Chapter 9: My time with Axle
Tuesday...
Axle woke up feeling groggy. He wanted to use his Cyberband but he quickly realised that he couldn't log on to CyberSpace until next week so he needed other ways to pass the time. That was going to be quite the challenge but knowing Axle, there would never be a dull moment in his life.
He got up and went to take a quick hot shower before rushing in a towel and got dressed in his room. He dressed up in his usual clothes but he wasn't wearing his usual blue coat, just a dull coal black sweater that he got for Christmas a year ago from Carly.
He had nothing else to do for the moment so he decided to go bother his CyberHuman friend. Maybe she had something or he could just annoy her. Normally he'd be flirting with her or asking her out but he gave up on that so that was out of the picture. Remembering all the time he spent with her and the feelings he had, he hesitantly knocked on her door before she said, "Come in."
He slowly opened the door only to get the shock of his life when he saw her with a different look. Her hair was no longer black. It was now a dark auburn colour. The CyberSpace beta tester was shocked to see the new look on the CyberHuman. This was a new thing for Axle and he was still processing what he was seeing.
"Carly?" He said as he finally opened his mouth. He would've said more but he was speechless. "You like it?" The CyberHuman asked with a big smile on her face and a sweet tone, hoping to get a better reaction from her former crusher. "Eerrr, yeah." He was lost for words. He wanted to say more but his mouth and throat prevented him from doing so.
"You're wearing the sweater I made you, nice... I like that." She said with a small tear escaping her eye as she obviously took note of his change of clothing. She never saw Axle wear it so it made her happy to see it serving its purpose. There goes any hope for bothering and annoying her... she looks so beautiful. Wait, what am I thinking? I'm over her!!
Right?
The thoughts took over Axle's mind. He was stuck with this internal debate while Carly giggled at how he couldn't speak. She even found it cute but she couldn't afford to stare like a creep. She then saw the look in his eye. "Axle." She called. He didn't respond to her and the look still didn't change. She took action and walked toward him before she said, louder this time, "Axle!" He still didn't snap out of The trans that he was in. Woah, he's a vegetable right now. No responses at all... Maybe he won't mind if I kiss him. No!! You pushed him away, he doesn't like you like that anymore. Right? Maybe he lied about being over me... or he really is. She thought.
The situation regarding the two was quite funny in a sense of speaking. It would have been pointed out but some divine entity wasn't enough. The only thing that would have to be done was for the two to tell each other of their feelings, but that wasn't going to happen any time soon. Before realising it Carly found herself and Axle stuck in an awkward silence when he came to. She acted first knowing Axle wouldn't do so.
"Soooo." Carly broke the silence between the two. "Wanna go out and walk?" She had no idea why she was getting nervous. She kept denying her feelings for Axle but that wasn't the problem here. They've known each other for years now so Carly shouldn't have been feeling like this. She then began to wonder how much of an influence Axle Ryder had over her.
"Go out for a walk? What, am I some sort of dog now?" Axle jokingly asked the CyberHuman who pouted at his poor excuse of a joke. "I didn't call you a dog dummy." She said before she huffed. He smirked in triumph at the fact that he at least annoyed her a little and just nodded. "Let's go."
Carly, acting put of pure instinct, got out of her room and decided to grab his hand before leading him out of the house. "Carly hold on!!" He tried to get her to stop and calm down but failed since the CyberHuman showed no signs of hearing him.
They were outside. Feeling the cold air. It was snowing today. Carly and Axle watched the snow fall from the sky at its slow pace. This put smiles on both their faces. It was an amazing sight. Carly still knowing that she was holding Axle's hand squeezed it even tighter. Strange thing is that Axle squeezed her hand as well. The one thing the two did love a lot was the snow that came with winter.
He shifted his hand and Carly thought that he was trying to break free but was shocked when he only changed the way he held her hand by intertwining their fingers. "Maybe we can just stay here and watch the snow fall." He told her. His presence was calm and warm... almost as if the real Axle made himself known to her. This made her happy as she knew Axle wasn't too far gone.
Carly, who was still blushing from what Axle did, immediately agreed. With him and that's how they spent the rest of their day. Holding each other's hands and watching the snow fall from the sky before getting into a snowball fight.
Thursday...
The previous day wasn't eventful. All Axle did was lay in bed and read all day long. He felt strange for some reason and he couldn't pinpoint the reason as to why. Carly? She felt amazing, ecstatic actually. She actually got hope that Axle might still like her after he intertwined his fingers with hers when they held hands on Tuesday.
Axle Ryder. That was the only person on her mind, everyone else be damned. She then got an idea. Acting on nothing but impulses, she left her room quickly and burst into Axle's room without knocking which startled the man in question.
"Jesus! Carly what the fuck?" Axle asked as he fell from his bed and landed on his tailbone on the cold hard floor. "Sorry Axle." She apologized before going over to help him up. He shook his head before getting up and sitting on his bed in a bit of pain. Axle wondered what Carly was doing and why she busted into his room so abruptly for.
"Let's go to the park." She said so nonchalantly. Go to the park... Axle was gobsmacked by Carly's words he and looked at her as if she was crazy. "To the park? On the perfect day to stay indoors? I don't think so." His reasoning was justified as it was too cold outside for any human to stay out too long. Forgetting that Carly wasn't a regular human he forgot that she wasn't affected by the cold.
"Axle, ever since we met you kept trying to stay indoors. Let's go out you lazy jackass. Besides, if you're worried about the cold you can just hold on to me to stay warm okay? I've got you Axle, nothing's changing that."
Axle looked at her and saw her giving him a look that broke his walls ever time he saw it. This time though, he wasn't fazed by it at all. He didn't cave, he refused to show any weakness. She looked at him with sad pleading eyes and added her signature pout. He tried his best to resist but he caved in immediately. Almost as if he was Kryptonian and she was kryptonite.
"Dammit, fine I'll go." He said faking his groan of frustration. "I know you faked that." Carly said, smirking at her victory. She knew that Axle wanted to go with her, even if he wouldn't admit it. "Whatever. Let's just go already." He groaned for real this time and this had Carly irked.
"Maybe we should stay outside for twice as long now." He looked at her and she was using her death stare. "Sheesh, I'll go okay." Carly's death stare quickly turned into a smile.
"Okay, let's go Axle." She said before leaving the room. This woman is gonna be the death of me. He thought before getting up and following the CyberHuman.
He got up and put his sweater and coat on before following Carly out of the house.
The two journeyed throughout the street and to the park while taking in the white snow that covered the place. The grass, sand, trees and everything else. Carly loved seeing the snow and Axle for some reason seemed to enjoy her joy for seeing it.
"Isn't the air great Axle?" The CyberHuman asked while maintaining her enthusiastic personality. "I guess."
"You really need to appreciate nature more you moron." She sighed. "What's with all the insults?" Axle asked, noticing the insults that Carly gave him for the past few days.
"Relax you dummy. Oh hey!! Someone's taking pictures." She ran off and naturally Axle had to follow her.
The two approached a photographer who seemed to be selling his services.
"Hi, Gary's Photographs, how may I help the lovely couple?" The photographer, known as Gary spoke to the two. "We're not a couple." Axle told Gary with a stoic expression.
Not yet at least. Carly thought. "Okay then." Gary broke Carly out of her thoughts. "Should I do separate or should I do both at once?"
"Both at once." Carly quickly said, much to Axle's annoyance due to not having a say in it. "Okay, and hold still." Gary instructed the two before he took their picture. A picture came out of the camera and he gave it to Carly. "Hope you like it."
"Thanks, how much is it?" Carly asked as she was ecstatic to see the picture. "That one is free."
"How come?" Axle asked. "I have this thing where I charge for five photographs but I have the sixth free of charge."
"And we were the sixth one?" He asked Gary to which the photographer nodded. "Thank you so much. I'm never losing this." Carly said holding the picture close to her. She looked at it and smiled as she saw her and what appeared to be a smiling Axle.
"Hey Carly, can I see it?" "Nope. Not a chance. Sorry." Carly said before Axle started chasing her, trying to get the picture while she kept it away from him, both laughing as they did so in the cold snowy park.
