Chapter 16: Finding Carly
Seconds, minutes, hours. Axle had counted them all as he planned. He counted as he intensely trained. Axle had been slowly regaining his strength while he planned his great escape. Over the past four days he kept eating that foul tasting meat that was provided for him. The strange part was that it was in larger portions than the previous times he was served. He could tell something was off but he didn't know what it was yet, and for some reason he felt sad when he ate the meat. Sure it was cooked, but that didn't change the fact that the food tasted putrid.
He made observations every time he fell or collapsed. Something that would work to his advantage. He noticed that under his bed, there was access to an air vent. He also took note of how smudged his hands would get after eating. Right now he was patiently waiting for dinner to arrive. He figured that he would have a better chance at escaping if he made an attempt at night when there wasn't as many guards as there were during the day.
The gamer was busy sitting on the floor, anxiously waiting for that tray of food to slide into the room. When it did, he ate it as fast as he could. Aside from the air vent, he noticed that there was a security camera that was observing him in there. He was going to have to take out the camera before attempting an escape through the ventilation system. He messed his left hand in grease from the meat and used the same hand to smudge the security camera in his room, allowing him to escape without being seen.
Once he was done, he slid under his bed and opened the hatch and went in. Part one of his escape plan was complete. Now it was time for part two. He was currently crawling through the vents. He could hear things. He was also searching for his family and Carly.
On the way during his search, he made it to a vent that was above the kitchen in the mess hall. He noticed that two chefs were talking about cooking something. He wondered what was they were cooking, so he listened in on what they were saying.
"Another one?" One of the chefs asked. "Yeah, last one. The sister this time." The second chef said.
"Poor kid. I feel sorry for him." The first one said with much sorrow in his voice. Axle was confused.
"Why wouldn't you be? He's been eating his family members for the past few days." Everything went silent from Axle. He couldn't believe what he heard.
He was disgusted by what he heard. He felt like he was going to throw up. He wanted to cry. Why? He unknowingly consumed the remains of his family. That's why. His family members would have to be scratched off of the rescue list now. He decided to continue crawling and look for Carly.
He went for a good three minutes before finding a restroom and broke out, making him fall to the floor. He might have been in pain but that was nothing compared to how he was feeling.
He rushed into one of the stalls and emptied out the contents of his stomach. It was just sickening. He felt disgusted... but more than that...
He was pissed.
Pissed at the fact that he almost got killed. Pissed at the fact that Grey was going to use Carly as a weapon of mass destruction. Pissed at the fact that his family was killed. Pissed at the fact that he was now an orphan. He was pissed at the fact that he ate his dead family members. And most of all, Grey left him with no bodies to bury.
"That tears it... human kind has fucked with me for the last time. Grey, when I find you... I'm gonna kill you." Axle said in a low growl before he flushed the toilet.
He went to go rinse his mouth out before climbing up the walls of the stalls to get back into the ventilation shaft.
Once the gamer was back in, he crawled around to try and find Carly. No use in trying to find his family now. He was too angry to think of crying now. He decided to wait until he after killing Grey to mourn, he owed himself and his family that at least.
It was the best thing for him to do.
He kept moving for a while now, not knowing where he was. He was lost. He heard a creak. He froze in the place he was in.
Axle knew what was going on. This was bad. Very very bad. He knew it. Another loud creak could be heard. He was worried. For his safety and that his position would be given away. Not only that, the vents were going to give way to his weight, so not only would he be discovered, his hopes for getting out alive would not be realised.
The third and final one was heard before Axle fell through the air vent and onto somebody. He looked to see if there was any damage but he was fine. It was then that he realised that he didn't fall onto somebody but rather, someone caught him.
He looked around. He was in someone's arms. A girl's arms. He looked up to the face of who caught him. His eyes were met by two silver orbs. "Carly?"
She dropped him as soon as he said her name. The girl had a lifeless look in her eyes, as if she had lost all sense of herself. He didn't recognise that look in her eyes. That was her face and body, but that wasn't Carly.
She went to the console, pushed a button before she said, "This is CyberHuman Eight Thirty One, I have found and captured the escaped prisoner." Axle died inside after hearing this. The way she spoke, the name she referred to herself as and the fact that she gave away Axle's location. This was breaking him.
"Oh my God, Carly... What have they done to you?" Axle said as his heart sank. It sank to the deepest darkest levels of his soul before it shattered. She looked at him. "Do you remember me?" He asked her, hoping that Carly was still in there. She simply tilted her head to the side. "It's me... It's Axle."
She still had a blank expression. He approached her. "Please don't tell me this isn't gonna break he trans." He said to himself before walking to Carly.
