Coral Snake's Chronicles: Chapter A: The RainWing Law.
It was always beautiful in the RainWing kingdom. Safe from wars, plentiful in fruits, the sun always seemed to favor the vast forest, shining on the lush green leaves, giving the dragons a bath in its warm, welcoming rays. It was no mistake that if it were not for Queen Coral Snake's smartly and wickedly planted laws, the Rainforest was the be the most disputed territory in all of the continent. That same queen wistfully sighed, her red scales shimmering and the gold lines that outlines her black stripes glittered in the sun they caught, she ran her curled talons along the golden letters of a scroll. The RainWing Law, it was tedious, learning all the rules, there were 10 in total and she had to painstakingly revise them if she wanted to be a good queen. Of course, all dragonets and dragons had to learn the laws but to Queen Coral Snake it had just seemed like stepping on thorns. She gave another sigh, a orange hue starting to glow along her frill and edges of her wings, she trailed her talons down the list, muttering softly to herself:
1. No fire in the forest.
2. No cutting down of trees.
3. No violence.
She let out a groan, she hated reading. She hated writing. She especially hated it when dragons corrected her.
"No, Princess Coral Snake, it's pronounced 'butterfly.'"
"No Princess Coral Snake, it's spelled 'Cap-y-bar-a.'"
"No Princess Coral Snake, I can NOT read a single thing on this line! It's as if you used your tail to write."
Her scales shimmered a deadly red. Her claws digging into the edges of the scroll, wrinkling the paper, she tossed the scroll across her room. How about 'Yes Coral Snake! You're right! Capybara is too hard to spell! We should change it to Capara instead. Much easier,' she fumed. She stomped her talons on the ground, her tail slicing through the air with a whip like 'crack'. There was a knock at her door. "WHAT?" She bellowed, picking up the scroll, she frowned. A good queen wouldn't yell at her subjects, She reminded herself, "Yes, come in," she repeated, more politely, making her scales a yellow color with some pink hints, she threw in some brown, stress, just to make whoever disturbed her feel a tiny bit bad about disturbing her.
'Oh no! I've disturbed my queen, this is so terrible of me, I should have kept whatever insignificant, worthless news I was going to say to MYSELF.' Queen Coral Snake dialogued the Rainwing's thoughts to herself with a mental grin.
Instead:
The RainWing opened the door slowly, narrowed his eyes at the brown ("Yessss!! Feel bad for me. RIGHT NOW.") and scoffed, he settled down, holding out a scroll. Queen Coral Snake bit back a furious howl of anger and the enchantment that rested plainly on her tongue, she snatched the scroll from them then shooed them away with a polite smile.
HOW DARE HE SCOFF AT HER? There should be a rule listed down that says 'DO NOT SCOFF AT YOUR QUEEN. THAT'S SUPER RUDE.' with 'Punishable by death' written in red, just so dragons would get the hint. She ripped open the scroll "Queen Council being held at Pyrite's Peak near sunrise." She read, she rolled her eyes. Oh great, there was no hiding that the other tribes still looked down on Rainwings, the whole debate was stupid and all it succeeded was rolling eyes and whispers in the end.
"Oh, the RainWing has an idea."
"What would you know about fighting? The only fight you have is deciding what to eat in the morning and what color you should be."
"Oh great, another worthless idea from another worthless RainWing from the worthless tribe."
Her yellow scales flared red as the thought of what the other queens might have said about her in their minds. Oh how she wished she could have mind reading... she looked at her reflection in the amulet that shone around her neck. Who said she couldn't? She was queen. Besides, what's one more spell? She tapped her claw at the necklace pendant thoughtfully, humming to herself as the words for her spell began to form in her mind.
She'll just ignore the cold creeping along her scales like she always has been doing.
