December 23 || Stockings
Sabien
I coughed lightly and cursed when I bumped my head. I squinted, let out a muffled aha! and snagged my fingers around a dusty old box. Well, everything under my bed was dusty. This box, however, was less dusty. I wormed my way back out and sat up, sneezing the last of the dust out of my nose.
"Bless you."
I glanced up. Navia was leaning in the door frame, looking amused. "Why were you under your bed?"
"I was looking for something." I lifted the box onto my bed and brushed off my clothes.
Navia walked over, looking curious. "What is it?"
I grinned. "Just a sec." I opened the box and pulled out a red and white stocking, embroidered with my name in cursive.
"A stocking?" Navia asked.
"Well, duh." I glanced in the box, then pushed it aside and laid the stocking out on my bed. "I noticed that there are none around here."
"So?" Navia wrinkled her nose slightly and sneezed.
"Bless you." I told her, "I figured we should hang them up."
"Thanks. Where?" She rubbed a finger under her nose. "All the hanging spaces are taken up."
"Hmm..." I paused. She had a point. There wasn't really... "Our doors!" I exclaimed, an idea popping into my head.
"Huh?" She deadpanned.
I chuckled. "There's nothing on our doors; we'll hang 'em there!"
Understanding dawned on Navia's face. "Oh, of course!" She nodded. "Sabien, you're a genius!"
"I know." I smirked.
"Shush. C'mon, let's go!" She smacked me and headed out into the hall.
I followed her out, unable to suppress a laugh. We hung up my stocking— after cleaning the dust from ti, of course— and headed down the hallway to find hers. We hung up Navia's, too, once she'd found it.
"Christmas is in two days." Navia said as we walked back along the hallway.
"I know." I shook my head. "You're ready, I hope?"
"Yeah, I got my gift the other day." She answered, halting in front of Zay's door.
"Oh, good." I laughed and knocked. We hung up Zay's stocking and continued down the hallway.
"I wonder who got me." She said as we entered Sasha's room. He'd told us where to find the stocking, since he and Zay were hanging out together.
"Me too." I agreed. "Honestly, you're probably the easiest one to get things for, 'cause you like pretty much everything." We found his stocking, hung it up, and headed over to Lizzie's room.
"Thanks?" Navia laughed as we moved on from Lizzie.
"Oh, you're welcome." I grinned and rapped on Tazi's door. "It make things super simple."
"I suppose you're right." Navia finished hanging the stocking and waved to Tazi before heading to Niko's door.
"Of course I'm right." I grinned at her. "I'm always right, you've just gotta start listening."
"Hm, I'm gonna have to decline." Navia hooked the stocking up and closed the door so we could head over to the last room.
"And that's everyone." I commented, nodding cheerfully to Lucia as we finished with her stocking.
Navia took my hand and smiled. "That was a wonderful idea, Sabien."
"Thanks." I blushed lightly. "Though you had a hand in it."
"Of course I did." She rolled her eyes playfully. "Did you honestly believe you could've done it by yourself?"
I pouted. She laughed and pulled my into her room. We sat together on the bed, eyes on the window. "This storm sure is nuts." I pointed out, as another gust of wind brought an onslaught of snow.
"Yeah." Navia was frowning. "Almost as bad as the ones we'd have back home. Those would go one for weeks."
I shuddered. "Well, I hope it clears up soon. I've been itching for some fun outside."
"In the snow, perhaps?" Navia turned her teasing gaze to me, wiggling her brows.
I snorted. "Well duh. Snow is one of my favourite things ever!"
"I know." She laughed, obviously remembering last year.
I, too, thought back to the previous Christmas. It was odd to think that I'd only celebrated it twice here, and I'd enjoyed it more than all twelve years that I'd done it with my family.
"Last year was definitely weirder." Navia's remark pulled me out of my reverie.
"Yeah." I nodded in agreement. "But at least we could go outside."
"Hmm, but being stuck in here is fun too." She mused.
"True. Plus then I would've never thought of the stocking idea!" I agreed with a sly grin.
"You are such a dork." She muttered, giggling. "I could—"
"What? Kiss me?" The words tumbled out of my mouth before I could stop them. I quickly slapped a hand over my mouth, my cheeks feeling like they were about to burst into flames. "I-I mean—"
Navia blinked thrice and stared at me.
I closed my eyes, ready to die of embarrassment. "Please forget I said that." I groaned.
I jumped in surprise as I felt Navia's lips on my cheek. "Why would I do that?" She whispered. I opened my eyes as she leaned back, pink dusting her cheeks.
"'C-cause..." I stuttered and trailed off. Apparently the connection between my brain and my mouth stopped working whenever Navia was around.
"'Cause..." Navia repeated, her eyes locked on mine.
"Uh... because you're so amazing that I could kiss you." I blurted in reply. Shoot. I didn't mean to say that.
She blinked at me.
"Well?" My voice was working of its own accord now. "May I? I mean, me we? I mean, may we?"
Navia laughed softly. "We may." She leaned close and I met her halfway, our lips locking. Hers tasted faintly like mint, reminding me of the cold winter storm still blowing outside. I closed my eyes and enjoyed the sensation a little longer. After all, what's Christmas without a kiss, mistletoe or not?
