Chapter 19

You walked through the spacious lobby of OmniCorp, your hands trembling slightly as you adjusted your earpiece.
Okay, y/n, deep breaths.
The vast expanse of glass and steel
surrounded you, its clinical ambiance heightening your sense of isolation.
You took a deep breath, and stepped into the elevator. The doors slid shut with a soft thud, sealing you in the confined space.
You impatiently pressed the floor button and activated your earpiece. "I'm in. Everything's OK," your voice barely steady.
"Roger that," Namjoon immediately replied. "We're in position too."
"Same," crackled Yoongi's voice.
As the elevator ascended, you willed yourself to remain calm. Each floor that ticked by felt like an eternity.
Come on, come on.
When the doors finally opened on the fourth floor, you stepped out, taking a moment to steady yourself. You walked along the row of windows, the city lights casting a faint glow on white tiles beneath your feet.
Yoongi's voice came through. "Y/n, I can see you clearly. Coast is clear."
"Good," Namjoon interjected. "We're all set. Y/n, you have 8 minutes to disable the security protocols so we can slip inside unnoticed."
You quickened your pace, your heart hammering in your chest. "Got it."
"Stick to the plan," Namjoon continued. "We have about 45 minutes for Jin to get y/n and for Jungkook and me to get Taehyung. We'll meet at Sub-Level 1 by the loading docks. The maintenance truck leaves at 1 AM. We hide inside and get driven out."
Your mind raced as you approached the server room. The plan was tight, leaving no room for error. The thought of Taehyung, held captive, pushed you onward. The sweet smell of the air freshener filled your nostrils, mixing with your growing anxiety and making you dizzy.
As you neared the server room, a security guard stepped into your path, his expression stern. "What are you doing here? I need to see your security clearance."
Your stomach tightened. You fumbled for your forged credentials, trying to appear confident. "I was called in here for a check. Here's my authorization."
The guard suspiciously scrutinized the documents. "I wasn't told about any checks."
Your heart pounded in your ears. "Look, I'm just doing my job. If there's an issue, you can take it up with my supervisor."
The guard hesitated, then reluctantly stepped aside. You exhaled shakily and entered the server room.
"I'm in," you whispered into the earpiece. "But I was delayed."
"Understood," Namjoon replied, his voice tense. "Just get it done. We're running out of time."
As you worked, faint sounds from your earpiece reached your ears. Namjoon and Jin whispered strategies, while Jungkook's heavy breathing betrayed his anticipation. The soft clicks and beeps of the server room filled the background.
Then, a new voice cut through the static. "Jungkook, what the hell?"
You froze.
"Jimin?" Jungkook sounded taken off guard.
Your heart skipped a beat at the familiar name. You vaguely recalled a short, blond-haired soldier restraining civilians on the screens in this very server room when you were inside the game.
The sound of guns being drawn echoed in your ears.
"Don't move," Jimin shouted.
"Lower your weapon, please," Jungkook pleaded, his voice urgent through your earpiece.
"What the hell is going on?" Jimin demanded, his voice sharp with confusion. "Where have you been? You were chasing that hacker girl, and then you just disappeared. And now you're here with these guys?"
Your hands shook as you continued to work. You could hear the tension in the air, the danger of the situation escalating.
"Why are we wasting time?" Namjoon cut in, his voice cold and pragmatic. "It's three on one, let's just take him out."
You heard the click of a safety being disengaged.
"Please, no! He's my friend!" Jungkook's voice cracked with desperation. "Jimin, listen to me. You don't know the whole story. Lower your weapon, let's talk this out, please."
"Not a chance! They're terrorists. Why are you even with them?" Jimin retorted, his voice filled with anger and disbelief.
"I'll explain everything later. Right now, this is where I need to be. Please, trust me," Jungkook replied, his tone earnest.
"Trust you? After this?" Jimin sounded hurt and confused.
"Tick-tock, boys," Jin chimed in. You heard the sound of a bullet being pushed into the barrel of a gun.
You took in a shaky breath.
"Y/n, keep working," Yoongi's voice came through the earpiece, a steady reminder of your mission. "We need that security down."
Suddenly, a burst of noise exploded in your earpiece—rapid movement, shouts, the unmistakable sounds of a struggle—and then, silence. The line was dead.
"Guys? Can you hear me?" You whispered, but there was only silence. You were completely cut off.
"Jungkook?"
"Namjoon?"
"Jin?"
"Yoongi?"
"Anyone! Can you hear me!"
Nothing. The silence was deafening.
Oh my god.
Your breath hitched, and your vision blurred for a moment. You gripped the edge of the console, knuckles white, as you fought to control the rising tide of panic.
I need to focus. I need to finish disabling this damn thing.
You took a deep breath.
What if they're hurt? What if they're dead? What if Jungkook... No! Stop, y/n.
Shaking off the dark thoughts, you disabled the last security measure. You heart in your throat, as you stood there, unsure of what to do now.
Please be safe. Please be okay.
