Chapter 19
The trial pressed on, each piece of evidence meticulously examined under Jin’s watchful eye. Witnesses testified, documents were presented, and Jimin’s relentless questioning painted a damning picture.
Throughout it all, Jin observed SeoHa. Her face betrayed nothing, but Jin could sense the storm brewing beneath the surface. When her name was called to the stand, she rose gracefully, meeting his gaze for a moment before turning to face the courtroom.
“Kang SeoHa,” Jimin began, “did you not use the museum’s network to facilitate smuggling operations under the guise of art exhibitions?”
SeoHa’s voice was calm as she replied, “I managed the museum’s finances and logistics, as was my role. Anything beyond that was outside my knowledge.”
Jin watched her carefully, noting the slight tension in her jaw, the faint hesitation before she spoke. Her composure was impeccable, but it wasn’t unshakable.
As the trial continued, the weight of Y/n’s memory pressed heavier on SeoHa. She believed in me. She trusted me. But her heart remained cold, the shield she had built around herself unyielding. Guilt won’t change anything. I’ve come too far to let it consume me now.
When the court adjourned for a recess, Jin leaned back in his chair, his mind racing. This wasn’t just a trial—it was a battlefield of morals, betrayals, and buried truths. Tomorrow, the court would reconvene, and Jin knew the verdict would not just decide the fates of those on trial—it would reveal the consequences of every choice that had led them here.
Back at headquarters, Jimin stood frozen in the surveillance room, his breath caught in his throat. The technician replayed the grainy museum footage, each second unraveling the mystery that had haunted him since Y/n's death.
The screen showed the dimly lit gallery after hours. Y/n appeared, her movements calm but purposeful as she arranged some files on a table. Moments later, SeoHa entered the frame. Her posture was tense, her gestures sharp as she spoke to Y/n.
“They argued,” Hoseok muttered, his arms crossed.
“Wait,” Jimin said sharply. “Look at the corner.”
A shadow moved just at the edge of the frame. The technician zoomed in, enhancing the image. A man dressed in black stepped forward, his face obscured by a mask. The gloved hand held a knife, its blade glinting ominously.
The man didn’t hesitate. He stepped closer to Y/n as SeoHa backed away, her face frozen in shock. With a swift motion, the knife plunged into Y/n’s stomach. She staggered, falling to the floor, her eyes wide with disbelief.
Jimin’s hands curled into fists as he watched, his heart pounding. “Who is that?”
Before the figure could flee, another person entered the frame.
“Yoongi?” Hoseok whispered in disbelief.
Min Yoongi stepped into view, his expression eerily calm as he approached Y/n’s body. For a moment, he stood over her, his gaze unreadable. Then, to Jimin’s horror, Yoongi raised the knife and plunged it into Y/n again. Her body jerked before going still.
“Stop,” Jimin said, his voice breaking. “Pause the footage.”
The screen froze on Yoongi’s face, his eyes cold and detached as he pulled the knife free. He wiped the blade on his jacket and fled the scene, disappearing into the shadows.
“Why?” Jimin muttered, his voice filled with anguish. “Why would he do this?”
Hoseok’s face was pale, his jaw tight. “Yoongi wasn’t there to save her. He came back to finish the job.”
The room fell silent, the weight of the revelation pressing down on them.
Jimin’s mind raced, replaying every interaction he had ever had with Yoongi. The calm demeanor, the quiet loyalty—it had all been a mask. A cover for the monster he had just witnessed on the screen.
“Send out an alert,” Jimin said, his voice low and dangerous. “We’re bringing him in. Now.”
Hoseok nodded, his face grim. “We’ll find him, Jimin. And when we do, we’ll make him pay.”
Jimin’s eyes remained fixed on the frozen image of Yoongi’s face, his chest heaving with a mix of rage and despair. This wasn’t just a betrayal. It was a wound that cut deeper than he could have imagined.
And he wouldn’t rest until Yoongi faced justice.
