Late Night
Nobody's POV
It was a rather cold spring night as Natsu trudged home, tired from the long mission he and Happy had just gotten back from. While the feline decided to go visit his beloved wife Carla, and yes, the two are happily married.
Five years ago Carla had finally accepted his fish causing the two to date and then two years ago Happy popped the question and she said yes. Despite being married though, Carla decided to stay with Wendy till she turned eighteen claiming there was no way she would leave the child (no matter how responsible she may be) until she was an adult.
Happy, being fine with that, decided to stay with Natsu and Lucy, who were married shortly before the two exceeds, until he learned that she was pregnant a few days ago. Knowing that he couldn't possibly live with himself if he didn't move in with his pregnant wife, along with some pestering from Lucy, Happy decided to move in with the girls. But, moving is a process so, for the time being he was still staying with the Dragneels.
It was almost past midnight when Natsu finally reached his door and surprisingly all the lights were on.
Was Lucy awake? The dragon slayer wondered, unlocking the door and stepping into the warm threshold, shutting the door quietly behind him.
"Lucy?" He called softly, not wanting to wake up the celestial mage should she be asleep.
No response.
Heading into the living room, Natsu was welcomed with the sight of his lovely wife slumped over on one side of their soft couch, sleeping soundly. Her head in the crook on her arm with her blonde locks scatter all about. In her lap lay an open book, one which Natsu assumed was used to keep her preoccupied while she presumably waited for him to return home.
His eyes softened and he let out a small chuckle.
"What a weirdo." He murmured, walking over and squatting down in front of her. Placing a hand on her shoulder, Natsu gently shook her.
"Hey Luce." He whispered softly. "Babe, wake up."
Lucy let out a tired moan and shifted away from Natsu, causing him to smile softly.
"Go away."
Natsu lightly chuckled. "Come on now, Luce, you need to wake up. If you sleep on the couch, you might catch a cold."
Lucy groaned but didn't wake.
The dragon slayer sighed. "You leave me no choice." Slipping his arms under her legs and back, Natsu carefully brought her to his chest and stood up. Being careful not to bump into anything on his way to the bedroom, Natsu attempted to turn the living room light off with his foot. In hindsight, using his elbow probably would have been a better idea as he nearly fell and heavily jostled his wife, successfully waking her but, you live and you learn, right?
"Natsu, sweetheart, what time is it?" Lucy asked sleepily, her eyes heavy as she looked up at her husband.
Natsu glanced at the clock as he passed the bathroom.
"12:20am." He replied softly. "Go back to sleep. I'm sorry for waking you."
Lucy slowly shook her head and gently placed a hand on his cheek, a soft smile on her lips.
"Don't worry about it. I'm just glad I got to see you tonight. I tried to stay up and welcome you home but, I guess I fell asleep." A light laugh, that warmed Natsu's heart as he set her on their bed, bubbled up her throat.
"How did the mission go?" She questioned as he laid down beside her and pulled the covers over the two of them.
Pulling Lucy to his chest and wrapping his arms around her waist, the dragon slayer yawned.
"It was good. Happy and I totally beat the monster's ass and I only destroyed half of the town."
"Hmmm. I suppose half is better than the whole thing but, Master is still going to be angry with you."
Natsu paled thinking of the short old man. "I'll just....avoid him as long as I can."
Lucy chuckled sleepily, snuggling into her husband's chest.
"Mmm, you're so warm."
Natsu's chest rumbled lightly as he chuckled. "I'm a fire dragon slayer, remember? What else would I be, cold? I'm not Freeze-for-brains."
No response. Looking down, the sakura-haired man realized his beloved wife had fallen asleep. A soft look came over his features. Bending over, he placed a sweet kiss on her forehead then wrapped his arms around her waist bringing her closer, if all possible.
"God, I love you. Thank you so much for coming into my life. You really are my celestial goddess, you know that? Always making me laugh with your weirdness. Always stunning me with your beauty and witts. Never failing to surprise me with your caring nature, always putting other people before yourself. And this is gonna sound a little weird but, I love your scent. The smell of vanilla is so addicting, especially if it's from you. Mavis, your scent calms me down. I swear, one whiff and no matter how tense I am, I'll always become relaxed." A soft laugh left the dragon slayer slips and he used one hand to gently stroke Lucy's hair. "You mean the world to me and I'll fight any and everything to keep you safe and happy. I can't wait to experience more adventures with you. I love you so much, Luce. I hope you have a wonderful night's sleep."
And with that, Natsu fell into a peaceful sleep, unaware that Lucy had woken up in the middle of his small speech and secretly smiling to herself. Turning towards him, she nuzzled into his chest, inhaling his own firewood and cinnamon scent.
"Mmm, I love you too, Natsu. My heroic dragon-slayer. I hope you have a wonderful night sleep as well." And with that, the celestial mage fell asleep once again, comforted by the spicy scent of her lover.
