Chapter 17: Remember Me

"Bernstein, is Eight Thirty Two is ready?" Grey asked the scientist responsible for Carly's torture. "The body should be ready in a week. We are gonna have to do the same thing as Eight Thirty One and get rid of his memories. If he remembered who he was then that would spell trouble for everyone here." Bernstein told Grey.

"Just make sure that Eight Thirty Two is ready." Grey said before walking off.

"You really did forget about me didn't you?" Axle asked as all the hope died within his soul.

"Carly, don't you remember me? It's me... it's Axle." He asked as tears began to form in his eyes. "Please tell me that you didn't forget." The girl remained silent and lifeless.

"Don't you remember? I'm Axle, we met in my room... we're both overprotective about each other." Axle said.

"Remember all the times we spent together playing video games together and how you'd find a way to beat me in every match we played against each other?"

She continued to stare at him with that blank look. "We told each other our darkest secrets. You told me that you were an android and it didn't change my feelings for you... I got shot trying to keep you away from those assholes... the same assholes who tortured you."

He chose to continue with tears escaping his eyes. "You made me happy. You took this hell I call a life and changed it into a blessing. Don't you remember me at all Carly... all those times, all those times we spent together... don't you remember a thing?"

"You have the choice to choose Carly... it's what separates you from being a machine... so did you choose to forget me?" He was having trouble keeping himself from crying.

All he did was drop down before crying a river completed, leaving a puddle on the floor with that was made out of his tears. "You're the only one who made me happy... You made my life a blessing... so don't leave me like this... You hear me!! Don't leave me like this Carly!!"

He continued to sob while Carly looked at him. Her expression didn't change at all. "I do not know who this 'Carly' is. I am CyberHuman Eight Thirty One, a military tool... I am not a human, just a machine." She told him.

Something snapped. He knew it. The Carly he knew and loved was gone. All that was left was Eight Thirty One. He lost her. He lost his family. He lost everything. He had nothing to live for now. Now he truly was dead and alone.

"So that's it huh? If that's really the case then you can take me back to my cell... Or you can kill me. I got nothing left to lose now." He told her, as all the life drained from his body. He hung his head down before letting the tears continue escaping his eyes, dropping onto the floor.

"I will not kill you Axle Ryder. Professor Bernstein and General Grey are not done with you." She said before she moved to the console and requested an escort to take Axle back to his cell.

Once the guard arrived, he took Axle away leaving Carly alone. She sat down on the floor. The bot was lost in thought.

"Who is he? Why did he talk to me as if he knew me? Carly... I am not Carly... but, I am not Eight Thirty One either. So, who am I?"

She buried her face into her hands. "Who am I? Who am I?" Carly asked herself over and over.
