thirty-five: my buddy pal friend
thirty-five: my buddy pal friend
The day of my birthday started like any other day, in fact I didn't really notice it was my birthday at first. I woke up to the sound of Liam moving about in the kitchen, pots and pans clanging followed by the occasional curse word that made me smile. Normally Niall would be fast asleep next to me, but he was working an early shift at the store today so that he could spend the afternoon with me. I move off the bed, figuring that I could at least go see what Liam was doing and maybe offer assistance with whatever it was.
"God dammit..." Liam is muttering, standing in front of the fridge with his hands on his hips and looking quite troubled. I quirk an eyebrow, folding my arms over my chest as I look at him.
"Need some help?" I ask, causing Liam to jump as he clearly hadn't heard me come into the kitchen.
"Jesus, H. I need to get you a fucking bell." Liam says, throwing a hand over his chest and earning a soft chuckle from me as I shake my head.
"We've been living with each other for nearly a year, Liam. You would think you'd be used to me by now." I tease, walking further into the kitchen and sitting down at the counter.
"Well normally you don't pull your ass out of bed unless it's well past noon." Liam grumbles, shutting the fridge rather forcibly.
"True, but you sounded like you were having troubled in here. Figured I'd offer some assistance. What are you even doing?" I ask him, noticing the several different things sitting on the kitchen island.
"I was trying to be a good friend and make you breakfast on your birthday, but we don't have any eggs cause someone who goes by the name of Harold used them yesterday to make his boyfriend breakfast." Liam continues to grumble, shaking his head a little as I sit quietly.
"I can go grab more." I offer for I didn't mind running to the grocery store. It would give me something else to focus on besides the all too familiar feeling in the pit of my stomach. My birthday wasn't a happy thing for me, it hadn't been for several years now, last year was just the icing on the cake.
"It's your birthday, H." Liam says, giving me a look that would've normally ended the conversation but I really felt like I needed to get out of the house, like I needed to be alone for a few.
"So? I can run to the store on my birthday. I'm only turning twenty-four, I don't think I'm quite to the age where I'm incapable of doing simple tasks."
"I'm not saying you're incapable, Niall just gave me specific instructions that you get the royal treatment until he gets off work." Liam says and I let out a laugh because dammit, I told Niall not to make a big deal out of my birthday.
"You don't have t-" I start only to have Liam interrupt me.
"Yes I do. H, you've been through so much this past year and we just want to make your birthday a happy thing. Let us spoil you. Let us celebrate." Liam says, the softest of smiles on his face now.
"It's just not something I want to celebrate, Liam. My birthday isn't exactly filled with the fondest of memories." I whisper, unable to maintain eye contact. My hands are already shaking, my throat dry as I try to block out any memory of last year.
"You're right, it's not... but you shouldn't let it always be that way. I know last year was awful and I'm not saying that in any way what she did to you was okay... but if it hadn't happened, you wouldn't have found your way here. You'd still be living in Manchester, kissing your dad's ass because everyone kept telling you that was what was expected of you. You'd still be with Rose more than likely, telling yourself that you loved her because that was also expected of you. You wouldn't have found yourself, you'd just... You wouldn't be Harry. But I guess that's just my opinion... You know me, always looking at the silver lining of things..." Liam says, trailing off and I finally look at my friend. He's biting down on his lip, looking beyond nervous, almost like he expected me to get angry at him or something which wasn't the case at all. He was right, if Rose hadn't cheated on me I wouldn't be here.
I would've never found Niall.
"Have I ever told you how much I appreciate you? I feel like I haven't and I really do, Li. You've helped me so much over this past year and I don't think I can ever repay you or thank you enough... You're my best friend. " I found myself asking, smiling a little when Liam smiles.
"Damn right I am, with all of your shit I've had to put up with. I mean Jesus, I was afraid I would go bald before you admitted you actually liked Niall." Liam says, a teasing tone to his voice now which earns a soft chuckle from me.
"I think I love him, Liam." I found myself saying, looking at my friend to gauge his reaction but all I got was an eye roll.
"Well no shit."

This was more a fluffer chapter. I'm in the mood to write fluff...
Merrrrrrr
QOTC: alright fam, this is another opinion thing on a direction this book can go but I'm not sure which... SO I'm thinking about doing a sequel, it's undecided. Basically this book is gonna be like sixty chapters? Maybe seventy? The sequel (if I did one) would be mpreg and would be in Niall's POV. Would you guys be interested in reading?
Dedication just goes to everyone cause I'm tired af (Its past one, Idk why I'm still awake. I got four hours of sleep last night)
