Chapter 1: Carly
It was a nice day to be outside, especially in the small unheard town of Blue Stone this time of year. Breathing in the fresh air, getting some ice-cream and relaxing in the light and heat given off by the sun. It was the perfect setting.
Any person would have loved it, but not this particular individual. No. Axle Ryder was a different kind of person. He was what some would call the king of loners. While everyone spent the day outside, he spent his inside dedicating his time to online gaming. He was currently killing online players in a deathmatch on Call Of Duty. He was notorious for killing others with no mercy. He was infamously known on the online gaming community as the Rosé Shadow.
He was was undefeated and because of this he grew bored as nobody would provide an actual challenge for him. It was just the same old same old. Nobody worthy for him to take things seriously. He was highly skilled when using multiple weapons, but the one he was favored most was the sniper rifle. Easy to kill his enemies undetected.
His main strategy, on any game, was guerilla hit and run tactics and that earned him him the nickname Crimson Gorilla. He was feared and not many would voluntarily challenge him.
He looked around and saw a large supply of targets. It was currently open season for the deadly gamer and he was in the perfect spot to kill them all. He smirked before sniping them one by one as he gave them all headshots. It was especially easy since none of them knew where each other were yet. Once he was done, all but one died and respawned in different locations on the map. He noticed a specific player handle on the last one that said GXCarter. He had a look of rage on his face before showing to get closer. He had an RPG ready and he moved closer until he got in range. Once he was in range he took a shot at Carter and kept shooting until his target respawned.
"This is for Stacy you son of a bitch." He said before running off to another location before he would get killed. He switched weapons back to his sniper rifle before he ran out and hid in a secure location waiting for a target to kill. Although many saw him as unpredictable, he stuck with a basic pattern until the death match ended.
He thought back to how much times he gruesomely killed Carter before saying, "I'll make sure that happens to you IRL."
Axle felt bored now. The match was over and he didn't want to fall asleep so he logged out and switched off the console. He left his room and headed to the living room and sat down on the couch. He took the remote that laid beside him and and proceeded to watch some TV.
Axle, being the very uninterested guy he is, was busy channel flipping until he heard a thud in the back yard. It was then when he dropped all things and ran to the basement to get his father's baseball bat. He was home alone for the moment and decided to walk out to see what or who caused that thud. The baseball bat was there for the case of any hostile intruders.
He opened the door and looked outside. The glare of the bright sunlight had the teenager squinting. He put one hand over his eyes to block out some of the sun's glare. Damn the sun is bright. He thought. He spent his time avoiding sunlight and going outside of the house, albeit the back yard, was something he loathed.
When his eyes adjusted to the light, he looked around. It was bright but he was able to see everything in the back yard. The grill where his family would have their weekly barbeque on Sundays, the pool where they'd swim on a hot day, the bench that his sister would sit on and probably make out with her boyfriend and a girl? This wasn't there last time he checked.
Axle's eyes widened as he saw her. She was about five feet tall, with long black hair. She didn't look like she was much older than him, in fact, she looked to be about the same age as Axle. She had a nice build and a beautiful face. She was unconscious and she only wore a blue tank top and white shorts. He looked up to the sky and noticed there were dark clouds. It was going to rain soon. He looked for any signs of entry and there were none. Soon the temperature started to drop. He looked at the girl.
On instinct, Axle rushed over and picked her up. He was left with one question. Who is this girl and what is she doing here? He noticed that she was unconscious and she was trembling. She felt cold for some reason. Obvious reason for her trembling. He took her back inside as the clouds started to get even darker. He walked with the girl in his arms and headed to his room. He had no idea why he was doing this. Something about the girl just made him want to help her.
He dropped her limp body onto his bed and covered her up with three blankets. He looked out his window and noticed that there were drops of water on it. By the looks of the clouds, Blue Stone should be expecting a heavy downpour. He closed the curtains and switched on the light.
He couldn't help but stare and wonder. Who is this girl, and where did she come from? Does she have a family? She was clearly from out of town because he has never seen her at all until this day. He planned to make some soup for her before she woke up but fate intervened when he heard a door open.
"We're home!!" a female voice called out. Axle knew that voice. Oh he was in trouble now. This girl being unconscious in his room and still trembling, his family would get the wrong idea if he got caught. He heard what sounded like footsteps approach his bedroom door. He was in a state of panic. He had to think fast so as an action, he got out quickly to stop this person from entering his room.
"Hey Axle, finally done with your little game?" A girl, older than him, greeted. This girl was his older sister, Laura Ryder. "Yeah... Actually I need a favour." Axle said. He needed to play his cards right. The discovery of the mystery girl was to be avoided at all costs.
"What do you need?" Laura asked her little brother. "I need you to stay out of my room and I also need you to keep Mom and Dad out of my room too." Axle's behaviour was seen suspect but she knew better than to meddle in his affairs
"Okay, I'm not sure what you're up to but I can't make any promises." she told before a thought popped up into her head. She wasn't gonna snoop around but she agreed to keep everyone out of Axle's room and he provided no reason for it. She then got a hunch and said, "You're going online again aren't you?"
"Yeah..." Axle lied. He was desperate to keep everyone out of his room. "So please don't disturb me okay, I'll be there for dinner. And remember," he said before opening his door, "Nobody enters this room but me."
Laura looked inside her brother's room and quickly spotted the sleeping figure in Axle's bed. After seeing this she forced her way into his room and this left him bewildered. He was scared. His world was now falling apart.
"Who the hell is this?" she questioned him. She felt mad that he lied to her, especially about something this big. "I don't know... I found her knocked out in the back yard and I brought her here." Axle said truthfully knowing that he couldn't lie his way out of this one.
"Why should I believe you Axle?" Laura asked Axle, refusing to take her eyes off of the girl in Axle's bed. She wasn't even willing to listen to the truth but in all fairness she was lied to by said brother.
"Laura, do I have any reason to lie to you about this?" Axle looked at his sister with stern eyes. Laura saw the seriousness in her brother's eyes. There was only one time he had that look in his eyes and it did not bring up any pleasant memories for her.
"Looks like I have no choice but to help you." Laura sighed. "So, did she wake up yet?" She asked focusing her attention back on the girl.
Axle shook his head as he looked at his older sister. "I brought her here not long before you showed up." He didn't show it much but he was actually worried about her.
"Wow, she looks pretty." Laura commented. "Definitely nice for you." she smirked as she teased her brother.
"Would you stop trying to hook me up with people, it's annoying." the younger sibling grew irritated at his sister's teasing. This wasn't the first time since she does this every time he sees a pretty girl.
"Sorry, but you should try and get a girlfriend and this girl looks nice." Laura giggled. She wasn't even sure if she was teasing him anymore.
All of a sudden the mystery girl groaned as she stirred from her slumber. The two looked at her attentively, observing her movements as she was rising. She got up and looked around. Axle and Laura were stunned by the sight.
The girl looked at Axle and Laura before hiding herself under the covers. "Axle, Laura, dinner's ready!!" their mother yelled from inside. A grimace was formed on Axle's face as those words were said.
"Crap... Keep watch over her." Axle told Laura because he didn't want the girl running out and making the, already bad, situation worse. "Get my plate too." she told him before he left. She looked at the girl again.
"Hey, are you okay?" Laura asked the girl as she stayed under the covers. She could see the timid nature of the girl. Almost as if she had a tortured soul that was trying to hide. "Come on, I'm not going to hurt you." she said trying to reassure the timid girl.
The girl got out and looked at Laura. "Hi, I'm Laura. Laura Ryder." Laura introduced herself. She had a warm smile that seemed to have drawn the mystery girl in.
The girl looked at Laura, still scared. "Laura, can you let me in? My hands are full." Axle called out from behind the door. Laura got up and went to open the door and closed it once her little brother walked in.
Laura grabbed her plate before Axle put his down on his desk. He went to go close and lock his door. After doing that Axle took his plate and handed it to the girl.
He looked at her with a smile and said, "Here, you need to eat." she was hesitant. She saw that he wasn't intending on taking no for an answer. She reluctantly accepted the plate full of food. She ate half of what was on the plate before giving it back to Axle. He gave her that food and she loved it but she was still scared so she refused to face them.
"You need to eat too." she said quietly. "You spoke." he smiled. She looked at him to see that warm smile of his before a look of curiosity took over his face. She looked away again. "Where do you live?" he asked.
"Take the food." she said. She clearly didn't want to speak about her past. "I'm not hungry, I brought that here for you." He said giving it back to her. "Why are you so nice with me?" she asked, refusing to look at him. This was strange behaviour to her.
"Is there ever a reason why I shouldn't be?" Axle asked with a dopey grin on his face.
"I don't know..." She said. She was wondering what Axle's agenda was. She clearly wasn't use to this sort of behaviour from people.
"Hey, I'm Axle. What's your name?" he introduced himself before asking her who she was.
"I don't have one." The girl said looking down. She sighed a tense sigh before having a depressed look on her face.
"Do you have a home?" Axle asked another question. He needed to know where the girl came from.
"Nuh uh." She said showing the siblings that she was not only nameless but homeless as well. Laura looked at her and smiled.
"Well how about we call you Carly for the time being." Laura said drawing their attention to her. The girl looked at Laura carefully. She then thought about what she had said.
"Carly..." the girl muttered. "I like it." she said while letting a small smile creep up on her face.
