif's family are coming in Narmeen's way to love.
(Why don't you talk to your father related to Rameez. He's strict for sure but for his daughter a father can never be too hard)

"Kia kahon me. Seedha besharmon ki tarah tu nahi keh sakti na ke Abu me Rameez se—" Narmeen's words were cutoff by the loud sound of her mother who was calling her to serve the snacks. Narmeen took the tray from the counter and made her way to the drawing room.
(What will I say. I can't just shamelessly tell him about Rameez—)

Rameez came down stairs to fetch himself a glass of water and something to eat. He had been locked up in his room ever since the incident that took place in the kitchen. He couldn't get the scenario out of his head nor could his hand stop tingling. His palm still felt as if her soft hand was placed in it. It felt jittery. He couldn't wrap his head around the whole situation. He was shocked to see himself loose control and act as a teenager who never in his life had seen a girl. Girls threw themselves at his feet just to beg for a single glance bit he never paid heed to them and now his heart wanted a certain pair of brown orbs to be trained to his blue ones. He shook his head violently trying to get that disturbing thought out of his head but stopped dead in his tracks when he heard two different voices conversing in the kitchen about how to kill someone. He wanted to ignore it but then the mention of his name had his curiosity spiked.

"Hosla rakhen aap jail chali gaye tu Rameez se shaadi kon kare ga" he heard his Merzia Baji's voice say. Who was marrying him and why? He thought.

"Haan tu aap rehai dilwa den gi na. Itni mashoor lawyer hain" he heard a soft voice whine. Bending a little forward he saw the voice belonged to the brown eyed cousin that he had been really thinking of lately.

"Aap apne Abu se kion Rameez ke mutaliq baat karti. Woh strict zaroor hain magar ek beti ke maamle me baap kabhi zayada der tak strict nahi rehte" he heard Merzia say. Why did Narmeen and to talk to his Atif Chacho about him. He couldn't grasp a word they were saying. Be really waited for her to reply but when she did his Chachi interrupted making him roll his eyes at her loud voice.

"Kia kahon gi me. Seedha besharmon ki tarah tu nahi keh sakti na ke Abu me Rameez se—" Narmeen's words came out soft slow but also frustrated. He really wanted to know what was left behind but he didn't want to know also. His heart was saying one thing and his brain was saying one thing. His heart was making scenarios that he was guaranteed would never happen but his brain was trying to convince him that whatever he was thinking is not true and a stupid thought.

He saw Narmeen leaving the kitchen with a tray in her hands. She walked to the drawing while he walked in the kitchen. He saw Merzia leaning on the counter eating an apple while using her phone. He wanted to ask her but then his hesitation got the best of him and decided to let it go for now.

"Kia hua aap yahan kion bethi hui hain?" He said plopping on the chair previously occupied by Narmeen.
(What happened why are you sitting here?)

"Narmeen kitchen me akeli thi tu hum  company dene aagaye waise hi bore horahe the" she said leaning back on the backrest of the chair.
(Narmeen was alone in the kitchen so I thought why not give her company besides I was getting bored)

"Ohh acha agar aap bura na mane tu please mujhe kuch khaane keliye deden buhat bhook lag rahi hai" Rameez said to her. Merzia nodded and put gage him the extra snacks that Narmeen had fried.
(Ohh if you don't mind please give me something to eat I'm starving)

As Rameez ate he conversed with Merzia about the new case she was handling for the richest and most influential woman of Pakistan and almost the world, she was the ruler of fashion industry as many have heard. It was serious case and being the professional lawyer Merzia was, she didn't share much about it.

Narmeen sat with her mother in the drawing room. She served everyone tea. Hatim gave her weird looks that had her cringing inwardly. She forwarded the cup to him holding the saucer from the very edge so that she could just retrieve her hand but to her dismay he took a hold of her hand. Disgust filled her being as she tried to retrieve her hand but that ended in the tea spilling over him.

Hatim hissed in pain as the burning hot tea seeped through his shirt onto his skin burning his being. He stood up pulling his shirt away from his body and tried to fan the burning skin. He stood a good foot taller than Narmeen as she stood infront of him with relief and triumph filling her being. It took all in her to not burst out laughing even when Hatim and her Ammi glared at her. Her happiness was short lived as nausheen told Narmeen to take him to the guest washroom to get cleaned up.

Narmeen controlled the urge to either slap a smirking Hatim across the face. Keeping the scream of frustration in her chest she guided him to the guest washroom down the hallway away from the drawing room.

Finding themselves away from the elders eyes Hatim pushed Narmeen against the wall. A sudden gasp resounded in the hallway upon Hatim's wrong approach. Narmeen tried to break free from his hold but he twisted her hands behind her back. She squirmed and hit his leg with the tip of her pumps but he didn't budge.

"Pehle tu sirf apni sard mehri se mera dil jalaya karti thi. Aaj tu jism me bhi aag laga di" he said biting his lips and leaning forward. His eyes held the disgusting desire she wished she hadn't seen.
(First you used to make my heart burn with your cold attitude and now you've even made my body ache)

"Choro mujhe" Narmeen said loudly trying hard to get out of his hold.
(Leave me)

"Abhi tu haath aaye ho aise kaise. aur ab poori zindagi keliye apne pass hi qaid rakhon ga" he said nuzzling his face in the crook of her neck. Tears bubbled in her eyes which soon started trailing down. She thrashed in his hold but he only sunk his teeth in her neck making her yelp in pain.
(If just now gotten you and keep you for the rest of your life)

"Hatim peeche hato" Narmeen freed her hands and pushed him but he grabbed her dupatta pulling it forcefully, the dupatta ripped from the middle forming a big hole in the net dupatta.
(Hatim leave me)

Narmeen ran to the other side but bumped into someone. Feeling the sense of warmth she hid herself in the persons chest. Her tears were flowing uncontrollably, her body shook with each sob that escaped her lips. Bruises formed on her wrist and her neck where he had ferociously bitten her.

Atif was in his study when he heard a commotion outside. He went outside and followed the sound of his daughter's voice down the hallway the sight infront of him had his blood raging in his veins. A man had Narmeen pinned against the wall, his face hidden in her neck.

"Hatim peeche hato" he heard Narmeen's raging voice as she pushed him away from her running off blindly in his direction and bump into him. She didn't move away but instead hid her self in his chest. Atif for the first time in his life hugged his daughter to his chest.

"Narmeen" he called her placing his hand on her head. Narmeen looked up and broke into more fits of uncontrollable sobs.

"Abbu" she cried hugging him. Atif felt as if hell fell on his shoulders seeing his daughter cry. Guilt started building up in his being but soon turned into rage for the reason of the man standing infront of him.

Hatim turned around to cone face to face with a raging Atif. His heart billed up in his throat as he gazed at his uncle standing infront of him.

Atif took slow steps towards Hatim who took steps back in fear of what this old man would do.

"S..she forced herself on me" Hatim tried to blame Narmeen who was crying hysterically.

Atif unexpectedly punched Hatim. No matter how reserved he was but he was a man of the Shah family one wrong look in their women's direction and you'll face your death sooner than expected. A fight took place in between the two man. Hatim landed a punch on the old mans face making him stumble back.

"Abu" Narmeen shrieked making everyone in the drawing room and the house to rush over to them. She tried to separate the two men but she couldn't. The men of the house had then pulled away. Atif was spewing profanities at Hatim while blamed everything on  Narmeen.

"Yeh jhoot bol raha hai. Abu mene aisa kuch nahi kia" Narmeen cried hysterically as Merzia embraced her.
(He's lying I didn't do anything)

"Kion jhoot bol rahi ho. Tumne jaan boojh kar mujhpe chai giraye thi aur phir yahan lakar—" he couldn't complete his sentence as Rameez punched him hard. He stumbled back from the impact.
(Why are you lying you spilled the tea on me purposely and then after bringing me here—)

"Zaban sambhal ke baat kar" Rameez roared in rage. He was about to beat him to pulp but Zalaan and Faris held him back. His insides were churning in anger and disgust as he gazed at the man trying to blame an innocent soul. His eyes went to Narmeen who was crying while explaining herself to her mother who was silent all the while.
(Watch you mouth)

Nausheen's sister slapped Narmeen when she tried to explain herself while bad mouthing her character.

"We came here to make her our honour, our daughter in law but who will marry a girl like her" her aunt had yelled and dragged her husband and son out of the house.

Atif and Nausheen had a massive fight over the issue. Merzia and Zalaan were silently laying in their room thinking over the incident that took place in the house. The kids were forced to sleep early. The house was quite. The silence creeped the residents to their core.

Narmeen locked herself in her room. Merzia had begged her to atleast eat something but she didn't open the door. She kept sitting on the floor her back against the foot of the bed. Her hair disheveled. Her eyes shedding tears silently. Her cheek ached with every movement. The bruises on her wrist mocked her of her helplessness.

Atif had come to her doorstep but couldn't muster up the courage to go inside. He couldn't believe his wife who was ready to marry his daughter off to a man like him. He felt immense guilt, he only questioned himself. He cried throughout the night for being a horrible father. He was supposed to be her support system but here he was being an idiot.

Nausheen stayed awake staring at the wall. She felt hollow inside. The void in her chest was sucking her in the endless pits of remorse and guilt. She had always ignored Narmeen's complains thinking of it as the way of Hatim showing his interest she couldn't have thought her own nephew was a man if such character.

Rameez was awake thinking over what had happened. Narmeen's tear stricken face refused to leave his mind. Her bruised cheek and neck made him feel a new type of anger coursing through his veins. He punched his punching bag harder taking his frustration out on it. He was panting and sweating profusely. The hot summer night had him feeling suffocated in his room. He left his room to go to the roof top. He stopped midway seeing her door closed. The lights off and dead silent. He felt a need to go in their but he refrained knowing his presence was not needed. He made his way back to his room and plopped down on the mattress waiting to pass out from exhaustion.

He didn't realize when he slept but the next time he opened his eyes was when the sun shined brightly in his eyes. He looked at the time which just a few minutes before breakfast. The breakfast past in silence, Narmeen was not present there. He kept on glancing at the doorway or either her chair which was empty.

A few weeks later.........

This went on for days that soon turned into weeks. Narmeen refused to eat anything or even come out of her room. She felt embarrassed. How will I face everyone and him she thought and stayed locked up. She had allowed Merzia in her room only. She was the only one she was comfortable with. Her father came to her a few later and had apologized for hus oblivious behaviour and she had hugged him tightly. He reciprocated the gesture. He cried infront of her that he took so long to come to his senses. She forgave him but still refused to come out.

Rameez felt a void in himself when he didn't see her roaming around the house or cracking jokes with Arsalan who by the way have been silent ever since. Everyone noticed that he was the quitest of then all. He didn't crack stupid jokes nor did he took part in any pranks with Daneen who tried her best to cheer him up. He daily went to Narmeen's room and sat outside just talking knowing that she was listening. He would occasionally slip notes under her door but she didn't get a reply but he also didn't give up.

Rameez got ready and went downstairs for lunch.

"Assalamualikum" his greeting echoed in the silent dining room only the sound of clanking of cutlery could be heard that's how its been ever since. Faris or the kids tried making small talk but the leader who was Arsalan never took part making them shut up. He took a seat at his usual place gazing at the empty chair placed across from his.

"That's it" Arsalan got up and slammed his hand on the table startling everyone. He went to the kitchen and brought a tray with him. He filled with all his apis favourite dishes and held it up.

"Where are you going?" Faris asked him who was already near the door.

"Me api ke pass jaaraha hon. Atif taya ko heart attack ka Natak karna pare ga nahi tu woh bahar nahi aayen gi" he said going back to his dramatic ways.
(I'm going to apis room either grandpa or Atif uncle will have to fake a heart attack otherwise she won't come out)

"Sounds like a plan" Faiqa said.

They all went in the living room waited for a reaction which they soon got as Arsalan screamed at the top of his lungs.

"Api taya Abu ki tabiat kharab hogaye hai jaldi chalen" Zalaan shook his head at his sons antics.
(Uncle is not feeling well come quick)

They heard the door being unlocked.

"Jaldi chalen dekhen unhe kia horaha hai woh bula rahen hain aapko. Mujhe tu lag araha hai woh apni aakhri saansein le rahe hain. Jaldi Karen" Arsalan said dragging Narmeen down the stairs. Narmeen was in tears listening to his statement she hurried her steps and reached the bottom seeing everyone gathered around her Abu.
(Hurry up come see what's happening to him he's calling you. I think he's taking his last breaths. Hurry up)

"Abu" Narmeen hurried towards him ignoring the people around her. She examined him from head to toe. Checked his pulse but everything seemed fine to her.

"Uthein chalen hospital chalte hain. Kia horaha hai aapko—" Atif stopped her rambling and explained to her the whole situation. Her fear turned into anger directed to one person solely.
(Let's go to the hospital. What's happening to you —)

"Arsalan" she gritted her teeth and glared at him. She ran after him who ran behind Rameez for protection.

"Rameez bhai mujhe bachein. Mene tu acha hi chaha tha" Arsalan said from behind Rameez. Rameez was tall enough to hide his whole figure behind him.
(Rameez save me. I only wanted the best)

"Tumne khud apni maut ko dawat di hai. Me nahi paron ga beech me" he said gazing at the fuming girl standing few steps away from him. Her hair tied in a ponytail, dressed in a simple white dress, her hands crossed across her chest.
(You summoned your own death. I'm not going to interfere)

Rameez took a hold of Arsalan and dragged him to her. She looked at him and then at Arsalan ignoring the the butterflies in her stomach she raised her hand to slap the hell out of Arsalan but stopped mid way when he flinched. Arsalan peaked from one eye and saw the raised hand and sighed in relief knowing well his api won't slap him.

"I knew you wouldn't slap me" he cheered while Zalaan sighed disappointed he was really expecting a show. Instead she twisted his ear really harshly.

"Ab hui na baat" Zalaan cheered seeing Arsalan yelp and hiss in pain.
(That's more like it)

Arsalan glared at his father who was snickering at his state.

"Yeh dunya ka woh Wahid baap hai jo apne bete ko dard me dekh ke khush horaha hai" Arsalan said freeing himself from Narmeen's hold. He ran to his mother for rescue who hugged him like was a little baby.
(This is the only father in the world who is happy seeing his son in pain)

"Daneen, Mahban, wahaj sab inke pyare hain ek me hi hon jinse inhe masla hai. Mujhe adopt kia tha kia" he whined to his mother who just shook her head at this weird father and son duo.
(Daneen,Mahban, wahaj everyone is dear to him but me. Was I adopted?)

"Adopt karna hota tu tumhe hi karta" Zalaan said sarcastically while rolling his eyes. Merzia could only sigh knowing this bickering isn't going to end soon.
(If had to adopt then I would've surely adopted you)

"Tu galti tu phir aapki hain na" he saud without thinking. When the words registered in his mind he turned to face his father who had already thrown his Peshawari chapal at him. He dodged it skillfully and hid behind the couch.
(Then that's your mistake)

The encounter had cracked up everyone. Laughter resounded in the haveli once again after weeks. Narmeen silently laughed forgetting her worries. She felt contented being tucked under her fathers arm protected in his embrace.

Rameez's eyes fell on the girl sitting opposite to where he stood. Her smile looked exquisite. He eyed her bottom lip that was tucked in between her teeth, as if feeling someone's gaze on her she turned to look at the owner of those blue hyptonic orbs. Her soft deep brown ones met his ocean blues.

Their eyes kept locked which didn't go unnoticed by Rumaisa and Merzia. The ladies shared a look with smiles in their faces. The sadness dissolved as the lunch went by peacefully with everyone present in the table. Rameez and Narmeen locked eyes quiet a few times. The ladies had nudged their husbands and silently told them about the young bud of love that was blooming between the two.

The evening fell upon then as the once silent haveli filled with cheers and sound of any sort. The eery silence was broken and now the night waited the bright and sunny morning that had yet to step foot on the haveli grounds..............
