Chapter 5

Success.

" Success  follows  people in the world  and hereafter, as long as  people  assist and see to the needs of their  parents in  their free time."

They whizzed past the houses and trees, as Uhtmaan drove to his in laws house. Since it was a Saturday, both of them didn't have to go to work so they had decided to share the good news with their parents. Both  sat in  awkward silence, none of them attempted to make conversation.

Before leaving the house, the two of them had argued regarding her dressing once again. Uthmaan had objected against the tight jeans and short top that she wore, the  top barely covered her behind. He had told her there was no use of wearing the  scarf if she wanted to dress that way. She had snapped at him and said that she was dressed modestly compared to many other people.

His parents would disapprove of the way she was dressed and he wanted her to atleast respect that and dress modestly infront of his parents if she didn't want to listen to him at all. He didn't know what changed her, but what he did know was, his Raeeasa was not always like this.

Once they pulled up in the driveway, without a word she stepped out of the car, rushing into her parents house. He took off his topee, running  a hand through his hair. Why  couldn't she just listen to him sometimes, she was becoming so defiant, he didn't know what to do anymore. He jumped out of the car, locking it behind  him as he entered the mansion, hoping his in laws didn't notice their sour moods.

As he entered the living room, Mahmood exited the kitchen. He greeted his father in law, who embraced his son in law, happy to see him after a whole month.

Unlike Attiya, Mahmood was very fond of Uhtmaan. Attiya on the other hand, didn't regard Uthmaan to be her type of son in law, she didn't want a religious son in law, but she couldn't object as her daughter was happy with the man she married.

Uhtmaan sat down, replying to the greeting of his seventeen year old sister in law, who sat on the couch opposite to him, wearing a knee length, floral dress, her curly hair rested on her shoulders. He  hurriedly lowered his gaze.

Could this girl not dress decently infront of him atleast?

Noticing his daughters attire and his son in laws  discomfort, Mahmood ordered her to go to her room and change, to which she rolled her eyes, huffing irritatedly, she left the living room.

Attiya entered the living room, clad in an ankle length dress, a scarf loosely draped around her head,  followed by Raeesa, she passed Uthmaan a small smile, greeting him, to which he replied.

Raeesa refused to make eye contact with him. They both settled upon the couch Roshan was seated upon earlier.

"We have news to share."
Raeesa got straight to the point.

"I am expecting, Alhamdulillah."

Attiya embraced her daughter with tears in her eyes and Mahmood did the same, a huge grin plastered on his face.

"That's wonderful news!"
Attiya beamed.

"This calls for a celebration!"
Attiya loved hosting  extravagant parties, to which she invited her elite and snobbish friends.

Raeesa on the other hand wasn't really  fond of her mother's friends.

She shook her head.
"No need, my friend is already having  a baby shower for me."

Attiya frowned.
"Surely she won't be able to host a party the way I do."

Raeesa sighed.
"No mum, she is going to do it and I don't want to see all your snobbish friends."

Uhtmaan's eyes widened, he knew they were snobs, but she didn't have to tell her mother so straight forwardly.

Attiya frowned.
"They are our kind of people, from rich and  elite families. People you should be mixing with. People of class and poise unlike your so called friend."

Uthmaan shifted uncomfortably.

It was clear that  his mother in law regarded him and Basheera as total outsiders who didn't meet up to her standards.

They both were from rich families, but only because they didn't live it up like the elite families and they didn't flash and flaunt their wealth, they didn't fit in with them. They were from humble rich families, whilst the elite were from proud and arrogant families.

Mahmood remained silent. He was very different to his wife. Unlike his wife, the background of a person and their status never affected him. He disliked fake and pompous people, he got along with genuine people, which was not easy to find amongst the elite people. Everyone wanted to compete with the next, boast about their wealth and holidays. He was more of the humble type, much to Attiya's dismay.

Roshan entered, now wearing a leggings with her dress, much to Uhtmaans relief. She joined in the conversation, happy that she would finally be an aunty soon.

Excited chatter and the clanking of dishes could be heard, as the Hussain family indulged in their dinner, happy with the  good news. Uhtmaan's family was quite huge compare to Raeesa's. While Raeesa had just one sibling, he had five siblings. Uhtmaan being the eldest, then a set of twins Usama and Umama who were eighteen, Huzaifa who was sixteen, Hafsa who was twelve and lastly Humairaa who was ten.

Ibrahim and Aminah were ecstatic that they would finally be grandparents. Once they had heard the news, the already noisy house had become even noisier.

After enjoying a good meal, the family cleared up. The males settled in the living room, while the females went outside, sitting in the patio beside the pool, excitedly discussing the coming of the new member in the family.

After discussing multiple things with his son, Ibrahim gave Uhtmaan a serious look.
"Son, I don't want you to be offended, I am only telling you this for your own good. You need to tell your wife to dress modestly, she used to dress fine before, what is happening now?"

Uthmaan lowered his gaze, he knew this topic would come about.

"It is not my place to interfere, but I am just advising you son. She works in the corporate  world, it is utmost necessary for her to dress  modestly."

Uthmaan nodded, not able to say anything.

Raeesa stood by the living room door, she was about to enter when she heard her father in law talking about her. She fisted her hands, first Uthmaan, now him. Why couldn't they just leave her alone! It's not like she was walking around half naked! Little did she realise that modesty doesn't mean just to cover the body, modesty is to cover the body with decent attire that is loose and doesn't show the figure.
