A Quarry For the Dead
I sat on the steps of my house, staring at the old quarry across the street. Dealth Quarry. People on the block say it's haunted by the ghosts of the children who died there over twenty years ago. The people say that if you stay the night down in the quarry, you will never see the light of day again. But I didn't believe it. I was going to prove them wrong.
Standing up and stretching, I went inside and waited for the sun to go down.
Once the sun was finally down, I grabbed my sleeping bag and a flashlight and made my way to the quarry. The quarry was pitch black, even though the sun only went down a few minutes ago. I turned on the flashlight and looked around the huge place. Yep, anyone could tell it was abandoned. There were spider webs and dust covering everything in sight.
I walked around for a bit, looking for a less-dusty spot to set up my sleeping bag. Which was hard, because everything was dusty. But I did find a spot that was a bit less dusty than everywhere else. So I sat my sleeping bag down in that spot. Hey look at that, perfect fit!
Propping my flashlight up to where it shined up towards the sky, I slowly fell asleep.
A few minutes of sleeping went by when a small crash woke me up. I sat up immediately to see my flashlight rolling away. Must have knocked it over in my sleep. Groaning, I crawled over to pick it up. And when I did, I swear I heard a childish giggle from behind me.
I picked up my flashlight and spun around to greet.......the empty air. Man, did I feel foolish. Rolling my eyes, I crawled back to my sleeping bag and laid down, propping the flashlight up again, but a foot or two away from where it was before. I rolled over, and instead of falling asleep I landed with a stone jabbing me in the hip. I shifted my position a bit to where it wasn't jabbing me anymore and fell back asleep.
Nothing else woke me that night, but in my dream, there were little kids running around me in circles, giggling like the giggle I heard earlier.
~De La Time Skip To Morning~
I woke up and sat up, stretching. Ah, what a great sleep! Besides the dream. The dream was oddly creepy. But atleast I was alive! Proved the paranoid bastards wrong!
It took me a while to process the pain in my sides. Lifting my shirt, I saw a stone entering through one side of my stomach and exiting the other. Yet, it still was not bleeding. I could tell that it had been bleeding. Dried blood ran down my side, leading to a dried pool of blood on my sleeping bag.
As my eyes closed for the last time, and I took my last breath, I looked up at the quarry's sign. The "L" in Dealth had fallen off, leaving the sign to read "Death Quarry." Such irony.
My eyes opened again, and this time I saw a whole bunch of children my age surrounding me. I saw my body lying on the ground; I was hovering a foot or two above it. The children around me smiled sweetly, all of them saying, "Welcome to your eternity. Welcome to Death Quarry."
(This story goes out to my little sister, Rissa, who has always been afraid of going to sleep on the dirt or stones and waking up with a rock stuck under her skin :3 My family is strange)
