Chapter 14: The Most Feared Name in CyberSpace

Two hours. It has been exactly two hours since Rosé had logged onto CyberSpace and she's been moving around in the dark, keeping her presence a secret from the other users to avoid capture.

CyberSpace started out as a nice, calm and quiet place but it had turned dark in the span of a few months. People had long since given up on getting out and some lived in fear of the constant number of bounty hunters, mercenaries and others who had adopted the lives of criminals.

All of this was understandable since it was brought on by the basic survival instinct of humans. If you can't find a way to live, you die and there's no getting ejected from the system when your avatar does die.

Rosé wondered how people were able to live in a hellish like like this. She was secretly trembling beneath her brave and calm exterior. She had to make sure she was hidden, but that wasn't going to help forever as someone was bound to find her and turn her in to Black Cyber, thus potentially putting her and Axle in even more danger since she could be used as bait to draw the real Rosé_Shadow in.

She had to take her search for Cobalt to the high ground since sneaking around the streets and alley ways weren't doing her any good. It was better to get a clear vantage point to better her search and she did so by climbing up a ladder that was near her and she went all the way up to the roof of a building that she was next to.

Once she made it to the top she took a view of the place and it was fascinating and bleak at the same time.

She would have continued moving on to the next building but she was knocked down by a mysterious person.

"Finally... after searching for so long, I'll finally be set free." The mysterious user said. Rosé looked up to see someone. It was a female. She looked a lot like Carly's old self, Carla Evans. The only difference was that her hair was violet, short and she wore leather clothing. Her jacket, boots, gloves and pants, all made of black and purple leather.

"Now then, any last words to say before I take you in Rosé_Shadow?" She asked. Rosé looked at her confused. She found it odd that someone would make their avatar look a lot like the old her. Every detail, even the expressions and body type.

To further this confusion that Rosé felt, she looked at the username of this mysterious user. It said QueenCarlaEvans. This person must have known her before the car crash... but who was it?

"Who are you?" Rosé asked the bounty hunter. "It's clear that you're not Carla Evans because she's not dumb enough to enter this place." Rosé said trying to bait the user so she get the answers she needed out in secret.

"Like you'd know, Carla Evans died six years ago." Carla told Rosé with some venom in her voice. "I do this to honour her memory."

"We're you two besties?" Rosé asked her. "We were, until a car crash took the lives of her and her parents. Her body was never found."

Rosé knew something and that this user was probably who she thought it was, so she decided to say something while keeping her cover. "So you're Ellie huh?" Rosé said with a straight face. She felt guilty for not contacting anyone from her past life and that included her grandmother and her best friend.

"Carla told me a lot about you, she also told me to tell you that she misses you." Rosé lied, but not on the missing part. Her guilt was eating away at her now but she couldn't afford to show it and blow her cover.

"You've met her?" Queen Carla asked. "Yeah, I have... She wouldn't shut up about you." Rosé answered with another half lie and a warm smile and tears escaping her virtual eyes. "I'll give you my last name since I still don't trust anyone enough here with that." Rosé said. "Kyber." She told Queen Carla.

"Okay, so... by the looks of it, I can tell you're not the real Rosé Shadow." Carla told Rosé. "You've met him?" The latter asked.

"So Rosé is a guy," Carla smirked. "I've met him online and he was one of the most dangerous gamers in the world. He did disappear for some reason and I don't know why. This was about two months before Black Cyber showed up."

Rosé wanted so bad to tell Carla who she was, but she feared for Carla's reaction, so she decided to keep her mouth shut. She had to focus on her mission and that mission was find Axle.

"Carla, tell me... do you know a user by the name of Cobalt Light?" Rosé asked which earned a gasp of fear and an equally fearful expression on her face. "I see you have."

"Cobalt Light. He's dangerous. Vicious. That name is the most feared name in all of CyberSpace." Carla said as she looked down. "Why?" Rosé asked as she was confused as this wasn't in Axle's nature.

"Not only is he the most dangerous merc in the system, he's already killed thirty eight people... alone. That guy is a murderous psychopath." Carla said before looking up to see Rosé. "Why in your right mind would you wanna know about him?"

"I need to find him." The newcomer told the beta tester. "Why?" Carla asked Rosé. "I know him in the real world and I'm in love with him."

"You really made a dumb decision coming here to CyberSpace noob. Whatever was left of your crush was long gone last month." Queen Carla pointed out. "You can't get out and you painted a target the size of texas on yourself by using the very name that everyone is looking for."

"I get it, it was a dumb move... And besides, let's say the real Rosé Shadow found out about this, would he even show up here?" Rosé asked. "Yeah." Carla answered.

"Come again?" Rosé got confused. "Rosé is an honourable guy, and I'm guessing that you came to offer yourself to save everyone in CyberSpace." Rosé felt guilty.

She only showed up to free Cobalt, this wasn't something she had planned. "Yeah." She said before realising what she had gotten herself into. There was no getting out of it now. But then a realisation hit her.

If Bernstein really was Black Cyber, she could incorporate this into her second mission. Now she had no choice but to do this.

"Well, can you help me find Cobalt first?" Rosé asked making her request.

"I'll help you, besides... I know a guy who can help us find that killer." Carla said before realising they were talking about Cobalt.

"What does he look like?" Rosé asked her new ally needing to know what Cobalt's avatar looked like in case she needed to spot him.

"You've seen season three of the Flash right?" Carly asked Rosé. She nodded before Carla said, "He looks a lot like Savitar."

Those were all the words that would help Rosé spot Cobalt. "Let's get moving to an inn. We can't stay out during the night, assassin's and bounty hunters thrive around these hours." Carla said before moving away leaving Rosé with no choice but to follow her. Before they got off the roof, Carla smiled as she looked at Rosé. She pulled her in for a big hug and said, "Thanks Rosé."

"What for?" "For letting me know that Carla is still alive." Rosé chose to hug back and say, "You're welcome Queen."
