"Oh I want to have him beside me like oh ooh
On the 25th by the fireplace oh ooh
But I don't want a new broken heart
This year I've got to be smart."
I had decided to leave Jason asleep when I woke up Christmas morning. It was only 8:30 and my friends were not due here until 12:30 for lunch.
So I turned on the TV to the music channel, which is playing every kind of Christmas music, sat on the carpet with Levi and Kira and played with them for awhile.
The thought of giving Jason his 'present' (which, when he gets I'm telling him is mine since he'll be a baby over it) early, but instead decide upon giving it to him tonight as planned.
I glance at my phone. Usually dad calls around 9:00, before he goes down to the cemetery to see my brothers.
"You know, you're suppose to wake me up and drag me out of bed, excited to see what Santa brought," Jason's voice says sarcastically, his footsteps echoing down the hall.
I smile when he comes into view, shaking his hair out and smirking at me.
"Good morning," I grin, jumping up. "And Merry Christmas."
I probably look ridiculous in socks, shorts, a christmas sweater and reindeer ears I had to fight Kira for. He moves quickly, leaning in to kiss me, placing his hands on my hips.
"Merry christmas," he replies, tugging me close. "You're really in the spirit huh?"
I shrug, "When I was a kid it was the only time my family would come together. Dad would stop working, the bodyguards were off duty... I even saw my brother Simon smile once."
Jason gives me a grin, which is his attempt to cover up the fact that he has no idea what to say to that. I don't mind.
"Come here," he says softly, holding his hand out. Smiling, I allow him to lead me back to the couch, where we both sit. "For a while, I wasn't sure what to get you. I knew I wanted it to be something... you know, important."
He stops, almost unsure of what to say. I smile at him when he looks at me. I swear he blushes.
"I know it seems lame... and cheesy... and cliché... Are all of those the same thing?... Or are those the wrong wor-"
Realising he is excessively babbling, I reach out, grab his face and kiss him, smiling. I should probably check his pulse. He's in full nervous mode.
Perhaps that's the cutest thing about him. How nervous he gets with these sorts of things.
He's the one to pull away, but those green eyes never leave mine. It allows me to witness the full blush dusting his cheeks.
I feel him take my hand and press the small present into my palm.
"Merry Christmas, Ven," he says softly, leaning in to kiss me again, softer this time. Sweeter. I smile at him as much as I can when he backs up, glancing down at the present.
It's a rectangle black velvet case. I take time in opening it. Out of the corner of my eye I can see Jason clenching and unclenching his fists. Nerves. It makes me smile.
Inside is a beautiful necklace with a gorgeous pendant. A silver and red curled intricate piece.
"It...reminded me of you. I think it's because it looks like that dress you wore at the foundation ball. If you don't like it or you-"
Ever notice when he's nervous, he babbles? I have to push him down and kiss him to shut him up again. He lands on his back with me on top of him.
I pull away, hovering above him.
"I love it," I smile. He slowly grins back. I sit up again and turn my back towards him. "Put it on me," I say excitedly, handing the box back to him.
He chuckles as he opens the box, removing the necklace. He places it on me and I find myself giddy with excitement.
Once upon a time Hiroshi had peppered me with gifts. I had felt hollow when they were given to me.
But this feels different.
"I love it," I smile at him, turning around. I won't deny there is a pink tinge to his cheeks as he looks anywhere but at me.
Reaching out, I grip his shirt gently and pull him in, kissing him. I feel him smile as he wraps his arms around my waist and lifts me onto his lap.
Just as I'm settled, my phone rings on the counter. He groans softly in annoyance and I laugh.
"That would be my dad," I say, kissing him once. He leans in for more but I jump up cruelly and walk over to the kitchen. I pick the phone up.
"Hey dad," I grin when I answer.
"Pumpkin! Merry christmas!" He replies enthusiastically.
"Merry Christmas to you too. How are you?"
"Good! Good... Taking the day off to stay with your sisters.
"Oh... how is Ginger? She okay now that she's with you?"
"As she normally is. And you? With a special lady?"
I groan and face palm. "Dad for the last time I'm not gay!"
"Sure pumpkin... sure. So, bise-"
"I have a boyfriend, actually," I interrupt him. Jason is laughing to himself from the couch at my outburst.
"Really?"
"Really."
"...Hmm. Name?"
"Jason."
"Age?"
"Twenty one."
"Twenty one?... Cradle snatcher you."
"It's four years dad!"
He chuckles for a while. I know he's kidding, but her really knows how to get under my skin.
"Are you happy Venny?"
I absent-mindedly touch the necklace, feeling the jewels beneath my fingers. I smile at Jason.
"Yeah dad," I say. "I'm happy."

Like all holidays, the day was tiring but fun.
At 11:00 I started cooking lunch for my friends. I cooked the vegan stuff for myself, as well has beef and whatnot for the others.
I refused (most of) Jason's advances throughout the day in an attempt to make tonight all the more sweeter.
Everyone arrived at 12:30. JJ, Taylor, Telysha, Angel, Nicki, Grace, Grace's boyfriend, Dick, Tim and Barbra.
Most attention is paid to the dogs or presents. My friends buy me little dolphin ornaments like they normally do. I have a shelf of them in the living room.
That lot stay until about 4:30, before my friends leave to be with their families. Barbra, Dick and Tim stay a little longer to help clean, before the five of us set off for dinner at the manor.
Like usual, Jason's stress levels were peaking. We sit behind Dick's car where he and Tim are. Barbra is in the back seat behind me. We're in Jay's car.
When Babs is distracted by her phone, I reach out and place my hand over Jason's. He turns his palm up so we can hold hands properly.
He glances at me quickly and I give him the most reassuring smile I can, which he returns in slight.
Christmas at Wayne Manor is different than expected. Then again, I don't know what I was expecting. Silence? Anger? Depression? The ruining of a so far perfect day?
Or perhaps I expected the opposite of that.
Smiles, laughs. Like maybe everyone could forget who they were in the pitch black night for a few hours and enjoy being family.
But it was neither of those. It was... normal.
Alfred had cooked a mountain of amazing food, including separate selections for Dami and I. The boys went outside and had a snowball fight that drenched Damian's jumper (which I had defended when everyone teased him about it).
Though Jason and Bruce did not exchange gifts, there was a sense of calm between them, at least for tonight. I got to know Tim a little better, finding him the best to have a civilised conversation with, as well as Alfred.
At the end of the night, Jay and I were the first to leave. It was late and I could feel the effects of Christmas wearing off.
"You can't deny. Alfred cooks better vegan food than I do," I say, as we near the city. Jason laughs, adjusting his grip on the steering wheel.
"He's got decades on you. Can you blame him?"
"I don't blame him I envy him," I reply, grinning.
It goes quiet for a minute, before he asks what I was about to.
"How did Dick seem to you tonight?"
"I don't know... If he's hurt by the break-up he hid it well. Whereas my sister had to leave town."
"They were never going to work. We knew that," he replies, pulling into the car park beneath the apartment. I begin forming some sort of plan in my head.
We walk into the elevator, where I decide to gently press my hands against his chest and push him up against the elevator wall.
"Is Christmas sex my gift?" He grins when I lean up to kiss him.
"Hm....Define Christmas sex."
"Sex on Christmas," he replies, moving to kiss me. I slowly back away as a tease.
"Seeing as you said no gifts I guess we can't today huh?"
His face drops completely as the elevator opens to my apartment. I grin as I see a devious plan forming in his eyes, smirk growing, when his phone suddenly rings.
Rolling his eyes, he steps into the kitchen and answers, talking to one of his lieutenants. Just as he drops on the couch I go practically sprinting into my room.
I dive into my wardrobe and dig up the Red Hood shirt. After running into my en suite, I strip and slip it on, along with a pair of red undergarments.
Oh my God why did I do this?
I freeze and look at myself in the mirror. I let my hair out of its ponytail and shake it out a little. A spritz of perfume and moment of excited giggling later, I am sitting on the large swivel chair at the window, overlooking the sitting.
One leg folded over the other, I can hear him on the phone still.
What if this upsets him? What if it brings up memories? What if it sets him off? We still haven't had an actual couples fight yet. What if this is the trigger?
What if that phone call, right now, is going to take him away from me for the night?
"Ven?"
He's suddenly walking down the hallway. I hear him walk through the door.
"Sorry about that. Just a shipment gone wrong. I can stay thought. You wanna watch the-" I cut off his talking when I turn the chair around.
He literally freezes on the spot as I muster up the hottest smile I can, waiting for a reaction.
Pretty green eyes bore into the material on the red shirt, the symbol, the colour. They trail down to my legs (as usual), then up to my face.
"What are-... Where did you get that?" He gets out. Softly and unreadably.
"Don't you like it?" I ask, smiling a little.
If I had blinked I would have missed it. Him suddenly surging across the room, slipping his hands underneath my ass and hoisting me up onto him.
"Like it?" I hear him say, biting into my neck before he throws me onto the bed. Things get perfectly rough at that point. He leans down. "I love it."
Grinning possessively, I reach up and flip us, putting me on top where I belong. I begin unbuttoning his shirt, primary goal being remove all clothing.
"Prove it," I practically sing, before he's flipping us again.
He leans down and whisper what he plans to do, all the while leaving me in this shirt.
I think I've just discovered a Jason Todd kink; wearing his brand.
I like it.
