Chapter 23: CyberHuman Eight Thirty Two
Axle groaned as he got up. That armor... It might have helped protect him from the explosion but he still had a loud ringing noise echoing in his ears and a bunch of blurry silhouettes viewed through his eyes. He allowed himself a few moments to recover, although he wasn't sure how much time he would need before the soldiers from the other places in the facility pinpointed the location of the explosion and came in with rifles pointed at him.
His vision came back to normal as did his hearing. He looked around and he only noticed one thing. That thing was a lot of dead bodies. The ones around him died because of the explosion that he caused. The rest died and he noticed multiple bullet wounds on each corpse. He had no idea how the corpses even got bullet wounds in the first place. Grenades don't do that and he was sure he had no guns on him. Now the only question remained... What was going on?
The only damage he took was to his helmet which was shown in the form of a crack on his face plate. So much for unbreakable, but then again the face plate wasn't made of Carbex like the rest of his armor so that was one thing he'd have to make due with. Whatever the case may have been his face was his Achilles heel, whether the helmet was on or not. So that meant that a point blank shot from a high caliber weapon could still put him to sleep and declare game over on his life.
"Oh, you're still alive?! That's amazing." Axle turned around to see Wyatt who was holding a minigun. At least he knew why there were bullet wounds on the corpses who were still safe from the blast. He was still enraged by the late arrival of his ally so he glared daggers at Wyatt.
"Where the fuck were you you dumbass?!!" Axle yelled out making Wyatt chuckle. Axle wasn't amused so Wyatt dropped the small laughter before looking at the teenager.
"You're welcome kid... So, you went all kamikaze here huh?" Wyatt said with a small hint of irritation before Axle said, "Yeah, but..." Axle was cut off by a thought that slipped it's way into his mind. He looked around and there was no trace of Grey. No corpse, no badge, nothing. It was as if Grey was never there in the first place.
"Where's Grey?" The gamer asked the soldier. "Beats me kid, there was no sign of his remains when I got here so he's probably alive and somewhere... injured possibly. And if he's not then his body probably got blasted into so much tiny bits." Wyatt told the kid.
Axle smirked beneath the helmet. He took a look at his surroundings and he saw no survivors. He remembered something before he went all kamikaze on Grey and his troops. He remembered seeing Grey run away and use his own soldiers as meat shields. Grey probably survived that and escaped while Axle was still unconscious. But that begs the question... why didn't he kill Axle there and then? He was soon cut out of his thoughts when Wyatt said,
"Listen kid, all the regular soldiers are down... our main concern other than Grey is the Cyber Ops team that was supposed to capture Eight Thirty One."
"How many of them are there?" He asked. "Other than me and my dead cousin... there's three of us in Cyber Ops."
"About that too... what's Cyber Ops?" Axle asked the man. "A special team with Cybernetic enhancements. My enhancements were for my arm and my eye. Arm for strength, eye for accuracy." Wyatt explained to Axle as simple as he could possibly put it.
"So that's why you wear an eye patch." Axle said as he understood now. "Well we should get going... we got an asshole of a general to kill." Axle said before frowning. "On second thought, you should leave... go back to your family." Axle told the soldier.
"Are you sure because-" Wyatt was cut off by Axle yelling, "Just get out of HERE before we BOTH end up dead!!"
"Okay then... good luck kid, make sure you make it out alive." Said the Cyber Soldier.
Axle nodded before Wyatt walked off. It was probably for the best that Wyatt does leave... His family doesn't need another funeral because of this. And besides, this is Axle's fight and his alone. He doesn't need anybody getting mixed in what he's doing.

"That idiot!!" Carly yelled out to herself as she ran back the base entrance. "I hope didn't do what I think he did."
The CyberHuman ran back into the base after hearing the explosion that Axle caused in the hopes of pulling off a kamikaze.
She worried that he got caught in the explosion. Right now, her life was none of her concerns and captured was the least of her worries. She realised there and then as she was running back, that she wouldn't be able to live without Axle. All she wished for was that Axle was nowhere near the explosion. (If only she knew that he was the source of said explosion.)

Axle was trekking slowly in the base looking for someone. He was doing so at that pace since he didn't want to lose his life before carrying out his goal. And what was that goal? It's obvious at this point, as it was also the reason why Axle had been moving around in the base. He was looking for General Grey. Now why is this? Grey's remains weren't among the corpses so the logical reason was that he was still alive. Only question was, how?
How did he survive that explosion?
This was one mind boggling question. He was certain that explosion would've been more than enough to kill Grey but his remains, though charred and severed they should have remained there, but there was no trace of Grey at all. Axle's theory from earlier was only proving further to be true.
He kept wandering around until he found a trail of blood. This was when the gamer struck gold. He followed the trail of the coagualated scarlet liquid. Axle was starting to feel lucky and not before long he came across an elevator. He looked and walked in. He oberved the space and it only had three buttons. The floor he was on, one that would most likely take him underground and the emergency stop button.
He pressed the one that was labelled "C" no doubt for Cyber projects. Not only for that reason, it was the only button that was covered in blood. Axle still had no idea how long he was out for so as far as he could tell, the blood still looked fresh, but is was losing that quality very fast. AS HE went down he could feel his sense of gravity shift and change due to Newton's First Law of Motion taking effect.
He waited for a good two and a half minutes before the elevator stopped and opened up it's doors. The gamer reluctantly stepped inside since his paranoia and knowledge of Grey led him to believe that an ambush was waiting for him. He sighed remembering the Carbex armor he was wearing before he walked in, not letting his guard down and when he did so, he saw a body. It was so familiar. No doubt a corpse but wait... this was, "Grey... hold on, where's his brain?"
Axle said that noticing the general's literal empty head. There was also a large piece of shrapnel lodged in Grey's back along with the burn marks on his skin. Grey was dead, but that begged the question. Where was his brain because a brainless corpse walking all the way down here was impossible.
"Looking for me, boy?" A voice asked from within the darkness. It sounded weird, as if he heard himself. He turned to see a figure within the dim light. His height, body type and his face. The only differences were that the eyes were red and the hair was blonde.
That figure wore the same battle armour that Axle was wearing. He was smirking at the now petrified teenager. "Miss me." That figure said.
"Can't be... Grey?" Axle asked wide eyed under his helmet. "General Simon Grey is dead... what you see before you is CyberHuman Eight Thirty Two."
"Simon?" Axle asked as he tried to contain his laughter. "You can't be serious... how can a bastard like you be called Simon... what? Were your parents huge Alvin and the Chipmunks fans?" He laughed again. "You probably have two brothers name Alvin and Theodore. Hell, I bet your dad changed his name to Dave." He let out all his snarky comments as he was unable to hold back any of the laughter.
The smirk on Eight Thirty Two's face disappeared quickly, showing how unamused by the teenager he was. "That's it... I've had enough of that mouth of yours. Say goodbye Ryder." He growled before getting ready for an attack.
"Bring it Grey, this world isn't big enough for two Axles anyway." Axle said before grabbing onto the handgun that was near Grey's former body.
