Chapter 1 Explosive Start

On a dark rainy night during the year 2990 a high tech squad of police officers held a man holding illegal Cybernetic Implants and Upgrades. The police all pointed their laserdisc rifles and guns at the man holding the illegal items in question.

"Sir Put the Implants and Upgrades down and this will end with no blood shed," An officer announced thru their pixelated mic.

The mysterious man just smirked before activating an illegal implant he had installed in his brain. This put up a full body force field around him and he then transformed his own arms into laserdisc mini guns as they were illegal upgrades.

"All officers fire at will! He can't hold those up forever!" The same officer called out.

The whole police force instantly shot at the man, however the shield just absorbed the laser blasts and not only that, but they seemed to be making it stronger.

"Hahaha! You fools! This puppy runs on laser disks! So you all firing them at me just, FUELS... ME... UP!" The man psychotically announced.

After making the announcement he fired his own laser disks at the officers. One at a time the officers all dropped dead instantly as they were hit with the laser disks. This is because when a laser disk makes contact with organic material it immediately overloads the whole body, causing the heart and brian to explode inside the body. It's quick but very painful so it's not a recommended way to go out due to the pain you can experience.

"Oh shit! Backup! I repeat we need backup!" The head officer cried out into his virtualized watch as his team were all eliminated.

"Ahaha! I'll keep this up till all of you are dead! I'm a mother fucking Cybernetic Advance Gunman! HAHAHAH!" The man psychotically laughed as he continued to shoot down all the police force.

As he shot he failed to notice a figure in the darkness holding a pixelated sniper rifle in their arms loaded up with enhanced LDE.

"Alright target insight, I'll shoot him and grab the gear," The figure explained to someone they were on a call with.

"Okay, I'll see you in a week or two for pickup. After all, something like that is more valuable in the right hands, and when it's used right," the person the figure was talking to responded.

"Understood, see you then," The figure said as they ended the call. They then held up the rifle and looked through the scope to get a more clear view of the man.

"Eat this mother fucker!" The figure quietly exclaimed before pulling the trigger.

A green laser bullet flew through the air, it then instantly hit the base of the man's implants. "Huh?! What the hell?!" The man questioned, surprised as he felt something hitting the base of his implants.

Next thing he knew all his implants in his eyes, arms, chest, legs, and even spine all glowed green. He screamed in pain before a green flash filled everyone's vision.

Meanwhile in a small crappy apartment a teen girl was in her school issued headset trying out the software she implanted with the help of a friend.

"Hey DK, I got it all set up, you sure it'll work?" the girl asked her friend over a private digital call.

"Sure, trust me Nova it'll work perfectly with this you wont need to purchase anything for the new program at school," DK explained in his usual confident and savvy voice.

"Okay I'll trust you, now I gotta get going, my uniform is in the wash right now so I need to get it dry as school is starting soon," Nova explained before ending the call.

Once the call ended Nova got a good look at the apartment she was living in with her father. The place was old and filthy but still livable, outside of the few cans of drinks on the floor and the stench of beer and cigarettes in the air it was mostly decent. Nova's dad only ever drank and smoked when he didn't have work and when Nova was at school. He didn't overdo it as they needed enough money to pay the rent and it was just a way for him to forget that they were broke and living in a bad part of Cybernet City.

Nova got up from the old and worn out in floor couch they had and went to the laundry room. As she went there she passed by their kitchen that had a number of dirty dishes in the sink, a messy table, and a counter full of overdue bills.

Nova eyed the bills in disgust, as she hated how the bills keep them in this position. She wished with all her might that they didn't exist anymore so her father wouldn't have to work as hard to keep them afloat.

"Ugh, fucking landlords! Why the fuck do they have to charge us so much! I swear one day once all of these bills are paid we'll be ditching this place!" Nova declared as she spat in the direction of the bills before walking off.

She arrived at the laundry room and shoved the door open. The laundry room was the second most cleanest room in the house, the first being Nova's own bedroom. There were some dirty clothes piled up in baskets on the left side sitting snugly on the wall. Meanwhile on the right side of the room is where the washing machine and dryer were sitting just as snugly as the clothes basket. Nova sighed before she went up to the washer and used a voice command for it to open.

"Washer open and display school uniform," Nova commanded.

"Voice command denied, washer fee overdue," a robotic female voice replied.

"What! Oh come fucking on! AHG!" Nova screamed before punching the washer in frustration.

"AHH! Whatever! I'll just go in something that's close to my uniform," Nova said to herself as she got up and went to her room.

Later Nova was in her room looking at her virtualized mirror, she wanted to see if what she wore was good enough. She wore a black skirt with a white tank top, a blue jacket pushed off her shoulders, and black shoes. Her long light brown hair spilling over her shoulders and back as she hadn't gotten it cut in about four years. Her light blue left eye and deep black right eye both correspond to the outfit she wore.

"Well, this will have to be done," Nova said before she left her room.

When she emerged from her room she heard the door to the apartment sliding open as someone with the command key installed requested it to do so. Coming into the apartment was a man who looked pretty exhausted and stumbled his way inside.

"Oh hey dad, how was work?" Nova asked.

"It was tiring as usual, but it's worth it for every penny," Nova's father explained with a small smile.

"There'd be more if you'd just let me get a damn part time job," Nova commented, annoyed with their living situation.

"Sweetie, I know you don't want to be living like this, but I want you to focus on your education. I know you'll have a bright future with the knowledge," Nova's father reassured.

"Whatever, the washing machine is in need of some jolts," Nova explained.

"Alright I'll take care of that, you head to school," Nova's father said while pointing to the door.

"Sure oh my way," Nova responded before she walked past her dad and out of the apartment.

The door slid closed behind her and she made her way to school. She walked past a few other tendients living in the building, some passed out while others were smoking and doing drugs. She came across the stairs and saw a pile of garbage bags blocking the stairs. Nova sighed and climbed up the apartment small wall before jumping down. She landed on another pile of garbage bags which thankfully broke her fall. Standing straight Nova walked out of the garbage pile and out to the streets of her neighborhood.

It had the usual sights that were always present here every morning, the homeless sleeping on whatever comfortable surface they could find. A number of junkies doing crack and other drugs, or watching something on their private visors, from where their hands where she assumed that it was porn.

As she was walking she passed by some people being held up at either gun or knife point for who knows what. This was a pretty common occurrence in this part of the city so it didn't concern or frighten her in the slightest. After all, where she lived was where the whole low class of society lived, not just folks who didn't have enough jolts but often criminals. Thankfully most didn't bother her as she kept her figure concealed so creeps wouldn't try to assault her. She made sure to keep anything of value out of sight so no one would try to mug her. The criminals around here only steal valuable items they can see as they didnt want to waste time over nothing.

So with no worries of being attacked Nova made her way to the teleporter that would instantly take her to school. Stepping into the teleporter Nova put in the same coordinates she used the day before and instantly she found herself in a new teleporter. This one was much nicer than the previous one she was in, as it had a fresh clean slick of pain and little to no scratches on it. The one that was in her neighborhood was pretty old and worn out, with the pain having faded a long time ago and scratches all over it.

Nova turned around and saw her school standing before her on the outside of the teleporter. Stepping out of the teleporter Nova walked on the metal sidewalk up to the building towering over her. She never found anything wrong with it let alone how well kept it was unlike the buildings where she lived. The windows being so crystal clear and clean unlike most in the apartment she was in. The streets didn't have a single scrap of garbage, vomit, blood stains from fights nor homeless people sleeping on the streets. She desperately wanted to live in a nice clean place like the city her school was in, however it was just too expensive for her and her father.

Nova sighed as she walked into the building feeling jealous how nice everything was. Nova went inside and headed to her first class, passing by many other students who all wore the school uniform while she wore something close to it. Most other students looked at her in disgust and she could feel them questioning and mocking her behind her back. To them Nova was an outcast who didn't belong in the school because of how poor she was. Everybody there treated her with distance and some even bullied her. She mostly ignored it and just went on with her day as to her it would be a waste of energy to say something back to them.

Entering her classroom she was greeted by other students who arrived before her. Most were in their seats with EVR goggles on. The EVR stood for Educational Virtual Reality, which was pretty much cut and dry on what it was. The goggles where programed with every educational and trade class ever invented. To Nova it was a great way to learn, mostly because all her classes took place in the goggles.

Nova took her seat and leaned back, she placed the goggles on her face and placed the chip that DK had given her in them. To her relief the screen lit up and she was inside a digitalized field. Which meant that chip and goggles worked perfectly with each other, aside from just a small bit of lag it was good enough for her.

"Nova, where is your school uniform?" The holographic teacher in the goggles asked once she fully settled in.

"It's in the wash and hadn't paid the fee to get it out," Nova explained.

"Don't you have another one?" The teacher asked.

"Same thing with that one," Nova responded.

"Alright however please return tomorrow in your uniform," The teacher requested.

"Can't make any promises," Nova stated after all she wasn't sure if they could pay for the fee today or next week.

"Class now that everyone is here we can begin," The teacher announced as she began the class.

Several hours passed and everyone took their goggles off. The students all began falling out of the classroom discussing what they all planned to do once they got home. Nova just planned to find a part time job she could work from home so she could bring some more money in. DK did allow her to partially work in his shop for a small paycheck, unfortunately it's not that popular so it doesn't make much. As a result the pay wasn't much so Nova just went looking to work from home.

She left the classroom and left the building, as she was walking out she heard a voice that made her cringe. "Oh look what the cat dragged in, a dead bird HAHAH!" A female voice laughed.

Nova rolled her eyes and turned around to face the girl who made that comment. "Nice one Cerise next time try something more original," Nova said.

"Oh please, I'm just saying what's true, after all your kind doesn't belong here. Lower class like you should just stay in the lower cities, after all that's where you all belong," Cerise said in a snarky tone.

"Yeah well one day we'll leave that place behind and rise up to the middle city," Nova said.

"Hate to break it to you but that'll never happen, after all you were born in the lower class and you'll die in the lower class," Cerise remarked in a snarky tone.

Nova didn't respond any further and just continued on her way to the school doors. She didn't have the energy to deal with Cerise right now so she just left the building. However when she got outside she saw her dad waiting for her next to the school gate.

"Huh? Dad? What the hell is he doing here?" Nova asked out loud.

She ran up to her father and started calling out to him; he looked over to her and smiled when he saw his daughter coming up to him. "Hey Baby Cakes, how was school?" Her dad asked.

"It was alright but what are you doing here?" Nova asked confused as to why he was here.

"Well we haven't had some father daughter time together in a long time. So I thought we could go out tonight and have some fun. We can't afford much but we can still try to have some fun," her dad said.

Nova thought about it for a while, he was right they didn't have much time to spend together. Unfortunately before Nova could even speak an explosion was set off not too far away from them. Everyone screamed and started running for their lives as soon as the explosion went off. It was so intense that a large heavy truck had flipped over from the impact and the teleporters were damaged or destroyed. Nova couldn't make out or see where the bomb was nor who had set it off in the first place.

"Oh shit! A Cybernetic Advanced Terrorist!" Nova's dad screamed as he hugged Nova tightly to protect her.

Another explosion went off as the terrorist activated another bomb and this time it was much closer to them. The father and daughter duo were both launched into the air a few feet before gravity pulled them back down to the earth below them.

Nova groaned in pain as she looked at her father, however her vision of him was clouded by smoke and red. However she felt some blood flow on to her and that wasn't good, she could even feel that his leg was broken from how it laid on her own.

Nova soon passed out due to the pain she was experiencing from the explosion and the impact from falling to the ground. Before she succumbed to the darkness she heard more explosions and screams. Nova could make out the familiar sounds of sirens before her whole world went absolutely dark.

Hours later Nova woke up still in pain but slightly less now, when she opened her eyes she saw was in the hospital based on the sight of an IV drip next to her bed and the plain white roof.

"Ugh, w-what happened? Where's dad?" Nova asked as she sat up lightly.

"Hey kid don't worry he's fine," A calming voice said. Nova looked and saw a doctor standing next to her bed with a holo pad in front of him.

"Can I see him?" Nova asked.

"Not now, he's in the ER as he took on more of the explosion than you as he protected you. Don't worry he's stable just needs to be in the ER for a few days before we move him to the recovery ward," The doctor explained.

"Alright, just please let me see him ASAP, he's all I got in this world," Nova explained in a tired and weak voice.

"Will do kid, and I promise to make sure you and your father will see each other once he's in the recovery ward. For now you just rest and recover for today, I'll prescribe you with some pain killers once you leave," The doctor explained as he put the data in his holo pad.

"Alright, thanks for everything doc," Nova said as she laid her head down on the soft comfy pillow.

"Anytime kid, I'll be checking in another patient. You just press the button whenever you need a nurse to help you out," The doctor instructed as he left Nova's bedside.

Nove showed a slight smile before she drifted off into a deep sleep so she could recover.

However she did slightly wonder why a terrorist had attacked the school, after all it was more common for them to do that at government buildings. So for a terrorist to bomb a school was very unusual, however Nova didn't really care that much as she knew the police would do what they always do and solve the case.

Right now all she planned on doing was recover from her injuries and pray that her father does the same. After all without him she'd have no clue what she would do as there wasn't anyone else who'd take her in. Nova's mom had died in childbirth and both her parents were orphans so losing her dad would just kill her in more ways than one.
