Chapter Nine

The room he led me to, was much nicer than the rest of the building, it lacked all the grime and grease, and was furnished quite attractively, for a place like this.

He jumped up and sat himself down on a counter near the back of the large room, streaks of his dark hair fell from their place and landed just above his eyes, he opened a draw from the counter and pulled a wrap of bandage out from it.

I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion as he expertly twirled the wrap across his knuckles.

He glanced up, his black orbs peering at me through his long eyelashes, "Have you figured out why you're here?" He questioned, as if I was meant to have an answer.

"No." I stated in an obvious tone, leaning against a wall for support, "That's why I keep asking you."

He tilted his head to one side, examining me before inhaling a breath and finally answering me, "Everything you've seen tonight, is illegal and I'm pretty sure you guessed that already," he stated condescendingly, making my eyes narrow, "even you just being here is breaking the law." I felt my stomach drop, and scratched the back of my head, anxiously, it wasn't something I had thought of.

He had finished wrapping up his knuckles, and jumped off the counted, stalking toward me. A smirk adorning his face, "I'm not going to lie to you," he paused adding more drama than necessary whilst scanning over me, "this is a dangerous place." His smirk grew, daringly as he took in my scared state, "And you could go to jail just for putting a toe on this property."

"Looks like you're already a criminal." He chuckled, watching in clear amusement at my reaction.

I looked him in the eye as I gained my sense back and stepped away from him, "Why is it so dangerous?" I said, putting on a brace face as I tried to remember the route we took to get here, and began devising an escape plan to get back home.

And once I was home, it was obvious that I needed to move States.

Actually scratch that. Country. I shall move country.

"Ah. Ah. Ah." He tutted, "You don't get to ask those questions yet--"

"Excuse me--"

He held a finger up, then slowly moved it to his lips, in a silencing motion. "I'm telling you it's dangerous, Gabrielle, if I told you why, you'd jump ship." He taunted, "I can tell you're a bit of a coward." He nodded slightly, adding to the taunt.

I pulled my head awkwardly away from my body, in a shocked manor, "You don't get to assume those things of me." I scrunched my face up, firing with unusual anger.

I didn't know why his comment had hurt me so much, or why it offended me to the point where I got actually angry. I'm not an angry person, usually.

He repeated the silencing action, obviously I obliged, but it seemed to just escalate my over dramatic emotions that were running haywire. It must have been the lack of sleep, or the fact I'm usually knocked out by now, but this was a whole new, quite obviously.

And it was exhilarating.

His voice pricked the silence, "I have instructions."

I threw him a weird look, "What?"

He rolled his eyes, and inched closer to me, taking up the space I put between us earlier. "I have instructions. And you need to follow them if you want to stay as safe. Well, as safe as I can do."

"Wait a second. Just wait." I held my hand up daringly, "Doesn't this all seem like a lot of unnecessary trouble, I don't understand why you've brought me here, if it really is as illegal as you've said, why don't you just take me back?" I questioned, cocking my head slightly. "I've already 'broken the law', so I can't tell the police anything, I get that, so why don't you just take me home, and we can both forget about this, and everything else?"

He threw me an irritated look, and rolled his eyes, a sly smirk growing on his face, "Where's the fun in that?" He teased, shaking his head. "You, Missy, need to pull that massive stick out of your arse and live a little. Life isn't as long as you think."

He chuckled to himself, like he knew something I didn't and looked back up at me, "I'm practically doing you the biggest favour of your life."

I gaped at him bewildered, at first glance Adam was intimidating, I agree; now I could see that he was just a huge pain in the neck. He saw my annoyed expression and took it as an invitation to keep talking.

"It's simple, not rocket-science. First and most importantly, stay where I can see you at all times," he hesitated briefly, checking over me to make sure I was listening, "Second rule is, stay by the cage. Simple really-"

I shook my head, gesturing him to wait, "Hold up, hold up. What cage? And where will you be?"

He ignored my question with a cunning grin. And exited out a door on the other side of the room, opposite to the one we entered from.

And then I knew exactly what he was going on about.

The cage was a pentagonal shape, the walls made with blunt, steel wire, weaving through itself. Instantly, I missed the quiet of the previous room as soon as we were smacked with the blaring roar of the riotous crowd. I threw my hand out quickly and grasped onto the leather of Adam's jacket. Allowing him to lead the way.

I couldn't see much over all the men's heads, or even above their heads their arms were flailing wildly holding bills of cash in a frantic attempt to get the man in the centre to notice them.

It was havoc, all of it. The noise infected my ears and left them ringing, my stomach became victim to it all and I felt heavily sick.

I couldn't stop the lingering eyes on my legs, and the humiliating eyes on my pyjamas.

I really wish I had time to change.

Over the noise of the crowd, I could faintly hear an announcer.

And then I heard them say Adam's name.

The crowd eerily came to a stand-still and the noise softened, I gripped onto his jacket tighter than before. He threw his head back and glanced at me, pointing to the cage. "I'll meet you there." He mouthed, before prying my hand from his jacket and ushering me to the front of the cage.

I was only inches away from the steel wire, when a bell echoed through the room. And I knew exactly what was about to happen.

And I was dreading every second of it.

The crowd erupts into a cheer and I peel my eyes away from the cage, watching the announcer mouth words, I couldn't hear over all the noise, but I expected it to be something exciting for the men.

Suddenly, the announcer's hand flew to the side, and a bright spotlight clicks on, revealing a shirtless, massive and extremely muscular man. He raised his fists above his head, his towering height would easily come to about 6'5 or higher, and I instantly felt my heart drop.

The King Kong of a man took a loop around the ring, his eyes staying on me for a moment longer than I would have preferred.

The announcer says something else, and my ears twitch up, recognising a few incoherent words.

Then the spotlight lands on Adam.

I sigh, closing my eyes, and praying for this night to come to a quick end.

Adam, too, was lacking a shirt, and even with everything that had happened, I fought truly hard not to check him out.

This certainly wasn't the time for checking him out.

He leapt into the cage, a cocky grin on his face, he looked intimidating I'll give him that.

But he was a literal noodle compared to King Kong.

The sick feeling grew, and I tasted bitterness in my mouth. As much as I didn't like Adam, I hated violence.

  And death.

Which is what this fight would obviously lead to.

And how could I get home with a dead driver.

I huffed, glaring at Adam's back. He rises onto his toes, and brings his fists to his face, one foot in front of the other, in a simple stance.

The crowd love it, obviously he was a common visitor as they started an unruly chant.

  Val-En-Tino

  Val-En-Tino

Val-En-Tino

The chant was stunned to silence as the bell rang again.

  And then King Kong charged.

Cheers and boo's are shouted, as Adam swiftly dodges King Kong's ferocious attack.

Adam was quick and stealthy, not making a single attempt to fight back. Back and forth. Back and forth. It was hypnotic, he moved so gracefully, ducking, sliding and rotating. For a moment I forgot about everything else, and was sucked into the exhilaration of it all, joining in with the crowd when Adam narrowly dodged yet another strike.

This continued for quite a while, King Kong attacking, and Adam slipping out of his grasp with ease. And I was thoroughly surprised.

Even more so, when I blinked and King Kong was on the floor. His face disguised by blood.
