O N E
"I think she's waking up,"
A voice said.
"Really? Good! She scared me there when she just... Passed out!"
I snapped open my eyes, hearing a familiar voice. Glancing around, I shrieked. A tall skeleton in a nurses' outfit stood above me, along with the boy from earlier. Yet he didn't have a hoodie. Not to mention that an entire half of his face was nothing but bone! His arm and shoulder, too! They stared at me as I defensively held my arms up. The boy laughed.
"What's your problem?"
I sat there, completely flabbergasted.
"Hehe... Skele-cat got your tongue?"
An eyebrow raised.
"W-wha?"
He held out a hand. A hand of bones. How does that even stay together with no muscle structure to keep it together? Whatever!
"What's so confusing? Did you hit your head too hard?"
The nurse put a boney hand to her boney chin. Bones. SHE WAS NOTHING BUT BONES!
"I think... Maybe... She could be suffering from amnesia?"
The boy stared.
"Ooooohhhhhh! Maybe."
The nurse sat down next to me.
"Can you tell me your first and last name, miss?"
I thought on it, and it simply came to mind.
"Veronica Winchester." (Credit of last name "Winchester" goes to MonkeyGirl915 )
She nodded.
"And what did you eat for breakfast?"
Vaguely, I remembered eating a bowl of Unlucky Sharms with a bowl of apple juice for breakfast. And half a pear.
"Good memory."
The nurse kept asking questions. After around fifteen minutes, she seemed content with the results.
"Alrighty then!"
The black haired boy smiled.
"So, what's the problem, doc?"
The nurse became deep in thought.
"Hmm... I'm not sure, but it seems all she doesn't know is what skeletons and half-souls are... Lucas?"
The black haired boy looked up to the nurse. So Lucas is his name, huh?
"Yes Miss?"
He answered.
"As you're the one who found her, and carried her here, would you mind guiding her through the day?"
The boy smiled.
"Yessir!"
The nurse giggled quietly.
"I'll give you both passes and you can go to class,"
She said, and wrote us out little pink slips. We both waved goodbye and he lead me off to our class.
"Not sure how you managed to forget us half-souls, but F.Y.I, we're freaking awesome!"
He said, and I giggled at his enthusiasm.
"Okay, okay, now explain. What are half-souls..?"
Lucas turned to face me, and staring at the skull side of him made me uncomfortable. He pointed to the bone on his face.
"Me. Half-souls look a lot like humans, but have the physical status of a zombie."
He let his bone-arm hang around, and made a dead face, starting to walk around like a zombie.
"Like that! But we have more intelligence and... Well... Flesh, I guess. Our flesh can heal and stuff, but it takes a lot of time. We often have parts of our bodies that are nothing but bones, like my arm and half of my face. My shoulder's pretty boney too."
I nodded, making mental notes of what he said.
"You're pretty smart, y'know."
He smiled.
"I know. I'm just that awe- Oh look! Our first class!"
Lucas dragged me into a classroom, and sat us down in the front row. The teacher looked down at us. At least... I think he did. He was nothing but bone, much like the nurse. It was honestly terrifying for me, but nobody else seemed to think much of it.
"Lucas? And a new student, perhaps? Is there a reason for your lateness?"
I held out my pink slip of paper, as did Lucas. My hand was shaking. There was a clattering sound behind me, and I looked back. A pile of bones? A hand rummaged out of the pile, that being of bone too. It crawled towards me, and I shrieked. Others laughed, and I felt my cheeks burn.
"A little help?"
A voice said, and I looked down to see a skull right in front of me. I shrieked again.
