I wanted to take a picture of your smile,

But the camera took the beauty away,

So I learned the way the ends of your lips turn up towards the sky,

I learned the way your skin was while under the silver lining of the moon,

I learned the way your crackling hands gently plucked out a strawberry from the bush and dropped it on the basket

I learnt the way tears stuck to your eyelashes as you cried for the world,

each tear looking like a frozen drop of water dangling on a tired, shameful tree branch

I learned how the things around you seemed to pop of colours and I saw everything the camera couldn't pick up.
