Chapter 4

As the darkness around you and Jungkook dissipated, a heavy door materialized before you, its metallic surface reflecting the faint light of the large letters suspended midair:

THE ELEMENTAL CHALLENGE

You rubbed your arms, feeling new surge of adrenaline coursing through your veins.

"Looks like we're in for another round of death traps," you muttered.

Jungkook grinned, a spark of excitement in his eyes. "You ready for it?"

You gave him a dry look. "As ready as I'll ever be."

You pushed open the door, stepping into the first chamber. The heat hit you like an oven. You quickly shrugged off your leather jacket, tossing it aside.

"Wow, if I knew you were going to start undressing, I'd have taken you somewhere fancier," Jungkook sneered, raising an eyebrow.

You shot him a look. "In your dreams, officer."

Turning away you couldn't help but feel the corners of your mouth itching up.

The chamber was a cracked expanse of molten rock, with platforms jutting out above the lava. Without hesitation, you leaped to the first platform. Jungkook followed, and as you both moved from one platform to the next, they started to sink. You made it across smoothly, but Jungkook barely managed to leap to the final platform as it submerged into the lava.

"Cutting it close there, hero," you said, smirking.

"Just adding some thrill to our adventure," Jungkook replied, catching his breath, beads of sweat covering his strong neck.

The following chamber was a vast, flooded expanse. The coolness was a welcome change from the fiery inferno, but you still felt your pulse quicken. Water was rising quickly around you. You spotted several valves on the walls, each marked with different symbols.

"Guess we need to turn these valves in the right order to lower the water level," you deduced, examining the symbols.

To be able to move more efficiently through the water, Jungkook removed his tactical gear, and you couldn't help but notice his shirt clinging to his muscular chest. You scolded yourself for ogling.

"Don't get too distracted, y/n," you muttered under your breath.

You began turning the valves, but the water continued to rise, almost reaching your necks now. Your mind raced, trying to make sense of the pattern on the valves. Suddenly, it clicked.

"Wait! The symbols represent numbers in a sequence. We need to turn them in numerical order," you exclaimed.

Following your lead, you two quickly turned the valves in the correct sequence. The water level started to recede, and you swam towards the exit.

The next chamber was a huge cavern with towering stone pillars. The ground trembled with every step you took. You eyed the pillars, realizing you needed to climb.

"Don't drool over my ass while I'm climbing," you said, smirking at Jungkook.

He laughed. "No promises."

Your cheeks flushed slightly and you shook your head.

The climb was tough, the pillars shaking under both of you. Your fingers kept slipping on the rough surface, but you kept going, feeling the strain in your muscles. Jungkook followed closely, his breathing heavy but steady. As you reached the top, the ground split open in front of you, creating a chasm you had to leap across.

Jungkook made the jump effortlessly, landing with a roll.

Show off.

You hesitated for a moment before leaping, feeling the ground give way beneath you just as you reached his grasp.

"I've got you," he said, pulling you up.

"Thanks," you replied, your pulse racing.

The final chamber was empty, save for another puzzle and a monitor displaying oxygen levels. They were dropping too fast for comfort. Your breath quickened as the air grew thin.

"We need to solve that to get out," you said, pointing to a large slide puzzle depicting what looked like a map of Neon Haven.

Jungkook nodded, already looking lightheaded. "Let's do it quickly."

You worked together, sliding the pieces into place. The lack of oxygen made it difficult to concentrate, and you felt yourself growing increasingly dizzy. You stole a glance at Jungkook, noticing the strain on his handsome face.

"Stay with me," you urged him.

Focus, y/n. No time to swoon over the dashing officer while you're suffocating.

Just as the puzzle clicked into place, Jungkook collapsed, his body going limp. Panicked, you dragged him towards the exit, you lungs screaming for air. You used all your strength to pull him through the door. It slammed shut behind you.

Outside, you hungrily gulped the air, feeling it burn your throat. You shook Jungkook, checking his pulse. As your fingers brushed his neck, his eyes fluttered open.

"Can't keep your hands to yourself?" he murmured, a weak smile playing on his lips.

Relief flooded through you, and you smacked his shoulder and dropped to the ground next to him. "Don't get used to it," you said, trying to steady your breathing.

"Of course, he'd crack a joke while barely conscious. Damn him for being so cute", you thought, annoyed at yourself for caring.

You lay there for a moment, catching your breath. Despite the chaos and danger, you couldn't deny the spark between you two—a spark that, against all odds, was becoming impossible to ignore.
