Chapter - 3 Hide-and-seek

Hello pretty people, I am back with another part of Daagi <3. I hope you all are liking this fiction.

Happy reading...

Arti came back to her home with those papers. She was still trembling – that incident was still haunting her. He had actually asked her to marry him that to a fake marriage. His presence had always made her feel awkward and awful. Marrying him was a big 'no' for her. She had decided that she would go and tell him straight that she couldn't marry him. Then her gaze fell on the on the contract which he gave to her. It was inside the envelope. She decided that she wouldn't read it, but one part of her heart wanted to read that agreement. She recalled him saying that the offer and the agreement both were in her favor, still she was pulling herself from the contract.

The whole day she was running away from it but finally she couldn't hold herself back. At night she picked the agreement, hiding from everyone and read the whole. She was surprised to notice that he wasn't lying about the contract. The whole contract was in her favor – it had some non-disclosure clauses stating that she would never disclose about their marriage to anyone except their families; other clauses contained that they could mutually anytime break the marriage after two years; they would never go into sexual intercourse and none of them would force the other partner and she would be allowed to continue with her studies but would be working for him as his maid. The contract had also contained the amount to be paid by him to her and her family etc.

The contract was safe for her but still she was scared. He was a rich man – he could easily manipulate the situations and make them into his favor. She was at the same time worried for her family, this was the huge opportunity for them – she could pull her family out of indebtedness under which her family was drowning, her family would get a good life, her getting married was the biggest dream of her family which would get fulfilled if she marries him. She knew that no man would accept her with those scars on her sensitive areas, Akash was giving her this opportunity. For her, marriage was never the priority – he had promised her that he would allow her to study and teach others. One part of her heart was saying that there was no harm in saying yes to him but still she was confused. There were several thoughts running through her mind: Whether she should trust him or not? Would he harm her? What would be her parents' reaction? What would be his family's reaction? What would be her future with him?

Meanwhile, a piece of her heart jumped out adding to her dilemma that every girl needed a loving husband and wanted a successful marriage. Family, future, risk and career – everything was involved and she had to balance them all. Akash had left her in dilemma big time. Argh! Why did he come back? Why did he give her this proposal snatching away all her peace? Her life was calm and peaceful; his mere presence had created a chaos.

She came out of her room and went to the kitchen. She was lost in her thoughts just then she overheard her parents who were sitting in the chowk through the window.

"I will go to pilgrimage when Daagi gets married," Arti's father said.

"Don't call her Daagi. At least you! I don't like this name. How many times do I have to tell you?" Shanti scolded her husband.

"So, what do I call her? You tell me who will marry her with those scars? Maheem has brought a proposal, boy's family wants 2 lakh rupees at least to marry her. From where do I get the money? She is already 20. People talk about her now. They speak rubbish things about her. All know about her identity – DAAGI... Till how many days are you going to keep her like this? All the girls of her age are married and my daughter... It is all because of you. " her father blamed his wife.

"Now, what have I done? " Shanti asked.

"You were the one who took her there that night, couldn't you take care of her? Left my daughter alone and she met with that accident. You have spoiled her life. "

"You can't say so. What have you done for your children? What have you done for us? Nothing! At least I am earning something in this illness. What are you doing? Nothing! Sitting at home." Shanti snapped back.

And her Parents started fighting. But their words were hurting her. She knew her scars were the biggest hurdle and the biggest fear of her parents. She could understand their concern for her, raising a girl child was not an easy task in the society where they lived and it got even more troublesome when that girl was ugly. People had already given Arti several names, but Daagi became her identity and her own father called her with that name. When she was a kid she never understood the meaning of Daagi but when she grew up this word made her feel miserable.

She closed her eyes and a lone tear came out of her eye. She came out of her room and told her parents everything about Akash's offer. They were shocked to listen to that. No parents would let their children enter into such contract. They denied it completely assuring Arti that they would get a better husband for her, she needn't had to worry about her marriage. She nodded in front of them but inside her heart his words were buzzing.

Days passed, Akash was waiting for her answer, but she remained unavailable to him. Every day he used to visit her college, but she never appeared. He realized that something was fishy. He wanted her clear reply: yes, or no, okay no 'No' only 'yes'. But where was she? He had to find out her whereabouts. He had sent his men to her home to inquire, they informed him that she had gone to her Granny's house with her father and would be back next week.

After a week, she came back and was working in the kitchen making lunch for her family. Just then her gaze fell outside the window and she saw Akash entering in through chowk. She panicked. She left everything in between and ran outside. Her father was out of the house for some work and her mother was bathing. She was scared if anyone would come and see him there in their house. She came out and found him standing in front of her just in the middle of the chowk. He was wearing a maroon shirt and a pair of gray trousers which were shining in the bright sun.

Why was he there in her house? The first question hit her mind. Was he there to punish her as she didn't reply to him? Was he there to talk to her family? Was he there to kidnap her? Was he there to revoke the offer he had put forward? What was he up to? Many questions ran to her mind.

"Sahab..."She could only whisper.

"Where were you? I have asked you for something, do you have some manners or not? You should have replied to me? "He yelled. He didn't want to scold her but he was so much irritated with her ignorance that he lost his cool.

"I was about to tell you, but I went to my... "She couldn't even complete when he interrupted.

"Okay! I am really not interested in all this. Just tell me what is your answer? "He asked bluntly. He just wanted to hear her answer nothing else.

"Sahab, sorry, I cannot do this, "she looked down.

Akash rolled his eyes in disappointment and irritation. He had somewhere expected this but still he wasn't prepared. Firstly, that girl got herself disappeared and now, she was refusing his offer. His anger level was increasing.

"Really? I thought you love your family, but no I was wrong. Look Arti, this will help you. Just say yes. "He tried to manipulate her again.

"Sahab, my family loves me more. I have discussed this with my family and they do not support a marriage like this. Sorry! " She informed.

"Let me talk to them, then. Where are they? " He started peeping and moving inside her house.

"Sahib no, please. " She pleaded, blocking his way.

"I won't leave you so easily, Arti."

"Sahab, please, I beg of you. My mother is already not well. If she sees you here, she won't..." like always he interrupted.

"Fine! If not here, then somewhere else. You cannot run away from me so easily. Just be ready for me as I will be back anytime. " He said and left the place.

His toning was alarming. She knew that his eye was on her and he would go to any extent to get her. He wasn't a man who would spare her so easily. She needed to rescue herself from him otherwise he would spoil her life, but how?
