Chapter 23

Left alone, you swallowed back the tears. "Yoongi, you have to cut the communication."
"No! I need to hear what's going on with you!" he protested, desperation lacing his voice.
"You have to. We can't let OmniCorp use this against you."
"She's right," whispered Jin , his voice barely audible. A heavy silence followed.
"Namjoon, use everything you can dig up on these bastards to bring them down for good," you said firmly.
"Don't worry, y/n," Namjoon replied, his tone reassuring. "We'll make them pay."
"And Yoongi," you continued, your voice softening, "take care of my brother for me."
His voice cracked when he replied, "I will, I promise."
"Cut it off now! I love you guys."
The line went dead, and tears spilled down your cheeks. You shook your head.
Pull yourself together, y/n! Now's not the time to break down.
You focused on your wrists, bound together behind your back. The restraints were snug but not too tight. You managed to run your fingers along their sleek surface.
Freaking great. It's the J-Hope model. The irony is this is the infamous unbreakable OmniCorp's invention. No hope to get these bad boys off me until someone takes them off.
The door creaked open, and Jungkook's dark eyes found you still in the chair. Relief washed over his features. "She's here," he called over his shoulder.
Where else would I be, jackass?
The man in a suit from earlier stepped inside. He was taller and thinner than Jungkook.
"Ah! Jung Hoseok!" You exclaimed. "I'd shake your hand, but I'm a little tied up at the moment."
The men exchanged wary glances, and Jungkook rushed to you, his hands gently cupping your blood-streaked face. You flinched back. "God, y/n, your head! It's still bleeding!"
"Don't you think you're taking this a bit too far?" Jungkook frowned in confusion, lightly touching the edge of your wound.
You sucked in air. "Hey! Keep your pain kink in check, officer."
Hoseok snorted a laugh but quickly disguised it with a cough under his friend's scrutinizing gaze. Jungkook moved behind you and started fiddling with your J-Hopes.
"Now we have matching head wounds," Hoseok smiled, pointing at his head where you'd struck him earlier.
"Only yours isn't bleeding. Should I fix that for you?" You sneered. The man stumbled back , fear flashing in his eyes.
You scoffed. Then you felt the restraints loosen significantly. You shook them off and, with a quick jerk, threw your head back with all your might.
A satisfying crack of bone and a surprised yelp later, you dashed toward the door. Hoseok leaped out of your way, and you sprinted down the corridor.
Yes!
A sharp pain exploded in your back, right between your shoulder blades, sending searing agony through your body. You collapsed in a heap, your muscles convulsing uncontrollably.
No...
Your ears rang, and you felt, rather than heard, the thumping of approaching footsteps. You tried to crawl forward only to be unceremoniously yanked to your feet by a tattooed hand.
"Where do you think you're going, little miss hacker?" hissed Jungkook, his breath hot on your cheek. You recoiled, disgusted.
"Let go of her, you son of a bitch!" a growl echoed through the hallway, and suddenly Jungkook was tackled to the ground.
You tried to move out of the way but froze, your mind struggling to process the bizarre scene before you. Jungkook, flat on his back with a nasty scowl, was straddled by another Jungkook, whose furious expression alone should have been enough to knock someone out.
I must have a brain bleed.
You rubbed your eyes but still saw two Jungkooks. You felt dizzy and disoriented, wave after wave of nausea rising up your throat. Someone gripped your forearm tightly and pulled you away. You whipped your head, instantly regretting the move, and saw Hoseok's strained expression.
"Let's go, y/n."
"There are two of them," you huffed, allowing Hoseok to lead you toward the stairwell. You climbed up; he was practically bouncing on his feet, while you stumbled, losing your balance every few steps.
Hate the stairs! Ugh! So many stairs!
When you were two seconds away from giving up and collapsing, you finally emerged onto the rooftop. Immediately, you folded in half and vomited, your body heaving uncontrollably.
"Stay here." Hoseok leaned you against a wall and disappeared around the corner.
Why is he helping me?
Steadying yourself, you sneaked forward and halted when a large matte black hovercraft came into view.
Doesn't matter why. This is my ticket out of here. Just need to get rid of this guy first.
You picked up a small cement block from a pile by the wall and inched your way to Hoseok, who was checking his communication device by the side door.
He must think I'm completely drained not to cover his six with me. Dumbass.
When you were just a couple of feet away, you swung your makeshift weapon only for your arm to be stopped midair by a strong grip. "Wow, easy there!"
You let out a groan and turned to find Jungkook eyeing you cautiously. His face was pale and covered in sweat. There was a thin wound across the bridge of his nose where you'd headbutted him. He was clutching his side.
You opened your mouth to say something snarky. Instead, your stomach clenched, and you bent over, throwing up all over his heavy combat boots.
Oops.
"It's okay," he said softly, rubbing your back. "Hyung, let's get out of here."
Jungkook started leading you into the hovercraft, and you didn't resist. You were too exhausted to question what was happening, however ridiculous it all seemed. You allowed him to lay you down and pull your head onto his lap. His fingers found their way into your tangled hair. His other hand was still pressing at his side, and when it came off his black t-shirt, it was stained with blood.
"You're bleeding," you noted impassively.
"It's nothing, don't worry."
You wanted to tell him you didn't care, not after what he'd done. Then the bizarre scene from earlier came to mind. "There were two of you."
"Huh?"
"You were fighting yourself."
His expression was one of deep concern. "Your concussion must be really bad."
"No, no! I know what I saw. Two Jungkooks. Beating the crap out of each other."
The hovercraft took off in a swift upward motion, and another burning wave started creeping up your throat. You coughed.
"Rest now, sweetheart. We'll talk after."
Your eyelids grew heavy, and the hum of the vehicle lulled you to sleep.
